Somewhat-OT: That new "Rebels" TV series is looking so AWFUL it pains me to think we'll be getting ships from it

By xanderf, in X-Wing

Has anyone in this thread considered the thought that maybe they were intentionally showing the fun, exciting bits of the show to potential viewers and keeping the dark, serious twists for the actual show so as not to spoil things?

Trailers, clips, etc are hand selected out of the rest of the show for a specific purpose: marketing. It has been stated this is to appeal to a somewhat younger audience than The Clone Wars did. The clips, trailers, etc reflect that decision.

Just because this is all we have seen of the series so far does not mean that we will not get those Star Wars type twists in plot: someone is someone's long lost cousin turned Imperial Commander with a robot eyeball (that they got from that battle where they were presumed dead) and now they are hunting the good guys. Or something like that.

I'm happy there will be more Star Wars content at all in the form of TV/Movies, cuz back in 2005 after I saw Ep3 I was like well crap, that's it. No more Star Wars films. Now I don't have to think that. Thanks Disney!

The writers even said it wont always be a happy ending. Plus the cute stuff is shown for their young target audience

, but by the time ROTJ came around they already had established Chewbaca as a very good mechanic, and his bowcaster was hardly primitive either, so they decided on another primitive race.

Which is idiotic for them to have assumed that since wookies were kidnapped from their home and trained to use modern tools in order to make them more useful as slaves, and since one of them escaped and turned out to be pretty decent at it, that therefore it had to be that the rest of the species still living in their native jungles were obviously just as advanced.

Agreed. It isn't Star Wars without somewhat dark plot twists.

I say never trust a Wookie. Lucas himself claimed they were vegetarian but i think we all remember Chewie getting caught in a net because of a hunk of meat....Or maybe that should just be never believe George Lucas

Also, about fuel leaks.

Yyyeeeeeaaaahhhh.

It's there.

The team has a good pedigree. I believe it will be good. I think the promos are just aimed at the younger side of the audience, but if you've seen Young Justice than you know what this team is capable of in terms of setting a darker, more serious tone.

I was watching Brave on Disney and a commercial for Rebels came on announcing there will be a Star Wars Rebels movie coming on October 3rd on the Disney XD channel. It's the same thing they did for The Clone Wars series except for being on TV instead of theaters.

Thank god. That had no reason to be in theaters.

I saw it. Honestly thought it was F*CKING AWESOME.

Wasn't the best movie ever, but it was a lot of fun as a Dad to take my kids to see a Star Wars movie at a theater. Something about the big screen that fires the imagination.

Apart from the fact that in the OT they let them escape, it's not really an argument, even children as target audience aren't an argument. Yes Stormtroopers didn't hit and sometimes acted stupid but that's how all movies work, the good guys can't be shot or the movie would've ended. In the movies there are tools to still maintain an environment of danger, like the beginning on the Tantive, the Jawas and Lukes Uncle and Aunt who were killed, that the heroes have to run away all the time, most fighters being killed on the attack on the Death Star.

What do we see here? The Empire is a mere school bully, people broke laws that are pretty normal laws and the heroes embarass the Empire. There is no environment of danger or opression, it's very badly written.. like the clone wars was. It's annoying to have another show like that, thre was not one tv show of Star Wars that wasn't aimed at kids and of course it's aimed at kids, because they have no experience and you don't need good writing to please them, they consume everything regardless if it's good or bad. That's also why the target audience is no argument, it's a sore excuse for the bad quality. That doesn't mean it can't get better and some here wrote, that it will evolve but the point is, that it seems (we didn't had a full episode until not) they aren't capable of a high quality tv show from the start. The guys from Avatar do a way better job, the first trailer for the show was exceptional and officially it has the same target audience (in reality, target audiences are pretty obsolete with so many people watching these shows).

Once it gets to that darker edge, let me know. As in the beginning I'll skip by the slapstick every storm trooper is comically easy to beat up at all times and their air of menace is simply on par to a bad hair day, or stepping in dog poo. They can target it to kids, but doesn't mean it can't be a bit edgy these days, cartoons are hardly just for kids these days.

What's better than discussing the same sore subject in one thread? Discussing the same sore subject in two threads!

Only two threads? Clearly we need more.
