STAR WARS: RESISTANCE Discussion Thread!

By That Blasted Samophlange, in X-Wing Off-Topic

The timing of this announcement is unexpected, and interesting. I mean, we all knew that Filoni's team was working on something - and that it was likely called "Star Wars: Resistance", based on Disney's trademark filings.

But...why not wait until after the Solo movie has been out for some time before announcing it? Why risk any distraction from that? Even announcing it a month after 'Solo' comes out, it'd still be half a year or more before the series airs.

Odd.

(Although it does make me wonder...do ya suppose FFG might have anything to announce about this next Tuesday, now that it's out in the open?)

So.. is there a way to combine the seceral Star Wars Resistance threads, all discussing the same few points?

Hey guys! Just want to let you know the full thread for Resistance is up! I'd be happy to let somebody else do it but, like. I was kinda' requested to so I did. It should be right there on the front page.

While I appreciate it, we do already have, what 4 now, threads discussing it? Can we get them merged?

Theoretically a mod can do that. If you see one around...

I'm reporting the threads, mine included, to petition that. It makes sense to combine them.

Or... waves 1-2 for X-wing 2.0? :P

Join me and together, we can RULE the Resistance Threads..!

I'm disappointed that Disney isn't branching out into different timelines. Their sequel-era trainwreck is probably going to continue from here on out. I'mm expecting a very, very close parody of Rebels in spirit (not necessarily plot or characters), with little to no meaningful plot or character development.

If Filoni does go back to his Clone Wars way and starts making quality episodes again, I'll be happy. But otherwise, this is not the kind of series I'd enjoy flying ships from.

I'm really trying to parse through what you said just now and I'm having an extremely hard time with it. You seriously want different timelines? Like, actually want different timelines?

I still don't really get the Clone Wars love. So much of the show is so **** boring.

Probably not entirely. We've still got SOLO content, we've still got some TLJ stuff, and there's still a couple of things from the OT that aren't in yet- on top of various PT ships that can be worked in just fine. Bet your top dollar though, that we'll be seeing plenty of cool stuff from Resistance.

I'll never join you! Waitaminute... That is exactly what I want..

1: It was already teased.
2: SOLO could do well or it could TOTALLY bomb. So they want to have a fallback option.
3: Not every fan is looking forward to SOLO. In fact, there's a lot of negativity about it- and was before the polarizing "The Last Jedi", so it's a bit of a uh, situation going on here right now.

And yes. I perfectly expect FFG to announce something.

Here's the thing.

I HAVE NO FRAKKING IDEA WHAT!
We're still missing the RZ-2! Can you believe that!? It would however be EXTREMELY EARLY for them to announce something Resistance related... But you know what could fit just fine?
SOLO Content!

I appreciate that some might not like the Sequels, but doesn't it make the most sense to do a show in this Era?

One of the chief complaints of The Force Awakens was they didn't flesh out the universe.. well here we go, a major media format doing just that.

While there were some stumbling with Rebels to be sure, overall I felt it was handled deftly considering how close to the movies everything was. There wasn't a lot of wiggle room. So much of the state of the galaxy was a known quality. Clone Wars, and I hope Resistance has a little more freedom to Establish some major setting info, and flesh it out.

Exactly! This will finally flesh stuff out in some way. Granted, it'll all be very heavily resistance focused, but I'm sure it'll tell us a decent bit.

(Hey, might wanna change the title, don't wanna confuse the mods.)

I just want more Commentary with Dave Filoni, and his hat. Man knows how to pick a hat.

I've already reported the threads, explaining the situation. Hoping that they will see the similarities and smush them together actually.

SOLO Content!

Oh, yeah, I mean...Solo content is a given. No doubt. Scum Falcon with its detachable shuttle/thingy, and Imperial Heavy TIE Fighter - gives the Empire 2 ships alongside the Rebel's 2 ships in this wave, with 2 ships for Scum.

