And lo, a great "meh" resounded throughout the land...

By That One Guy, in X-Wing

I'm the opposite of "meh" for this faction pack.

I'm super excited. I have *zero* idea of any of the Expanded Universe/Legends/whatever it's called now, but I think it's fun and fantastic. I'm eager for HWK updates, along with the Y-Wing too. The other ships look great and fun too.

I'm the polar opposite of 'meh'.

Talone Carde anyone?

Mara Jade as a smuggler?

How bout Han Solo as a smuggler before Yavin?

Hounds Tooth has to be on the horizon now.

I still think racial pilot cards would be cool. Like Gamorean= determination but target can turn a focus to a blank.

Haven't sold anything yet but all 40k stuffs gone into boxes, it's a vain hope but I don't want to sell everything in case a turn around occurs and the game becomes worth playing again.

And x-wing is fairly easy to store and does not hurt the wallet as much as 40k did.

I figure £70 should give me a decent s&v force, if they hit around Xmas I know what Santa's bringing.

The worst of it is, some of my friends who are 40K players say the latest edition is really good - they're enjoying the games more than they have for some time.

I'm pretty much completely over it now - I've played all of half a dozen games of 40K/Fantasy combined in the last year, and I can get 3 games of (much more enjoyable inmy opinion) X-Wing in the time it takes to play one game of Warhammer. GW's product has become monolithic and the costs involved are extortionate. I've sold GW plastics I bought a decade ago on eBay for more than I originally paid for it and the pewter models, much more.

The collector in me wants to keep some of the stuff I've painstakingly kit bashed, converted and painted, but the pragmatist thinks that even if I did, it's unlikely I'll play again. They'd just sit in a box in the cupboard gathering dust. That's what I call a "meh".

my wife is ready to call the TV show hoarders to get rid of my gaming stuff I no longer use, its a lot.

I've tried selling what I could stomach getting rid of, but there is still a lot.

and my last bunch of ebay auctions trying to sell the marines I bought, from when I thought about starting another army, I was selling 2 terminators for $5 starting, $10 for a 10 man tactical squad, and they didn't even sell.

this was proof to me, GW is not in as much demand as they think they are. they are a dying company, and they killed themselves. it use to be a game by gamers, now its a corporation that makes games.

as you can see in the FFG videos, they are clearly gamers who make games, and they are smart about the business end of it. they don't walk on water, but they water ski pretty good.

have you seen what you get n that box dude?

Three $10 ships is what I get in that box. Some extra cardboard ain't worth another $10.

Are you comparing the standalone ships online discount price to MSRP?

MSRP is $15/$40, so you're getting the three ships at below individual cost, plus all the bonus stuff for the HWK and Firespray.

Seems that way, but he did go on to admit he was wrong a few posts upstream.

I have to admit, I was rather meh about the 3rd faction. Mostly because I'm not interested in dropping another $150 on enough ships for one.

But the idea of 4 M3-A's and 2 boxes of Most Wanted... With upgrades for the HWK and Firespray well that's a fair number of options for $100.

I'm excited. My biggest gripe is that the new ships don't fit my aesthetic expectations - particularly the star viper. I'm sure I'll get over that though and own them all.

Missed that, although the thread had derailed so badly after that I didn't go through the remaining 2-3 pages all that thoroughly.

For myself, I'm excited for it. The scum side of things is probably the most grounded expansion of Star Wars - it builds from the bounty hunters who appeared on screen, and Shadows of the Empire, which is as close to canon as you'll get without it appearing on screen. It's also been a major part of the Clone Wars.

I can understand not being excited about it, but it seems like some people are on a "It doesn't belong in my game" kick, which I really have zero sympathy for.

particularly the star viper.

Why? I have to admit I'm warming up to Wave 6, I enjoy the type of MtG'ing decks they said S&V will feel like. That and what should be painfully obvious realization, that I don't have to buy the StarSquid or IG-2000 and still have a lot of ships with 4 M3-A's and 2 Most Wanted boxes is really making me reconsider my plans in regards to wave 6.

Oh only in the sense it doesn't fit with my imagination. The star viper looks like it belongs in some OTT anime. It's still a great looking ship, just one that doesn't look right to me. The M3s are fine though,.

I can't wait to fly them all. Their looks are only a minor gripe. The design philosophy the FFG guys were explaining on the team covenant interview has me very interested.

And my own for not seeing that before I posted :)

And for my post where I realise that you'd realised.

WE MUST GO DEEPER

I though it said derper, it was funnier that way. Not calling you that, was just amused at the thought of some compounded punny self-deprecation. @_@

Jar-Jar could be a chardaan refit type upgrade:

Jar-Jar Binks (Crew, Cost -2): You cannot focus

It seems odd to me that someone can be a Star Wars fan and not be excited by more Star Wars stuff. Like, if you care enough about Star Wars to want to play a Star Wars miniatures game, why would you not want to have more ships and stuff? As long as it is true to Star Wars canon and fits in with the rest of the universe and the theme of the game, what's not to love? The game would get incredibly dull if it was just X-Wings and Y-Wings vs TIE Fighters and the TIE Advanced.

