What's coming next? つ ◕◕ ༽つ Summon New Announcement ! つ ◕◕ ༽つ

By Odanan, in X-Wing

Well since since liked that, let me float this by y'all, if ya want to give a yay or nay. Much of this part was inspired by my days in Armada playing with squads. So ground war units can move around and shoot and score objectives and stuff, without getting in the way of the air war models and combat engine. Also super stat light so they don't take too much time to resolve.

Ground objects were represented by round (infantry and vehicles) or square (buildings) "pogs" about the size of a small base. The stats would be printed directly on the pog, and they could have two sides to be different units like ship tiles are.

Their attack was represented by a red number as usual of 2 or 3, but all ground units only score normal hits.* Defense was a static number of evades that you'd have to overwhelm, 0 for buildings, 1 for vehicles, 2 for infantry. Units and buildings just had a single number for health called 'endurance'. They still use normal range ruler, gaining an extra attack die at close, but an extra +1 to their defense at long. They resolve combat at the end of the activation phase, starting with the units of the player with initiative.

Infantry and vehicles can move, during the end of the combat phase within range one, starting with the units of the player with initiative. If they choose not to move they can instead 'achieve an objective' that they are touching.(Objectives being part of the new missions that would go with ground war.)

Nice models! I'll spread the word.

BTW: did you do the Black Ace's Modified TIE Interceptor? The TIE Avenger? The TIE Hunter? The Skipray Blastboat? The T-wing? The Chiss Clawcraft? The Toscan Fighter? (so many cool designs...) Where do I find all your models? Do you have a virtual store or something?

At the moment regarding the empire, what I’m only has done is the Emperor Shuttle from ep III, and now I’m preparing the TIE Scimitar, the other one who’s on my agenda is the Skipray, the others ones are not now in my priorities, I also have the howlrunner.

Now I’m quite focused on the YT series preparing also several Addons and accesories, to customize freighters, there are some others free designs I had made...

here are som more examples:

I believe it's the starships and speeders sourcebook from the RPGs but I don't have that one so I can't confirm

Come on FFG AMG, I'm really needing a plastic crack fix right now... would you do a big announcement of the next wave this week, including not only new PT and ST ships, but also those leaked Squadron packs? Throw in some Epic release (Consular-class?) and we will get the Christmas we deserve need.

They have had quite a bit of time to get it straightened out as to what we should expect as far as the leaked and hinted at products and unofficially announced products.

X-wing doesn't have any remaining products, Legion has the officially announced Republic and Separatists Specialists and the available for pre-order but not announced Lando and Kallus expansions, Armada has four unofficially announced Clone Wars era expansions.

I'd think they'd be a bit eager to let us know whether stuff in the pipeline can be expected. They are changing my perception regarding Epic and proper Clone Wars Epic ships would go a lot further.

X-wing has 3 unofficially announced expansions. Also, in the Adepticon 2020 stream, Max mentioned that two of the upcoming aces packs would be Rebels and Imperials (and hinted about a a potential FO pack).

How do the Armada folks find out about their expansions pre-announcement? For X-wing, Lion Rampart Imports lists X-wing releases presumably as soon as they are informed that they will exist, as has been doing so for several waves now. They have Pheonix Cell (Rebel), Skystrike Academy (Imperial), and Fugitives and Collaborators (FO or Scum, maybe). Does Armada do the same, or did the developers actually say "we have 4 expansions coming down the pipe"?

The "unofficially announced" Armada expansion was an image of four ships in an FFG stream. This is from an "official" source and spoke of in stream I think but there has been no front page of the site announcement article and no pre-order availability.

Lando and Kallus are up for pre-order on the Asmodee site but have not gotten official announcement articles. The specialists received proper announcement. They are up for pre-order both with FFG and on the Asmodee site. It is reasonable to presume the specialists are held up by Covid-19 related shipping issues since the Anakin and Maul expansions have made it to market.

I was not considering the Lion Ramparts listings as unofficial announcement but probably should do so going forward.

I would think they'd very much want to tell us about all of that sooner rather than later.

I am particularly interested in the Armada items as I feel in a bit of limbo with regards the initial release of Clone Wars factions. Without those additional expansions I'm not sure I care to keep the initial releases. I had a great deal of difficulty justifying the purchase even only needing to answer to myself and having a healthy budget for such things. There isn't enough variety without the teased expansions.

Did Lion Rampart get it right for previous leaks?

EDIT: I believe it did for the last wave.

So far, yes. I've only known about this "unofficial announcement" for the last 2.5 waves, but they have had them correct for them. The only one that we didn't know what it was, was "the Continental" which ended up being Heralds of Hope.

Going into December with no previewed but unreleased product for X-Wing is a massive failure. Sure we won't be able to buy the new stuff for a while but excitement for future releases can help drive sales of what is already out there.

