WFRP Ruleset for Fantasy Grounds II

By neilgfoster, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Just wanted to tell Neil thanks. He has done an excellent job in putting this together. This is very well done, highly functional, and you can even use it as just a character manager if you wanted to.

For those interested, you do have to enter the information manually initially (actions, conditions, etc) but this was done to protect copyright info and keep things like this available.

For my game, I began by entering in only the careers and actions that were being used. I have slowly added all the conditions, mutations, class special abilities, miscasts, wounds, diseases, melee actions, ranged actions, and am working through support actions currently.

I only do a few at a time to prevent burnout but I am quite happy with progress so far.

For those who may be new to fantasy grounds, as I was, make sure to download neils documentation as it explains where to place and which files to modify for his toolset.

Thanks, I'm glad people are getting some use out of it.

I am already planning the next release, which will focus on the new rules that will be introduced in Hero's Call. Also, I am looking at refactoring the layout of the character sheet in order to make it quicker and easier to use.

I haven't so much as touched this yet. But I am incredibly thankful for the time and effort you've put into this! I fortunately have a meat-space group, but this may change in the coming months.

But even if I NEVER use it, you've enabled others to experience the system. If you ever make your way to the foggy SF area, let me know and I'll buy you a pitcher.

For some reason when I add diseases to the character sheets, they aren't appearing. There doesn't appear to be a spot on the sheet for diseases anymore. Is this a bug or is something wrong with mine.

Thats a bug - I have fixed that problem and re-uploaded the ruleset to the website. Thanks for pointing that out.

It seems incredible, Neil! Is there a way to try it without buying Fantasy Grounds? I never actually got to play WHRP through the internet, so I'm doubtful about buying FG yet.

Yes. The latest free version of Fantasy Grounds supports 'demo campaigns' - full featured campaigns that are not saved and that only the GM can use. Download the lastest version of FG and then install the ruleset as normal. You should then be able to try the ruleset.

PM me if you need any help

Can we use this thread to ask for features to be added?

If can then I would like to ask that you add a second column to the difficulty section of the actions like you have for the recharge; different stances have different challenge values.

If we can't ask for things in this thread then- Keep up the good work! This is an excellent tool for those of us who are new to the system and are finding it a little daunting to keep a handle on everything.

Of course you can - I welcome the feedback!

I hadn't realised that different stances could also have different difficulty in addition to different recharge - I will add this in for the next version. The next version will also feature an action card dice pool generator - a single drag and drop and you will be able to create an entire dice pool for an action card :)

Ooooo, that sounds good.

Wait, how are you deal with the variable challenge actions? e.g. backstab?

Edit: Ah, I see you are adding a 'single die removal' feature, excellent!

If this is possible, I seem to be unable to do it. If not, it would be a nice feature.

Can we drag and drop a dice pool for a specific specialization for a skill. So for example, if I have a specialization in Hand Weapons and I have trained weapon skill, when I drag the Hand Weapons section, it would add both an expertise die and a fortune die.

Sure. The second tab of the skill sheet allows you to enter specialisations for that skill. I can easily add a dice pool generator for a specialisation - I will add that onto the list for the next release

While teaching a new player how to use the toolset, he asked if there was a way to have tooltips display when you hover the mouse over the different cards, counters, and dice. Are these features you could add as well? It would be nice if it was optional.

I can add tooltips, but not sure if I can make them optional - I will look into this and add them in if I can make it work.

OK, first official session played using the toolset happened yesterday. Need the ability to create an NPC on the fly including picture. I have a ton of pictures in the portraits folder for folks to choose from but I can't drag and drop them to an NPC window.

The only other issues seemed to be when a player created a character offline and opted to use a local character in the game, only the main tab seemed to work. I didn't have this problem for any of the characters I created locally on the same machine as my Full licensed computer.

Overall, the players really liked the ruleset. One player even commented that normally he doesn't like online play but with Fantasy Grounds and your ruleset, it almost felt like he was rolling dice.

Does anyone know how to change the size of the map windows. I've had the same map open up in different sized windows but don't know how to control what size it actually opens up. I know how to change the map within the window but not how to change the window itself.

I think how you do that is to hold down CTRL and then left click the border of the map window and drag. I could be misremembering, or perhaps that's specific to other rulesets like 4E, but I don't know why it would be?

Nabikasu is correct, hold down the CTRL key and drag with the left mouse button to resize a window - this is built in to how FG works.

Cd8dman - Glad to hear that your players enjoyed the ruleset despite the couple of issues. I will look into why a players local character didn't work property.

As for NPCs - You can add standard creature/npc stats to your library, including setting up a potrait for them in the library as well. You can then quickly drag and drop a npc to either the initiative window or a npcgroup window, after which you can then modify the npc as normal.

My example library includes an 'example' NPC, including how to set the NPC portrait.

Well, that is a nob question but: I went through your pdf but I could not find how to attach a picture to a newly created NPC.

Cheers

To allocate a picture to an NPC you need to use a token:

1) Put the picture in your campaign token folder: AppData/Fantasy Grounds II//Campaigns/<Your Campaign>/Tokens

2) In FG, open the token box

3) Drag and drop the token to the token control on the NPC sheet (The small round icon on the NPC sheet)

This will create a token for the NPC. You can then drag and drop the token from NPC to place it on an image or a map. Its a bit of a pain but its how FG works - I haven't found an easier way to do this yet.

Thanks for replying!

I am sorry you have to spend your time in answering these kind of questions :P

Hey Neil

I have a couple more questions, may be I can contact you by email?

I am looking to the "WFRP v3 - Library.mod" file. Once I activate it in FGII, I get the nice indexed library with a few examples on it (as stated in your pdf). I do not know how to add things to the library, add wounds, creatures etc (the video tutorial in the FGII regarding exporting npc web page is no longer available).

Is there an easy way to do it within the FGII software? or do I have to work on the *.xml files?

Cheers

Feel free to PM me and I will help as much as I can.

For now, you need to work with the *.xml files in order to build up a library, however I am looking at trying to make this easier in a future version.

Hey Neil

After extracting the xml files from your Library.mod and opening them with notepad, thanks to your included examples, the addition of creatures, wounds, actions etc is a piece of cake, only a bit time consuming.

Thanks man!

Welcome to those few of us with enough motivation to commit to many hours of mindless data entry. I am lucky enough to have a player willing to do the data entry for the equipment for me but everything else has been tedious. On the plus side, I entering everything by hand forces me to read each and every card thoroughly.

Yepesnopes:

I would highly recommend you install and use a program like Notepad ++

It makes reading, and editing, different segments of the xml file much easier.