There are plenty of things that Star Wars fans don't like about Star Wars. Let's just all be thankful that Jar Jar isn't in the game... yet.

At first I was completely meh.

It was cool in a "wow, wouldn't have thought they'd do it" kind of way, but I couldn't get past my disapoint over the Imp epic.

I think they could have softened the blow if they'd previewed something, anything for the existing factions.

If S&V didn't grab you the there was literally nothing to look at.

But this view is clearly wrong and I am evil for having it so I'll move on.

I'm coming around though, mostly because of IG200.

I'l very likely end up with all the S&V pieces eventually, but I'll pick them up gradually instead of feverishly. It'll be a nice change.

Honestly, I'm rather disappointed with all the "We didn't get what we wanted what is this trash they gave us?" stuff.

I've been hoping - and commenting that it was a good idea - for a third faction since before Wave 3 was announced. And the epic guys go all of what, three months worth of waiting and it's "Ooooh, so disappointed, this is soooo horrible, I don't know if I can keep playing this game!!!"

Sheesh. I've got a year and a half bonus wait time you can have.

how can we fit Ewoks in space?

what kind of crew effect could they grant?

Ewok chant? allows you to gain a focus each turn without using an action?

Ewok gunner? same effect as gunner only some how randomize who it shoots at? so card would be cheaper and you have a chance of shooting one of your ships?

Well, I think there's a subtle difference between not getting what we wanted, and getting something we didn't want. What would have been really nice, though, is if FFG had slowed down their releases for a heartbeat. Regardless of what I think about a third faction, three more releases before the end of the year is just too much. If they had given themselves some room and built up expectations between now and spring, even folks like me might have had a hard time not being enthusiastic about S&V. As things stand, it's simply too much too fast.

You're getting greedy, FFG.

Thanks for proving my point that anyone with my point of view is going to get jumped on.

Your ridiculous mocking tone is undeserved. There's nothing unreasonable about what I said, get a grip.

Epic play *needs* a piece for the Imperials. There is none. The format exists and is running but is incomplete.

Even if we'd been teased something we'd still be a long way out from release.

For those that play epic this is disapointing. Sorry that makes us worthless and weak.

I'm glad you got your third faction. I just don't understand why your so gleeful I didn't get my ship.

Do you not understand that it didn't have to be one or the other?

If you knew a thgird faction was on the way but it was delayed so they could promote a new board game that had scum in it, wouldn't that irk you?

We are looking at December/January (maybe more if haven't figured out the issues that caused the Imperial Aces delay). Optimistically, 3-4 months after the smaller Wave 5. Now, you could possibly combine Rebel Aces into the mix, but I doubt people are going to spend more on Wave 5 than Wave 1-4. I think we all realized this was the end result of them getting their production up to speed with demand. And it is still far easier than Wizkid's Attack Wing schedule (hey, who wants 2 $100 figs).

And just because it's product you don't want, doesn't mean that it is an unwanted product. There are those that really do like the Scyk. I'm not thrilled with a third faction, but I'm not denouncing it or bitter towards those who wanted it. The implementation is the best they could've done. As much as I'm not thrilled with it, I will pick some up. I like the ESB bounty hunters, so a duo of Fett and Iggy will be fun. And I like the Starviper.

You're getting greedy, FFG.

If their designers produce solid, balanced material at that rate, then that's how fast FFG releases. If they were pumping out broken crap then I'd agree with you, but it's still solid, playtested and balanced material.

Well, I think there's a subtle difference between not getting what we wanted, and getting something we didn't want.

That's hardly true. A lot of people wanted a 3rd faction.

As far as slowing down. FFG had said way back when, that their goal was 3 waves a year, which if Wave 6 comes out before the end of year, puts them on track. In addition to that, there's been Aces pack and 2 Epic ships. It's not like they're pumping out ships at Wizkid speed here.

I just don't understand why your so gleeful I didn't get my ship.

There was nothing in there that was gleeful about not getting epic ships. He was simply pointing out that some people have been waiting wayyy longer for a 3rd faction then we've waited for Imperial Epic ships.

"We" referred to the people who didn't want a third faction, not the community at large.

As far as releases are concerned, they might end up having a release a month for the next several months, and I just put down over $150 for the last wave not more than a month or two back. That's definitely too much too fast.

That's fair :)

As I said, I didn't want one, but I have to admit I'm starting to warm up to it. If for no other reason then then what they seem to be planing on with the new factions play style. That and I can avoid the ships I don't like and still have enough to make a few different lists.
