My initial Meh has definitely changed to a WHOA!
The article did it for me, then I watched the video from Team Covenant and I was convinced that X Wing is in the right hands going in the right direction.

I can understand that people may not be interested in EU too, but ultimately, FFG has already done all the ships that appear in the actual films (the ones which they can do on this scale anyway). What else is there to do but go EU? They could just stop making new ships, but who wants that? The game would get boring after a while if it was always the same stuff on the table without any possibility of new things being introduced. And given that they are doing EU stuff, it would be silly not to include some place where all the non-Rebel, non-Empire ships can go. There are so many cool ships in the Star Wars universe that they would never be able to make use of if they insisted on sticking to the two original factions.
"And lo, a great meh resounded throughout the land"?
More like a quiet whimper of a one person meh, drowned out by the ongoing cheering of the masses. Seriously - the vast majority of feedback I've seen on the forum so far regarding S&V (all weekend, since the announcement on Friday) has been hugely positive.
There's been one of two dissenting voices, sure, but they've definitely been in the minority.
Indeed. My first purchase was three bounty hunters with naery a 'proper' imperial ship in sight. I'm kind of enthused that you can do it as a proper faction.
Plus Xisor is awesome. "Excuse me, disposable minion, but could you step this way for a minute?" BLAM! "Thank you."
So last weekend I was working my arse off to complete a job thanks to a pipeline screw up (Canada, I blame you). Come back from that to find out the super mega awesome reveal from Friday at GenCon was… pirates?
Uhm… sure. Okay. Whatever.
Am I the only one who just really couldn't give a ****? I mean Black Sun this and bounty hunter that… It's all a bunch of crap I never cared about. I know there's a sizable contingent of people who were positively certain that Imperials would get a Huge ship to the point of practically seeing a Thrawn card in their dreams. Am I the only one who feels that this was almost absurdly anti-climactic?
And on top of that, I can't help but think of other games I've played that started out with a design philosophy that got completely torpedoed by the game designers adding on additional expansions or factions or what have you. So far I think the incredible balance FFG's designers have struck was thanks in no small part to the fact that only two sides needed to be balanced against each other. Now we'll have a third group forcing the hands of the other two faction's abilities. No, I don't think the sky is falling, but I'm kinda thinking it looks a might cloudy.
I utterly disagree with everything you typed out, except that part about Canada. If it was not for RUSH and cool weather, they would be a eye sore. I mean they just stay up there to themselves and they are all healthy and happy... screw them!

Brother it is so right that I have more excitement for this great game than I had over Epic, and you guys know how much I have posted about that.
I love the Epic Huge ships, but a SCUM Faction opens things up so much more!!!!!!
The very fact that this faction happened says a great deal about how cool our FFG Winger Brothers really are.

The new designers KNOW what needs to be done to keep our badass game going for years to come.

