Seeds of Heresy (Play-by-Post) INPLAY

By GauntZero, in Adventure: Seeds of Heresy

Camyll shows no aggressiveness at all, relaxing his shoulders and opening his hands in a peaceful gesture, reasoning that those people are under suspect of heresy and that a neutral greet could be better than a faithful one.

"Greetings, Sergeant. My name is Camyll Ronzoni, member of the ejecutive department of the administration under the commandment of our Captain. My honourable superior here -Shows a sign of deference to Reginald-. would be pleased to let you see our identifications. I'm sure we can manage this situation without abase ourselves."

[i Roll charm (If that would be doable) for trying to get them nicer with us. Roll is 29 out of 43]

He seems to get a little more relaxed (Charm 2 DoS) and is waiting for Reginald to pass over the documents.

Reginald moves his hand from the hilt of his chainsword. He approaches the gathered soldiers and marks the sign of the Aquila himself. Those close to him can hear Reginald counting off exactly seven seconds as he holds the sign. Reginald introduces himself.

I am Reginald Grimstone, Adeptus Administratum Administrator Class Section 75-9. I am here as a delegation of the above orbiting ship to investigate your due tribute of foodstuffs to the great cause of Our Emperor."

Reginald presents the soldier with a large stack of paperwork. Reginald looks at the wide-eyed Angevin. He begins pointing at sections of the documents.

"Ah...this is our identification and stated mission signed in triplicate by myself, our ship's captain, and my head administrator. All I require is your signature here, here, and here."

Reginald winces slightly as he withdraws the large stack and hands back only a few sheets of documents.

"Sergeant Crouze, may I ask the stated purpose of greeting a routine inspection with military force?"

Reginald spreads his arms in an open and non-threatening gesture.

Teagan opens the right side of his coat (the side without the concealed stub automatic) and slowly but casually withdraws a pack of lho sticks. He takes one out and places it between his lips and lights it. He then withdraws a second stick and holds it out to the Sergeant as a peace offering. As he offers it, he uses Scrutiny (Per 40 [GM rolls]).

The sergeant takes the documents and studies them carefully.

After a while he nods towards his men and they seem to relax a little more.

"I indeed welcome you on Novabella ! Please forgive us this way of welcoming you...but to be honest, we were not sure about your true identity. Would you please follow us to the transport. Viceroy Martein Kathrinka would like to have a word with you in the Kathrinkas residence."

@ Elior: 3 DoS --> it seems very obvious to you that the Sergeant neither has any idea what this documents are about, nor did he have a lho stick very often before (maybe this is even his first one ever)

[did the sergeant sign the documents? If so, did he just sign an X (indicating illiteracy) or did he sign his name?]

Reginald takes the returned documents and places them in a compartment. He smiles and nods toward the other acolytes.

"You ride with the men in the cargo hold. I shall ride with the sergeant and discuss with him how best to report his professionalism and timeliness to the Viceroy."

Reginald turns to the sergeant, waiting from an escort to his seat.

[The sergeant did not sign the documents at all. He says he is the wrong mn for this and tells you the viceroy will talk with you about the details]

The sergeant escorts Reginald to the transport and expects the other acolytes to follow.

His men head back to the cargo hold and make some room for the acolytes.

Teagan obliges and follows the other soldiers to the cargo.

He says to the soldiers upon entering, "Looks like we're riding back here with you gents" as he smiles and offers any of them a Lho stick. If nobody takes one, he just nods his head and slips the pack back in his coat pocket.

While he does so, he examine's the soldier's weaponry and gear to get a better idea of how well the PDF forces are outfitted compared to other planets.

Reginald sits in his seat next to the sergeant. He pulls out a fresh form and begins asking the sergeant about his background and position on the planet. Reginald is trying to indirectly find out about the current state of the military on Novabella. Reginald also asks about the Viceroy and his standing on Novabella, trying to get a rough idea of the political situation on the planet. These questions are all asked in the guise of getting information in order to praise the sergeant to the viceroy, so they won't be very detail-oriented. Upon getting an answer about these things from the guard, Reginald asks about the current status of the tithe crop on Novabella. [let me know if you need a roll for any of this]. Any time the sergeant appears to grow weary of these questions, Reginald again thanks him for his helpfulness and reiterates how anxious his is to report this professionalism to the Viceroy.

Upon receiving enough information from the captain, Reginald begins to record information about the current transport and asks the sergeant if he knows the fuel consumption of the vehicle and the exact distance they are traveling.

@Elior:

One of the soldiers seems to be a little more easy-going than the others are.

He is a rough guy with more muscles than most of the others have, who has the smile of a bandit.

"Owen Creeks sends his regards", the soldier says as he takes the lho stick from you and hands you over a small silver bottle in exchange. "Homebrew", he smiles.

Your talk with the Sergeant provides you with the following pieces of information:

> besides the Sworn protectors who are responsible for the protection of Novabella itself, the planet has a second para-military force called the Tithguard (who work for the Agriharvest Sodality) and the so-called Strictionists, who are responsible for general security and local law enforcement on Novabella (comparable to magistratum forces).

