MacrossVF1s corner of paint and plasticard

By MacrossVF1, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

I've had time to paint up another of my own ships, this time N'dru Suhlak's Z-95. My aim was to make the nose have a really smooth transition from dark red to bright red. The studio photos unfortunately dull the effect a bit but I feel it was a good effort anyway, especially considering I only spent three evenings painting the ship.

On the fire spray how did you to the blaster burn marks that were spot on (Circle grey with carbon black scoring)?

That's my fave N'Dru so far!

I can easily do a small tutorial on the subject it if you want me to.

Would love it!

Please

That firespray is where it's at!

So I've been commissioned to scratch build a Delta Class JV-7 Escort Shuttle. As is my way I will try to update this thread with my progress, though I don't have much to show yet. First order of business has been magnetizing the lower wings so that they can be removed for easier transportation.

Not much of an update today but most of the lower hull is done.

Forgot to update yesterday though I didn't have much interesting to show. Mostly using lots of milliput and later filing it down again. I did manage to start on the upper hull however.

Really cool how you got the texture on the back there. That's interesting.

Texture on the back? That's actually the front and I used something called Board and Batten (Ribbed metal siding) for the texture. Useful stuff, and something I often use for detailing.

Oooooh, it's looking pretty sweet! :)

The gunpods at the tip of each wing was something I dreaded going into this build. Round and aerodynamic, it's a horrible shape to scratchbuild using plasticard. Instead I dug deep into my stash of old bits and came up with a very old plastic 40k plasma gun which had the approximate shape of a gunpod. I had to remove lots of details and fill in every nook and crevice but it's starting to look quite good. This will later serve as a master for a simple mould I'm making.

I've also started on the cockpit/nose of the ship though this has proven to be more complex than I anticipated. There are a lot of angles to take into consideration, which makes it almost impossible to just measure and cut.

I was curious about the gunpods; a clever solution!

With the exception of details, the cockpit is now finished, and with that most of the major parts are done. The rear turret, the gunpods and lots of details are up next.

Looking forward to seeing this all come together as I'm not familiar with the ship.

Early update today as I won't have time to do it later. Real life has been kicking my *** lately, dragging my attention away from the building process. Anyway I've started detailing the upper hull though it isn't very visible in this picture.

You just made me realise that I forgot to upload a picture of the ship when I started this build. Let's rectify that shall we?

Ohhh! I remember shooting those down now! Good, this will be exciting. Can't wait to see the final result.

The first gunpod has been moulded and equipped with a barrel for the cannon. I'm not completely happy with the barrel, it's a bit too thick, however I've been unable to find something better. More importantly, this will be sturdy and that sometimes has to take priority over aesthetics.

This is coming together beautifully! Also, congrats on nailing the trickiest bit! (Wing chamfers & gunpods.)

This is the thread I've been waiting for.

I've joined the upper and lower hull together and the detailing is almost finished on both parts. In addition, the top wing has been glued into place. I might actually be finished with the ship before next week.

Finished the rear turret today though I suspect it is somewhat crocked.

Wow, you manage really fine detail!

And it is done! The last picture, the comparison shot with a Lambda, unfortunately became quite blurry but it will have to suffice.