This. ^

Specially in these uncertain times of moving X-Wing to AMG. We need some big announcement to assure us costumers that this game is not dying.

This game is not dying. It is one of FFG's best selling lines. It would be foolish and make poor business sense to kill the game. While it may be still up in the air whether the transition will be good in design and development sense, it certainly makes sense to move all of your miniatures games into the same house especially when all of those IP's are owned by the same company: Disney.

With that said, I do still want a new announcement for a myriad of reasons. Certainly, I want to see them because content is content and because the original factions could use some new life, but I definitely still want the announcement for consumer confidence, as well. As much as I believe that X-wing is not dying, a new release announcement would give me confidence that the transition is going well. I think we all would like to see that.

I really hope to get the rebel, imperial and scum expansions before the new AMG era begins. If I dont like where the game heads to, at least it will have that last relevant content.

Going to echo @5050Saint . There's no reason to go full falling sky about no news and thinking a game is dying because of it. News would be nice, but I don't need it right away. Come back to me after three months of no news in corona-verse and maybe I'll have raised an eyebrow. Besides, I have SO much new stuff to go through I'll be busy for a lot longer than that.

Still betting on CWEpic though. Daddy wants that Consular class!

corona class epic ship....

Without any news about what is on the horizon the game may not be dead in point of fact but it will be hampered from growing and will be barely doing much more than treading water. It is death in retrospect, ex post facto . No news about what is coming is functionally little different than cancelled. They really need to let us know what's on the horizon.

I would remember if I were you all that FFG has a long, storied history of killing games even when they are profitable. When you're owned by Asmodee, it's not about whether a game is profitable, it's about the ratio of revenue to overhead. A game line is just another investment to them. If a different investment would earn more, it doesn't matter that you can earn money with said game line.

Sorry to say this but a game line is always an investment, and the industry typically operates on unsustainable margins. People need to have business sense and it's not evil. We can't expect all game designers to operate out of the goodness of their hearts or we'll never have professional game designers, only hobbyists. As a hobby game designer I can tell you that it doesn't really give you the time needed to stay ahead. The future of tabletop gaming depends on gaming companies making a profit, and there have been a lot of alarming reports recently that point in the opposite direction.

A lot of people will point and say "but XYZ company can do it!" Sure, but XYZ company is going to be bankrupt in a year.

There are a lot of things I dislike about Asmodee. However, the need for things to make business sense in order to stay alive isn't one of them. I think they make bad business calls in terms of what does and doesn't justify its cost, but at the end of the day profitability isn't negotiable.

This pretty much isn't true. They kill games that sell but something selling does not mean that it's profitable by any stretch. It has to sell in certain quantities and amortize design/development costs, which are the highest costs involved.

Again I don't think this is true either. People like to point to the Imperial Assault > Legion switch but I don't think that lives up to it. Imperial Assault's days were numbered. Skirmish had been a competitive failure since wave 1, and the business model of good-value boxes but stupidly overpriced figure packs wasn't good for players or retail stores. Campaign was still a great game, but there wasn't much more to say in that range that didn't add unnecessary complexity to the game. Besides, though it's a great game its age definitely shows at this point, and if they were to redo it it would probably look a bit different.

Legion was never intended as a replacement for IA. It's a totally different game, and even a different type of game. IA is more a board game than a minis game and Legion is quite firmly a minis game. I don't think a revisit of IA in the future is out of the question; I actually consider it somewhat likely to happen, and it could yet be FFG rather than AMG that does it.

Yes they are right for French and English releases, and for French releases they are more accurate than FFG France

French version have a few troubles : some expansions are not yet released (Slave1 scum, Tie/Ln Expansion, Tie/SF, VT49, Rebel Millenium Falcon, Tie V1, TieX1, Ghost...) and Lion Provide us some release dates for new waves ship and conformations that new waves ship will be released in France

I ascertain one of the biggest mishandlings of this crossover is the lack of certainty. If AMG and by extension Asmodee wanted to inspire confidence they should have said "Okay, here's a loose roadmap for releases" No specifics, just "This is when we expect to announce this wave, and this is when it will be released" etc and at least reveal the next products for us to look forward to.

Instead there's a lot of people talking about the game dying or being dead, despite no evidence to support that, but nothing to suggest otherwise. This dripfeed of information from AMG is not enough and, in my humble opinion, they should be embarrassed that they've all (FFG, AMG and Asmodee) botched the handover with having NOTHING to show. A very strong opinion, but one can not doubt alot of this negativity around the crossover wouldn't have been as bad without more actual tenable information. Interviews are promises made of glass, transparent, nothing much to see, and easily broken. Actually coming out and saying "Here's the new wave, and check out the article over at AMG!" would have inspired a feeling of passing the torch.