> the Sergeant has a medium rank and is hoping for a fast career (he is still young)

> the Viceroy seems to be the one who handles everything operative on the planet. The official leader though is his older brother, Governour Everfast Kathrinka with his wife Cellia Kathrinka.

> the Sergeant put a lot of emphasize to assure you, that the tithe is prepared and stored in the right amount as needed, details will be provided by the viceroy.

Teagan takes the bottle, politely solutes the soldier and takes a swig. (Is it amasec?) He hands the bottle back and asks, "pretty quite here at the port. I take it Novabella doesn't get too many visitors?"

You failed Toughness with 2 DoF

---> you start coughing because of the sharp drink

"Tough stuff, my friend", Owen says with a rough smile on his lips, "something that separates thee boys from the men".

"You are the first visitors since...**** it, I dont even know. I didnt ever meet any offworlder, and I am in service since 13 years now. Why did it take you so long ? Arent the tithes that important anymore ?"

Teagan gives a friendly chuckle at Owen's remark about toughness.

"First of all, let me say that your long service is commendable. Secondly, (Teagan puts on a serious expression) Novabella's tithes are still and will always be vitally important to the Imperium and our Emperor. Sometimes details fall through the cracks and let me assure you that the adept responsible for this will be held accountable. That is why we are here, to reassure Novabella that it is indeed important to the Cause and that any mistakes will be corrected with haste."

"You certainly keep an impressively armed PDF force. Do you have any trouble to contend with, External or Internal?

"Nice to hear that our watch over this lonesome planet is not all in vain", he gives you a rough laugh.

"As we didnt hear from any other imperial instance for a long long time, we almost thought we have been forgotten...a ridiculous thought..."

"Not much trouble going on in the recent years. More to do for the restrictionists and the titheguard I guess. Thanks to the Harvest Father, we didnt have much trouble from outside the planet so far. So most work we currently do is helping in the occurance of natural disasters and carrying out the kathrinka families special wishes, like fetching you guys or making a big parade at each years governours birthday."

Camyll attends at the conversation with an ill-defined looking. If banal conversation arises, won't lose an oportunity to talk a little bit about the daily life at the space station. His mind wanders on the meeting is going to occur, trying to schedule the future conversation.

"The Emperor forgets not one of his children. But the Imperium is a vast vast place, and it cannot always function smoothly. We have problems and strife across the entire galaxy. Believe me, it's probably a lot better down here then it can get out there, ha ha. All we can do is trust in the Emperor."

"What do the restrictionists and tithe guard do? I assume the guard protect His Harvest? Has there been any trouble in that area?"

A little less than 1h later, you arrive at a security checkpoint. After a short checking of papers, you drive onto the Kathrinkas estate.

The soldiers guide you out of the transport and into a building, where you are told to wait in a big hall.

The Sergeant thanks you for your good cooperation so far and tells you that the viceroy will send for you as soon as possible.

The soldiers remain in close proximity, are far enough though to give you some privacy as you wait.

After sitting down I bring the others close to talk

"They seem peaceful enough, if not a bit leery of outsiders. Understandable though, after 20 years. They seem eager enough to resume the tithe. The only odd feeling I have is with the PDF forces being extremely well equip. The Governor obviously has invested a lot into them. In the Imperiums absence he might well have turned this place into his own personal kingdom. But that'll be a matter for the administratum to decide when they arrive. Still, we must make sure to keep the Governor humoured for our time here."

After a long moment of thinking I look up again, disquieted,

"Wait, have you heard any of them mention the Emperor yet?"

Edited by Felenis

"Not even one time, amigo ." -Camyll answers-. "They talked a lot about the Harvest Father, didn't they?. Could it be their way of calling The Emperor. It's not so strange, specially after an isolation period. Just let us be cautious. Don't show ourselves too faithful. We're supposed to be "corruptible", so better If we appear a little bit "idle" in the matters of faith."

*Winks and smiles slyly to Rynn*

"The shots and the Emperor come later, don't they?"

I look at him rather sternly.
"I will not be appearing "idle" in my faith. We don't need to be saps. Corruptible or not, we are the biggest news on this planet in 2 decades, so all elements, good or bad will be drawn to us regardless."

"Anyways, I think you're right about the Harvest-Emperor. Maybe a little bit of Reginald's briefing actually managed to get in here" *knocks on his head*

I slump into my chair. "Would it be that we didn't have to fire a shot." *sign of the Aquila*

I takes longer as you thought would be polite, but still not long enough to be reasonable angry at the man who now comes to officially welcome you on Novebella.

The man who is introduced to you as the Viceroy of Novabella and operative executive of the planet, Martein Kathrinka, enters the hall with confident steps. He wears gala uniform and is flanked by two huge men who are supposed to be his bodyguards.

He is a dark haired man in his mid 40ies with a proud mustache and piercing grey eyes.

The soldiers in the hall suddently stand very straight, and you can almost feel the air of authority which is starting to fill out the room.

Camyll bows with his head respectfully and remains silent, waiting for him to come closer and start with the first word.

I snap to attention and salute him.

"My Lord"

and then wait for Reginald
