THE MANDALORIAN, in a Civilized Age

Space opera is opera and so is Star Wars. Great music, great stage design, cheesy actors and a ridiculous libretto. Lucas can't write (but he can steal) and he can't direct (Harrison Ford is a very good actor, but not in Star Wars), but he had people that designed for him the X-Wing, the Stormtroopers and Yoda. Now there are others who just copy his formula: a mixture of samurai flick, Battle for Midway, Leni Riefenstahl and youtube kitten video.

It‘s funny that we all love these bad films so much. Not every film maybe. But some of them, though they are all cheesy and ridiculous, bad written and poorly acted.

*sigh*

For me, it is the stage design. Stands out like a Stormtrooper among Space Marines.

Back then people knew how to suspend disbelief properly. Most movie classics from before the mid 90's would be nothing more than hot trash in the crowd reviews if released as original today...modern tech or not. At best they'd get a cult following (see the sharknado series) but not hollywood blockbuster status.

Edit: Full disclosure, i fall into that crowd right now. As much as i loved seeing Asohka back, the way she dealt with the magistrates lackeys (especially the opener) felt very darkside given they appeared to be sentient and not droids. Time will tell, it may even become part of the narrative.

Not sure if the viewers changed or the film makers. My 11-year-old daughter liked the OT very much. Episode I was boring in her eyes.

Being a Jedi doesn't mean one cannot use lethal force on living beings, only that it must be the only alternative and that no more lives are taken then are necessary. Ahsoka killed plenty of beings during the Clone Wars, yet she remained a Jedi because the killings were morally justified. In the same way, the magistrate's goons were oppressing a community and using lethal force at the slightest provocation. Ahsoka gave them opportunities to surrender, but they refused to do so. The fact that they lost their lives is on them, not her.

She aint no Jedi.

I definitely picked up a vibe that she has become more pragmatic over the years...

My 8-year-old loves OT and especially loves Episodes 1&2. I think part of it is all the Clone Wars we watched. He doesn't dig the sequels all that much, but admits that Rey and BB-8 are cool -- and that Sith Trooper helms are cool.

Geonosians are also sentient, and Anakin straight up murders a great many of them in episode 2. Also Luke & Co. kill everyone on Jabba's barge is episode 6. Heroes in Star Wars never shy away from mass murder in the name of a cool action scene.

No, Anakin does not straight up murder the Geonosians in Episode 2, they try to sneak past them and when Anakin and Padme are attacked they defend themselves, there is a difference. Luke does try to get Jabba to release them first without violence, he gives jabba multiple chances to free them. Besides, it was Leia that killed Jabba, not Luke.

Just because a Jedi kills someone does not make it Murder or "darkside".

Leia may have killed Jabba, but Luke tells her to blow up the barge. Jabba was already dead, and the barge likely still had many sentients on board, why blow it up? They could have just flown away on the skiff and left it there.

Also that was my point. People were saying that Ahsoka killing people who were actively trying to kill her was darkside. I was pointing out that there are many examples of Jedi doing exactly that.

The episode starts with Asoka giving them the chance to give her the information she wants peacefully. The magistrate then starts threatening villagers, so at that point Asoka's fully justified in using as much force as needed to protect the villagers. Not even close to the dark side.

Episode 14

HOOOOOOLEEEEEEEEE !!!

Old Man Maori Ragemonster Boba is not something I ever thought I needed in my life, but hoo-ee that was awesome. Was previously a bit ambivalent about the rumoured prospect of a Boba show, but now I dig it. And it's always good to see more Ming Na Wen now that Agents of SHIELD is finished(also, how in the **** is that lady 57 years old , and where can I get some of whatever dark magic is preserving her).

Referencing the Open Seasons comic and confirming the peacenik faction PM in Clone Wars was lying out his **** and Jango was a Mandalorian(foundling) afterall? *chef kiss*

Still not much enjoying the portrayal of Storm Troopers are bumbling incompetents though - there were half a dozen times during the battle sequence where they were just running straight at Shand to set up shots for her, when if they'd remembered they were carrying blasters and actually shot at her she would have been done for. And I really hope the precursor model of landing craft isn't a sign they're going to start tying things tighter into the sequels.

Yup, a spicy meatball overall, looking forward to the final couple of eps now.

Really GO AWAY if you have not seen Episode 14

SPOILERS

You have been warned !

Ok I’ve been quiet for most of the Season because I know a ton don’t watch it as soon as some of us do, and I was holding off for the end of the season to post.

But this one I needed to get off my chest. After many, many YEARS of debates, from old Wookieepedia to new Wookipedia, with writers and editors during the pre Disney era to whatever it is today (Disney Stockholders on hold on line 66), from endless message boards to die hard fans at conventions, literally anyone who has an opinion and argued this.

And by Canon Writ, Imperial Decree and Holy Blessing of Favreau & Filoni, by the Old Gods and the New, for now and forevermore, a certain Prequel Bounty Hunter is CONFIRMED AS MANDALORIAN IN CANON

Just blown away by this episode. Absolutely hit every mark. Seeing Boba in the flesh, doing his thing, and getting backstory without tonnes of exposition. Id say this is the payoff most fans were waiting for.

And I had/have no interest in a Boba movie. This is the way.

I had no idea how badass a gaffi stick could be until this morning.

It was a really good episode, I even enjoyed the fangasm boba fett moment. Also the reveal of dark troopers was amazing as a dark forces fan. Will we see a mortar heavy weapon for stormtroopers?

*Spoilers*

I never accepted that Jango wasn't Mandalorian. That the line in the Clone Wars didn't mean he wasn't. So glad they canonized Jango being one. Great episode!

I mean Luke and the gang murdered Jabbas entire crew. Droids, slaves, interns and all just to save a drug smuggler. Granted Luke did offer a trade of 2 droids, but I can't believe they thought that would work nor that they would leave R2 there...3P0 maybe 😋 .

Round about '96 I got real bored with Boba Fett. Mostly because he didn't do anything really on screen other than look cool. I accepted that he died in the sarlaac pit.

But here Filoni has done it again. He got me to accept Maul's return and now he got me to love Boba Fett again.
