You are in fact that one guy OP.
And lo, a great "meh" resounded throughout the land...
Apropos comments on the value of the Scum and Villainy starter.
The S&V starter box is a great deal. For $40 you are getting three $15 ships (all at MSRP of course), and the cards to convert 2 other ships. The contents of this box are very good, and introduce a lot of new things to those ships that you will want to try. I can't say more.
Apropos comments on different modules, one X-Wing and one S&V so you dont *HAVE* to play against what you dont want to.
Warmachine and Hordes are two modules of the same system. Go to any LGS on a Warmachine night. Half the people there are playing with Hordes armies. This would be exactly the same. With the game expanding, in time, people will not be carrying their entire collections with them. They will carry one faction, or one list they want to run. So you will run into the situation where someone shows up to XWing/S&V night with only Scum models.
Regarding comments about the cost of keeping up with the releases
The cost will not increase. Previously, we had four release expansions. Wave 6 will be four releases: StarViper, Scyk, IG-2000, and S&V. Thats 2 small and 2 large boxes, exactly like wave 2. In the future, they will not be having more than 4 releases per wave. One rebel, one Empire and one or two S&V until they are fully caught up. From their I see three ship releases. Continued collection will remain at the same cost.
S&V instead of Imperial huge ship and Advanced tweaks.
Well the Team Covenant interview eluded to "Have faith Advanced fans." That means they are working on something. As for not releasing a huge Imperial ship at Gencon, the more I think about it, the more I realize that releases at Gencon were not meant to just give previews of whats to come, but to generate buzz. Everyone knows a huge Imperial ship is coming (it is.) Not that many people realized S&V were. That was big news. So was Armada and Descent: Star Wars.
So last weekend I was working my arse off to complete a job thanks to a pipeline screw up (Canada, I blame you). Come back from that to find out the super mega awesome reveal from Friday at GenCon was… pirates?
I utterly disagree with everything you typed out, except that part about Canada. If it was not for RUSH and cool weather, they would be a eye sore. I mean they just stay up there to themselves and they are all healthy and happy... screw them!
Lol in the words of the late Robin Williams, "Canada is a like a really nice apartment over a meth lab." ![]()
But ya, we don't like the pipe lines either.
True, not a fan of the pipe lines. But I meant "pipe line" as in process, or chain of communication.
These Guys are pretty cheap and their postage is normally very cheap
This weekend they had a 10% off sale too, which they do almost every weekend. I ordered from them on Sunday and it's shown up today.
Just look how much their transport is!
Cheers for that, i may use them for things my local store just wont have in for months.
Well when you're up in notts for WW if you want a friendly game im probably free that weekend and can take some ships and a mat to the trip!?

I don't have a FLGS or a local x-wing community, i tried to see if a local TT club played x-wing this week, but they all play 40k which i am totally out of now.
They'll come around, everyone does.
Unless GW does something drastic in the next few years the companies done for, they need management with a clue frankly the current board is driving straight at a cliff.
Amen to that.
I jumped ship from GW for many reasons in the mid noughties but one of them was the really 'good for business/toss for the gamer' decisions being made to appease shareholders.
So your issue with the 3rd faction is that it doesn't adhere to your view of star wars. You don't want to play games against Scum faction because you want to play X-Wing vs Tie fighter?
Ok, that's fine. But there's no practical way what your saying could work and be any different to adding a 3rd faction expansion.
You would still have opponents saying "I would like to use the Scum module" and you would still have to refuse.
Not to mention the absolute cluster fudge trying to organise tournaments would bring. Would you expect people to run one x-wing vs tie tournaments? and then various different ones with different modules plugged in?
It's impractical, and it's not catering to a specific person, you still get all the ships you like, and I get the ones I like.
Game design about ground combat aside, I'm looking forward to Star Wars: Descent it appeals to me as I don't have the imagination for RPG's without miniature.
You make it sound like "Such-and-such LGS is having an X-Wing event @ 11:30 on February 30th" would be difficult to organize, or for people to wrap their minds around. If people want to play X-Wing, that's what you do. If people want to play the Scum and Villainy module, you just advertise for that. Or you just run Star Wars: Miniatures events, and people can bring everything they own. Seems pretty simple to me.
Well, yes and no.
Advertizing them would be easy, but LGS would likely not want to do it. Because all-commer tournaments means more people will show up than tournaments which limit the amount of lists that can be taken. And LGS want people to show up, because more people in the store means more people ready to make impulse buys. And if someone sees a ship he doesn't own at the tournament perform something awesome, that person is more likely to go "wow, I have got to get me one of those" and go buy one.
So most stores would run events with all the modules. More customers, more stuff to show off to said customers and more happy players ready to become customers once more.
Saturday night in the worlds oldest Pubbe playing x-wing. Living the dream.
Seriously, pm me nearer the time. Its about a couple of miles down the road from me so if im in town its no problem. Meet up have a beer if we dont hate each other on site lets battle it out with a quick game!

