Somewhat-OT: That new "Rebels" TV series is looking so AWFUL it pains me to think we'll be getting ships from it

By xanderf, in X-Wing

This is just...GAH...*terrrible*

...I mean, the mind-boggling level of incompetence of the stormtroopers is just beyond words. And nearly worse is the comically detached attitude of the main character - he's being shot at and has all the emotional involvement in his own LIFE as someone playing a video game...

It's really...grating.

That looks awesome, what are you on about?

Oh, I dunno, maybe having any random non-Jedi main character from the series able to take out an entire platoon of Storm Troopers without breaking a sweat or even being mildly inconvenienced by it.

Unless the series starts with a big reveal that all Storm Troopers are actually B1 Battle Droids underneath their helmets or something...this just makes no **** sense.

I'm pretty excited about the show, it'll be nice to have something less Jedi-centric than CW (as enjoyable as that was), and the crew/premise runs parallel to the concept of so many of the SW tabletop RP games I have run.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess your not tuning in to the premiere this October?

I'm still waiting for the Empire to figure out what a buttstock is.

But that's part of the problem - watching this short, in a vacuum, would you think at all "oh, these are just normal people in rebellion against the Empire and not plot-device-powerful Jedi Knights?"

Good grief, no! Zeb is bouncing around, here, more than Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, Anakin, Yoda, etc EVER did in the prequel movies. He's dispatching Storm Troopers faster than Mace Windu can take out B1 battle droids! He's smarming out quips smoother than Han Solo at a Sabacc table...the whole thing is just so comically overdone, it removes all sense of drama/threat/risk from the story.

It's a pretty big step down from the 'Clone Wars' series, and that's...disappointing, as even that series tended to 'play it safe' a bit more than it could have.

WTF is with the hate? Sure the troopers were a little incompetent, but it sounds like OP doesn't know anything at all about Zeb.

Lemme' tell you 'bout Zeb. Zeb used to be a god **** Royal Honor Guard in his home world. Now he's not for reasons that escape me- but he's literally one of the best users of the weapon he has on his planet. He's strong, fast, and it's all muscle memory to him, taking out infantry comprised of Imperial Mooks.

A) It's a cartoon

B) The only thing Storm Troopers have ever been able to hit accurately is the tracks of a sand crawler.

C) It's a cartoon

It looks really fun, and the fact that it's a new Star Wars thing set in the decent era is brilliant!

Have you seen the this one?

Wow, that was really fun to watch! Also, Ghost confirmed to have 4K turn!

See my post. Also, it's not a step down at all. Last I checked, people hated clone wars because it was set in the prequel era.

Now we have something that's not and we're still b*tching.

Chill out dude. Sit back, learn to laugh and enjoy the show, because that's what Rebels is for. Enjoying the show. How is that so hard to understand?

The E-11 Blaster Rifle actually has one. You know that little piece at the bottom? doubles as a funky foregrip and can fold back as a stock. Pretty ingenious actually. But they're not using it because they figure they're up against... Well, nobodies.

They're wrong.

I... disagree. It looks fun, in the vein of A New Hope. Good to see Stormtroopers back at their normal level of efficiency. Expect the threat from when Kallus and the Inquisitor are around, not just the mooks.

And The Clone Wars played it safe??? Yeah, I don't think this show is for you.

1 and 3 are poor excuses considering how awesome Cowboy Beebop is. I hope your standards on other things in your life are not as low as when you are speaking about animated shows.

Erm. its really effing slow. No feel of action at all. too much hurdy durdy humor that isnt even funny.

A super cool gang of rag tag awesome heroes fight baddies from their spaceship. Who thinks that's bad?

People who don't like Firefly, apparently.

Pacing is all wrong. No sense of tension or danger either.

Take the map, find the supreme leader, and give her the gift.

If the bad guys are absolutely no threat then whats the point?

Mal and crew were awesome because they were the underdogs and had to be smart... after watching the clips I wonder how this ragtag crew havent conquered the galaxy.

Isn't Rebels a cartoon for kids? I mean... should an adult be upset about a cartoon for kids?

according to lucas it is all for kids... should kids be watching such extreme levels of violence?

In a logical world... But, this is a star wars forum.

Wait 'til they run into Kalus and The Inquisitor.

It's really...grating.

Next thing you know teddy bears with sticks will be able to beat Storm troopers

Both of those shorts were amazing. Really excited for this show.

Anybody knocking this show (before it's even come out, I might add), needs to have their head examined. I've been waiting for a Galactic Civic War era TV show for 20+ years. The best parts of Clone Wars were the lightsaber duels and the space battles. I imagine Rebels will follow suit.

Guys, we push little plastic YTs and TIEs around for fun, how are those two shorts not awesome?

And p.s. it's got everything; evades, heavy laser cannons, K-turns, even a console fire critical hit, haha.

You forgot the rocks... duh.

DAT!

Agree with everything here.

Also seriously yes. This ship is so perfect for XWMG. Also.

Phantom

When this ship is in play, The Ghost cannot use its rear firing arc.

or something.

Show looks worse every time I watch another part of it on YouTube. I completely agree with the OP. Fair enough, make it a kids show, but don't make it stupid.

I would like to see the Ghost and Gonzanties ships in X-WING.

Heck yeah bring 'em on in.

:)
