3D printed Talisman miniatures/Terrain

By Leavon, in Talisman

Hey Leavon, sorry if I came across as saying that it's an either or thing - I'd love you to do both, and totally get why you can't do the characters right now. I just took objection to magicrealm telling you not to work on the miniatures and then insulting me when I had a different opinion. Keep at it, I'm loving seeing all the updates!

Not at all Cookierobber, it's all cool.

And speaking of updates, here's WIP shot of the chapel, hopefully gonna start on the stone work and tiling tonight. The model will ship with 3 cap stones, for the different editions.

Fantastic and many more superlatives.

Great work!

i didnt knew about Mephisto Models, so i thought you mean the Event Card. if i dont know about These models, nearly noone knows it. how many times is Talisman sold ? that many People like to have the board miniatures, if they knew about it. noboidy knows about Mephisto characters. there are many too many characters in Talisman already, and, as is aid, dexscent2 offers another hundred of character models but NOONE nobody except some Forum cryers want more character models, another ten or twenty to the 200 that exist. how many board miniatures excist ? None ? not one ? SO WHAT IS THE PRIORITY ? i hate These idiotic Forum runners with their idiotic unrealistic egoistic destructive mimimi.

why i am against character and Monster modelsbeside the fact that a hundred already exist, is because then the work on the board miniatures will be broken in an half-made state. WE HAVE ENOUGH HALF MADE THINGS AT FFG !! i the board miniatures should be realy finished before other things come. if he starts on miniatures the board will never be finished. the result is one more lost Project.

Btw i hope leavon has the permission from ffg to do this work, otherwise this is a violation of Copyright and can be charged with a Penalty from ffg anytime. one more reason to hurry up with the board miniatures.

We've all moved on from this, magicrealm. You should too.

I just recently found this magnificent gem! I am planning to order but I am from the Philippines, do you ship internationally? I am planning to buy today, would you give me a discount coupon if I buy all the talisman 3D prints in one order?

Thanks!

Is the crown of command hollow? I had an idea of cutting the very top off, stringing an LED through it to turn on and off for day and night.

Currently the Crown of Command has a solid bottom and support structure inside, it could be made hollow but I'm not sure where you would want to put the LED? Inside the crown? What may be possible is printing the crown separately in a transparent material, an LED and watch battery could be placed inside that.

The Lighthouse of Command...

"ooooooh

I zee flashing crowns."

(said in an outrageous old woman french accent)

:)

Talistone arrived and is super.

I know what I'll be doing tomorrow.

Thanks Leavon

Quick update, here's a test print of the Chapel, it hasn't printed quite correctly, it's missed 5mm off the bottom somehow but the variant cap stones are working well and I'm really pleased with the rose window.. Anyway the printer broke straight after that print :( , I've got truly fed up of fixing it now, particularly when I have orders qued up so new printer is on the way.....Shiny. The D6 will then be relegated to backup duties and making bits of replica movie props to satiate my geeky needs.

So all being well I should be taking delivery of the Cubicon Style in the next couple of days and production will be resumed....

I would like to know how 3d design works. Do you scan the picture and the pc makes a 3d printable file out of it or do you draw every line manually ?

you should think about offering this work at games workshop in march, when they have the license of talisman. this could lead to continue the talisman boardgame at gw and to give you the job to create models, which then will be printed in a mass scale. If there is no input from the community to gw, i doubt they will continue talisman in the next years.

I wish it were as simple as scanning in a drawing. Everything is sculpted by hand, like traditional clay sculpture but on the computer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIw2IMFHmHI

Then software called a "Slicer" slices the sculpt into layers which are really paths for the 3D printer to follow.

I imagine GW already have plenty of sculptors to do this sort of work. My main income is creating characters for PS4 games and I'm gonna be busy with that until May, so I'm kind of happy with this at the level it is for the moment.

i wouldnt be so sure that gw has plenty of scculptors to do this work. they have plenty of conventional sculptors, but i think the way you do this with the Computer is very rare. i have never seen those results before. the result differs in Detail and in the model itself. The City and Village cant be done by conventional scuplting in one piece.

it is just an idea to say Hello to Games Workshop, nobody knows what avalanche you may start. You should be curious.