Genuine offer dude.
My local store is thinking of having a 'story based' tournament, following the films.
I dont know *how* they will do this yet but it would seem to mean that it would be OT ships only, perhaps pilots who die in one game cant be used in a following one.
I dunno... i just chatted briefly to the store owner about it.
New pilots and repaints. I'd love to have 3 or 4 paint variants of the trilogy ships, and a large selection of pilots and upgrades. Ship behaviour could be modified with unique titles also. This ship needs pilots more than ships -- wouldn't it be cool if each pilot had their own painted ship? Maybe with pilot specific titles? (technically they could be pilot abilities, but the title makes it possible to retroactively modify older pilots)
I didn't mind the z95 and phantom, because they didn't feel that much different from the trilogy ships -- the phantom was unmistakably a tie, and the z95 was like an x-wing's little brother. The e-wing does nothing for me, and the defender just looks silly (My wife calls it 'fluffy' -- but make no mistake, fluffy is a beast).
The star viper looks like a completely different sci-fi series. I don't know what that is.
I can understand that people may not be interested in EU too, but ultimately, FFG has already done all the ships that appear in the actual films (the ones which they can do on this scale anyway). What else is there to do but go EU? They could just stop making new ships, but who wants that? The game would get boring after a while if it was always the same stuff on the table without any possibility of new things being introduced. And given that they are doing EU stuff, it would be silly not to include some place where all the non-Rebel, non-Empire ships can go. There are so many cool ships in the Star Wars universe that they would never be able to make use of if they insisted on sticking to the two original factions.

UGLY! the defender is the pinnacle of star fighter design mister! report to your nearest pain droid for correction.