Fingers crossed for a Super Star Destroyer announcement for Armada, too, apropos of nothing.

But given how much FFG has been advertising the presentation - I mean...it's gotta be more than just new content for Armada and X-Wing (and Legion of course).

I'd agree that we wouldn't have much about Resistance at this point. But I can easily see a teaser announcement that FFG wants everyone to pay attention to, along the lines of 'Yes, we have already been working closely with Disney on tie-ins for the Resistance series, with SKUs expected for all of our current product lines' or something like that. THAT would be a big enough announcement to justify all the press around the mere existence of the presentation in the schedule.

Eh, it's just an escape craft. I don't expect it to come into gameplay much if at all. But the Heavy TIE definitely will..!

Can't imagine an SSD for Armada. Would that be like, Ultra Super Mega Epic Play? I'd super expect a Resurgent someday though.

I would like Resistance content right off the bat though. That would be extremely cool.

Especially justifying buying something this big.

[Carrying BIG box]"Hey Honey, I'm home from game-night"

[Very suspiciously-angry]"What the.... Did you actually dare to buy some Star Wars furniture ?"

But I gotta say the most exciting thing about Resistance is the chance to flesh out the Resistance and First Order factions. We have a chance to see the New Republics military before it gets wiped out, no matter how small it is, and possibly see the mythical T-85 X-wing and the full B-wing mark 2. Would also maybe get us a chance to see what a RZ-2 can really do and finally get us an expansion pack for it. Heck, maybe see some more warships to get more content for Armada as well...if they decide to go into the sequel trilogy...but rather see Prequel honestly...

And thank god for being single and not trying to make excuses. But if not maybe butter her up with sweets like chocolate, cake, or ice cream. Or flowers. Or use a old Jedi Mind Trick. If none of that works get High Ground cause Obi-wan showed nothing beats that.

As excited I am to see what new ships and characters this show will introduce (as well as fleshing out existing characters), I’m really interested to see what the art style is going to be. I think that will make it or break it for me.

As much as I despised the sequels (Albeit TLJ was better), my main concern is that the series won't flesh out much at all, beyond what we already know or deduce.

Rebels accomplished almost nothing towards this. Certain bits of scenery were outstanding, but very little world-building took place, even on Lothal. I haven't seen season 4 yet, and perhaps something happens there. Nevertheless, when comparing Rebels to The Clone Wars, the difference is startling. The nature of the clone wars took the audience to very numerous planets, outposts, force-realms (great arc there), into actually interesting political intrigue and into character development that actually made sense.

My concern is that Disney is aiming at a different audience. Or perhaps the same audience; hoping they'll settle for less.

Hopefully the space battles will be engaging to the tune of the old Rogue Squadron novels, with starfighters that aren't simply copies of existing designs.

The sequel era is unsalvageable.

No amount of fleshing out will make it anything else than rebel cosplayers but smaller and more idiotic vs a parody of the empire but bigger and more idiotic. They can explain why the Rebel cosplayers are smaller or how Smoke pulled a million Star Destroyers out of his ***, or how galaxy-wide water poisoning made everyone a r-word, but that's probably already done in a bunch of novels, and doesn't change the fact that the setting is broken on the fundamental level.

I think that if Disney were willing to do what they did to the old EU, and simply erase what they've done so far from the canon and 'let the past die', the era could be salvageable. Doubtless though, there's some proud bigwigs in the company that will refuse to let go of their enormously profitable flops.

I'm filled with regret that they didn't use Thrawn as the main villain of the sequel era, considering his sheer popularity and presence on screen (Rebels did villains right, for the most part).

I'd love to see the T-85, B-Wing MK II, and above all else, I want to see the new Y-Wing I know for sure they have stowed away somewhere.

So we just make a resistance thread every day? What was wrong with the two previous ones? Or the rebels thread renamed?

Why do we need a 4th thread for the same subject?

Because this is the official one. I was requested to make it, as I had headed the Rebels one for four years.