You'd be surprised, the majority of miniatures are digitally sculpted these days, more detail, quicker and easier to itterate design. I taught digital sculpting at university for 3 years and a couple of the students were traditional mini sculptors who wanted to learn Zbrush because the industry was moving towards digital.

This is one of the GW guys:

I'm not sure I want to put my head above the parapets, there's a very good chance that they'll tell me to cease and desist.

Yes i am surprised about this. Especially because the results go to opposite direction. i do not like Age of Sigmar and i am very angry they deleted the bretonians. Demons looking like angels, it all goes to hell, everywhere. Classic Fantasy as it was in the 80s was made from historic archetypes that came from all Ages, back to ancient greece and egypt. they had the power of underconscious Forces as the ancient wise dealed with them. nowadays it is just crazy with no other meaniong than mental illness. they are so dep into their dark rituals, that they cannot do anything else.

Leavon...I have not met you and I know I don't like you. Not at all. I have to have this stuff. God, I hate you.

All that aside, I jest...stuff looks great! I do not jest about purchasing it though... Did I mention I don't like you? :D

Heheh, I was a little worried when I started reading that post :-). Glad you like the work!(phew!)

Quick update, the Chapel is finished and test prints and tweaks have been successful, so it should be up for sale tonight and I'll be making a long awaited bundle available. The new printer is producing great results and I also got the D6 working again so I've currently got double the production capactity, until one of them breaks.....

Heye hey great news about the Chapel, it will really finish off and balance out the board. Show me down for one.

You mention about asking people what they would like next.

Well heres my two penneth worth for what its worth.

I would love a Graveyard but this could make that part of the board a bit top heavy with scenery.

So perhaps in the interest of balance an Oasis would be nice though I'm not sure if you can do things like palm trees with your whizzbox and there would have to be space to place adventure cards and piles of loot when the Raiders strike

Therefore the 3 remaining middle region corners perhaps could be next . Warlocks Cave and Temple shouldn't be a problem to a chap of your calibre but could you do the trees for the Cursed glade?

Anyway thats my lil ol imput

:)

Will do Kate! That's a nice idea to do the middle region corners, I was gonna do the Temple next so that fits perfectly with that plan. The forest could be tricky but I think there's a way to do it.....

So the 4th corner of the outer region is now complete and The Chapel is for sale at the Spare Oom store https://spareoomstudio.co.uk/online-store .

It comes with 3 variant caps stones, vanilla, a cross and a trident (just in case you worship Neptune) so you can tailor the chapel to your favourite edition of Talisman.

Leavon,

All these sculpts are pretty amazing. Thanks for doing this, hope to make a purchase from you at some point.

It reminded me a little bit of a custom sculpted Talisman Board I saw on YouTube. Well I did a search and found the video!

I do suspect that Talisman Island has seen it! But if you haven't check it out, it is really cool!

I hope not only you, Leavon, but all the Talisman finds out there find some additional inspiration as they incorporate your pieces into their Talisman Games.

The YouTube Blurb is as follows:

I built a X2 size 3d game board for playing the game Talisman. I've enjoyed the game for several years and had a bunch of stuff from my Dungeons & Dragons daze laying around. I also had to get a few specific things to compleat it. Hope you enjoy.

As usual brilliant

Ordered the last 3 to bring me back up to date, now only to paint them....

But yes if your are taking suggestions or ideas to brain storm, then The Warlocks Cave would be really really really great if it somehow incorporated a slot for the Quest Reward Cards to sit in - like a business card holder sort of look, rather then flat on the board, raised and maybe a small angle so cards lay back on it, it could be the back side of the cave facing in towards the valley of fire. Sightly wider to cover sleeves if used (i use them).

Im just saying... you know... it may be great...