Uhm… sure. Okay. Whatever.
Am I the only one who just really couldn't give a ****? I mean Black Sun this and bounty hunter that… It's all a bunch of crap I never cared about. I know there's a sizable contingent of people who were positively certain that Imperials would get a Huge ship to the point of practically seeing a Thrawn card in their dreams. Am I the only one who feels that this was almost absurdly anti-climactic?
I agree with the "meh". For me, this new faction just isn't interesting or exciting. I have nothing against EU ships, provided they're not both incredibly obscure AND don't fit the general aesthetics for the faction. But, for me the game was Rebels vs Imperials. The classic, iconic forces of good and evil duking it out in the stars.
I would've picked up the Most Wanted kit anyway for the repaints, but the Z95s are specifically Black Sun so I wouldn't be able to use them with my Rebels. I really don't understand why FFG decided on this for the paint scheme rather than try to capture the potential sales from Rebel players. I don't hate the new faction. I don't begrudge those who find it exciting. The only issue for me is getting my hands on the upgrades for a not-extortionate price, which I don't think will be as easy as some others have suggested.
It would not surprise me to find that:
a) Those posters who are not impressed with S&V are not posting their feelings, either because they feel intimidated by the potential fan-boy-esque backlash they might receive (seriously, the response has been nigh-on fanatical on here), or because they simply don't care about the faction (why post about something that doesn't bother you one way or the other?)
b) These boards are not representative of the general population of X-Wing players, since only those who really, really love it are likely to sign up and post on the message boards and this type of player is more likely to love a third faction than the more casual gamers, therefore the support for S&V on here may not be representative of its overall reception.
Finally, as an aside, the StarViper paint scheme looks absolutely terrible.
played 40k since late 80's
game was fun, liked battletech better.
still play 40k cause the group has so much money into it they don't want to stop.
they also feel that xwing is only for star wars fans, I keep trying to get them to try it, some wont budge and some will now only play xwing and haven't pulled out 40k in months.
I am an ork player, have been since the beginning. tried other armies but they never felt right to me.
I just think the prices are getting super silly now. $50 for 3 mega nobs. $80 for a tank that dies with 1 shot.
I tend to compare the prices versus how the model functions on the table. I am happy I have such a huge collection from over 20 years, or I wouldn't be able to afford to play anymore.
xwing at its core is a great game, it being star wars is just icing on the cake.
I am a buffalo bills fan and just like we here in western NY say F@#$ Bon Jovi for trying to steal our team, I say F@#$ GW for taking a cool game and ruining it to make share holders happy.
I still play Warhammer Fantasy, but I have long ago stopped giving GW money. All of my gaming funds pretty much go to Malifaux and X-Wing (with the occasional RPG, Legend of the Five Rings, or other odd purchase here and there). I own every 10 Thunders model in the former and every Imperial in the latter. I will be diving into S&V when they come out and purchase my first Rebel ship, a HWK, for immediate conversion.
I'm in the meh category. I don't have any real desire to get these new ships. They don't look so star warsy to me. I'm not an avid reader of the EU stuff so I have no real tie to them.
My 40K Black Templar army (and some old, oop Juan Diaz Daemonette sculpts & assorted metal miniatures) paid for the vast majority of my X-Wing collection. As well as carry cases, gaming mats & 3D asteroids.
As much as I wanted to hang to them, they weren't being used, so they got replaced.
The good news is, there's plenty more GW stuff sat in the cupboard that can pay for Wave 5 and 6 as well...
Don't lose heart about the huge imperial ship. With Armada coming out, they weren't going to hamstring it by putting out a huge imperial at the same time. The huge imperial will come. You will just have to be a little bit patient. Something that none of us are good at.
Guys I thought this forum was supposed to be about how someone was displeased with the awesome new pirate ships and thinks that they aren't the most epic thing X-wing has done so far... But apparently its about trashing Waaaag and making criticizing comments that offer no real solution or input.
I'm all for people offering their arguments for why they think something is a good or bad idea but you should at least make a proposed solution or attempt to explain your viewpoint without resorting to slander. I don't know its kind of annoying honestly and there is no reason. We aren't (or at least shouldn't be) toddlers throwing a tantrum in the park because someone won't share their toy.
As to the actual topic of this post: I am very excited about the new faction because it is literally everything that I could possibly hope for. New ships that all seem to favor speed over firepower! I can not wait to see more of the specifics for the ships.
In addition the release of S\V means that we can now create campaign type games and have more people playing without having too many people on the same team.
-All comments that I make are my own opinion and are not intended to offend anyone so sorry if they do. ![]()
patient?
im very patient.
its not like I started my own thread titled rant.......oh....wait ......I did ![]()
hey, something else we really need to pay attention to is repurposing of ships!!!!!!
they have not done this before. this in itself is epic!!!!
does this mean there will be upgrade packs sold without ships in the near future??????
hmmmmm.......interesting?
I really think an imperial epic is far less important to me than fixing the ships that I don't get to play with, interceptors, advanced, y's, ect. nvm how excited I am about the viper and new Firespray stuff.

Haven't sold anything yet but all 40k stuffs gone into boxes, it's a vain hope but I don't want to sell everything in case a turn around occurs and the game becomes worth playing again.
And x-wing is fairly easy to store and does not hurt the wallet as much as 40k did.
I figure £70 should give me a decent s&v force, if they hit around Xmas I know what Santa's bringing.
I will now play a lot more with the Firespray.
I always prefered fielding 'pure' Imperial list, so using the Slave 1 with a couple Tie always looked wrong for me. I blame my OCD.
When I first heard about the second faction, I was also 'meh' by the announcement. Not because I didn't want a 3rd faction but probably because I was waiting more for an Imperial Epic ship and a Tie Advanced fix. But after reading the preview and listening to the interview, I can't wait to get my hands on those ships!
Big ships will come we know they read the forums but they'll come when they are ready, and it will be glorious!
But remember epic play isn't the main focus of x-wing it's a nice expanded playstyle, the last thing we want is what happened to 40k that went from a nice skirmish game to a bloated mess that's near unplayable because it was never meant to handle massive battles.