I'm fairly new to X-Wing, and coming from Warhammer and Magic and did worry a bit about power creep and having to keep spending money to stay relevant. However, is that really the case though? I mean, as far as I can tell you can be perfectly competitive even if you decide to stick to waves 1 and 2. This is a huge positive for me, and definitely a selling point when I try to persuade friends to get into the game. Sure, you can (and I probably will, eventually) buy everything, but it would be because you want to, not because you have to.
I felt the same until I looked closely at how FFG executed S&V. I'm impressed so far.
I quite agree - the irony of taking a rather mediocre idea but implementing it so slickly isn't lost on me ![]()
Eh. Some people want to play X-Wing Miniatures, and some people want to play Star Wars Galaxies Miniatures. It's just too bad FFG decided to cater to the latter. I wonder when they'll officially change the name.
#edited to spare the feelings of the big green pout machine#
Edited by FTS GeckoBut as others have said, if you dont go EU...
Well all the Imperial huge ships are out of scale so no epic.
Everything else has been done that has had any significant appearance in the OT
So what do you do, just cards and upgrades and the game grinds to a halt?
I'd be totally happy playing it for years if nothing new ever came out but then i dont feel that i need a 'new purchase' every week to keep me into a game. I've been playing BFG from GW for a decade and never bought anything past a initial release chaos and imperial fleet.
As i've said before, there has been no 'wave 1' release for monopoly yet and i've been playing that since i was a kid and still have the occasional game.
But FFG are a business and this made the most sense to me for a business to do. Unless you're really into tournaments no one is making you play with or against anything you dont like.
If you played me round my house and said 'can we just use OT ships' i'd be totally cool with that.
Personally i only *really* like the EU stuff that was in games i played in the 90s like the HWK from dark forces.
But i do like the idea of being able to use OT ships as pirates and mercs
---> Obvious troll post. <---
Sorry, I thought I was talking with adults.
Edited by WonderWAAAGHSW Galaxies EU Ships (excluding OT ships):
Scyk, Decimator, Z-95 Headhunter
Empire at War Forces of Corruption EU Ships:
TIE defender, TIE phantom, StarViper, Z-95 Headhunter, IG-2000, HWK (kinda)
They've sourced two things from SWG (the Scyk and the Decimator), and only one of them is a Scum Ship. The other is a giant Imperial death machine nobody was complaining about.
Edited by LagomorphiaI purposely didn't read any of the posts after your post, senior OP.
Any nincompoop can reckon that having three factions is the closest thing to perfection in game balance as you can possibly get.
The Scums are the Protoss to the Imperial Zerg and Rebel Terrans. I'm actually really really excited about things now because we're not going to see the same old rock, scissors, potato (tie advanced) crap that we've been putting up with the last few years. This is a really good sign. It means that the new ships don't really have to be balanced against each other now, they can just start filling space inside their own internal balance. A third faction irons things out when trying to build all comers lists and should blunt the edges on the old hard counter builds. I've been looking forward to this moment for a long time.
Plus, how can you not want a new Boba Fett pilot card! That's just madness!
---> put-upon bleating <---
Oh, don't take it so personally, WonderWAAAGH. FFG didn't implement the S&V faction just to spite you, you know.
The game is evolving. Maybe you should too.
---> More poorly disguised childish behavior. <---
Don't take what so personally, your very personal jab that had nothing to do with my on-topic post? You'll have to remind me why it is that you've made it your personal mission to take me down a peg at every opportunity, because I don't quite recall what I did to you.
Edited by WonderWAAAGH---> sulking <---
Don't pout, WonderWAAAGH, it's very unbecoming.
I know you're mightily upset that FFG have decided to release fresh ideas and beautiful new models for their amazing game, but ypu don't have to buy them you know. Or comment on them for that matter.
It was just a bit of friendly banter. But tell you what, you're that upset, if a 10 second YouTube video offends you so much, I'll remove it. How's that? All better?
Or you could just stop trolling me. You can keep feigning innocence if you like, but there's nothing friendly about your obvious obsession with me.
Now, would you care to go back to talking about the subject at hand, or do you just want to continue making more work for the moderators?
Edited by WonderWAAAGHSurprisingly enough not everything is about you WonderWAAAGH. Suck it up.
Surprisingly enough not everything is about you...
Except for your past 3 posts, which are the only ones I'm addressing at present. I don't expect people to share my views and outlooks on the game, but I also don't expect them to act like you have since I shared my opinion in this thread. You've made absolutely no attempt to discuss the actual topic at hand, choosing instead to make some misguided attempt at putting me in my place. So, you very much have chosen to make this about me, and you still haven't bothered to clue me in as to why that's the case. Are my sentiments somehow less valid, or is it simply your job to make inflammatory remarks towards outspoken posters?
Edited by WonderWAAAGHok, for some reason my computer isn't copying the statement I want to counter, so......
for those who think scum and villainy have no place in fighting 2 military forces.......
rebels are wanted criminals, any crime organization will take a chance at capturing these rogues and turning them in, or they are fighting for the same contraband to sell on the black market that rebels want for their cause.
scum and villainy are mostly outlaws themselves, so being hunted by the empire or raiding empire convoys for spoils is totally reasonable. hell, even being hired by a rebel operative to hit a certain target to draw attention away from a rebel operation is within the realm of reason.
please don't try to reason against this, if you read any novels or comics, this is abundantly clear.
Gah, just kiss and get married already.
How great would it be if these two were actually the same person?
you all need to block mister waaagh!
my life has become much better now that his comments just show up as blocked.
trust me you will thank yourself......
