The Hive Tyrant - WH40k: Conquest Video Series Thread

By TheHiveTyrant, in Warhammer 40,000: Conquest

Today, it's a match sent in by friend of the channel Travis Lodes, whom has gotten into the routine of filming his games! Featuring two of my channel's most seldom seen warlords, enjoy a delightful little game in which Old Zogwort does battle with Ba'ar Zul the Hate-Bound (Matt Dokos), to establish dominance over the Traxis Sector.

Is Old Zogwort a relic of our Conquest LCG past, or do we have reason to reconsider our squiggifying Orks warlord for contemporary, competitive play? Does Ba'ar Zul finally have the card pool he needs to be a respectably powerful warlord, or will he remain somewhat of a black sheep relative to his Chaos warlord peers?

Be sure to tune in and view today's game, and please leave your strategy and deckbuilding tips, constructive criticism, and feedback in the comments! Note also that this game was played on FFG's new "Unending War" two-player retail playmat. Thanks again to Travis (one of several up and coming new channel MVPs), and enjoy!

Can Sam's "Vehicular Mannslaughter" Eldorath deck stand up against our newest, ambushing Tyranid warlord, "Subject: Ω-X62113?" Do either of these deck types strike you as a viable tier one option during our imminently upcoming Regionals season? Be sure to let me know what you think of the competitive potential of each of these builds in the comments, and enjoy!

Today, it's our original Tau faction warlord (Josh Bergstrom) pit against the Sector's most popular commissar (Taylor Parolini)! In a game featuring two fine gentleman from the Minnesotan meta, today I ask, how does one build a modern, competitive Shadowsun?

As you watch this video, please respond in the comments - what, if anything, can Tau and Shadowsun in particular do to keep up with the likes of some of our new tournament powerhouses (e.g., Archon Salaine Morn, Chaplain Mavros, Broderick Worr). Is Drone Defense System sufficient, or do you have tech and suggestions of your own to share? Enjoy today's game, and do engage with the comments! Thanks for watching, and thanks to Christopher Dale Bates for his footage!

For your listening pleasure, the latest installment of The Tyrantcast is live! As Sam unveils his new, studio-quality microphone, today we discuss:
- Sam's store championship victory, and we deconstruct his Vehicle heavy Eldorath Starbane deck
- The "Slash and Burn" reveal article, which unveiled Grigory Maksim
- Our initial impressions of Chaplain Mavros and his associated war pack, Wrath of the Crusaders!
Be sure to check out the video description for a detailed breakdown of this titanic episode, along with timestamps for each topic we discuss if you don't have time for the full podcast.
For the indefinite future, I will endeavor to keep releasing as much high-quality content as often as I can, and I do hope you enjoy it!

My personal favorite meta is back! As our Russian store championship continues along toward an inevitable victor, Wolf Lord Ignor Treskunov must face "The Swarmlord!" (Mikhail Potalitsyn).

Our Tyranid commander-organism is vastly superior to any one Space Marine in terms of strength, skill, cunning, and martial prowess - so does Ragnar stand a chance? As with any game drawn from the Russian meta, this certainly isn't one acceptable to miss. As always, enjoy the show!

It's another game from the proper English gentlemen of the Guardians of Tyr! I hadn't seen a Ku'gath Plaguefather match in what feels like a millenium, so who better than Barrie Wardle to dust off the fellow and see how our second Chaos warlord performs with some of his new instruments of affliction? Sam Kerslake plays opposite, adopting the role of Nazdreg, and this made for a delightful match to watch. Enjoy! I strongly recommend you give this one a view.

The Champion of the Winter 2016 season of The Black Crusade returns! Having managed to eek out a win of that 115 entrant tournament, OCTGN user Prezi has since managed to win the Regional Championship which took in his homeland of Poland. Congratulations to him!

Today, we watch the final game in a 19 person OCTGN tournament he held in the style of The Black Crusade - and having won before with Broderick Worr, he now tries his hand at Torquemada Coteaz! Is it time for our Inquisitor to rise up to a position of newfound glory? Or instead, will he be left gutted and pillaged by the raiders of Archon Salaine Morn? I hope you enjoy today's match, and have a good one!

Thanks to the fine gentlemen of Omega Sector Gaming , today we enjoy a match featuring our just-released Chaplain Mavros (played by Bryan Koppang)! Will our warrior-priest fall prey to the Ambush playstyle of Subject: Ω (Ryan Murrell)? Or, shall his fearsome burst damage end up bloodying and breaking our latest Tyranid warlord and win him the day?

This is a lovely little match, and was a delight to commentate. Do be sure to leave your strategy and deck-building feedback for our players piloting these new warlords in the comments, and thanks for watching!

Today, enjoy another proxied preview of our latest to be revealed Death World Cycle warlord, Grigory Maksim (Eric Keilback)! Do bear in mind that he's "missing" the three War Packs and one Deluxe Expansion worth of as-of-yet-unspoiled cards that stand to be made available to him between now and the release of Slash and Burn, but in the meantime, it's always fun to take our newest spoilers out for a test drive and to get a rather rough idea for how they may function and play.

As of pack five of the Planetfall Cycle, does Ba'ar Zul the Hate-Bound (Guy Lev), finally have enough instrumentation at his disposal to have developed into a formidable warlord? Also, do you see Grigory as having any Tier One potential, when we see his eventual release? Be sure to let me know your thoughts on these questions (as well as your feedback on our players' strategy and approaches to deck-building), in the comments, and enjoy!

Today, we have a rather relaxing match filmed at the Fantasy Flight Games Center ! Thanks to Christopher Dale Bates, this weekend I hope you make time to enjoy a nice, casual game of Conquest pitting Packmaster Kith up against Broderick Worr (Adam Koshorek). Enjoy, and try not to take this particular match *too* seriously! Hopefully, our community will forever remain open and accepting of players of any and all skill and experience levels.

Here's wishing you each the best this weekend*, and be sure to share the results of any local tournaments with our worldwide community. I look forward to hearing about them!

*NOTE: tomorrow I'm going to release a VERY special video. Get excited, because it is NOT going to be something to miss!

A day long awaited has finally arrived, for the once dormant Necrons have awoken from slumber! Today, I have the honor of sharing my first proxy game for one of our upcoming warlords - it's Anrakyr the Traveller versus Ku'gath Plaguefather!

Are you curious as to how our new faction and warlord will play? If so, then be sure not to miss today's exhilarating game, because it truly exceeded my wildest hopes and expectations upon sitting down to record.

Thanks so much to Parker Ince and Guy Lev for making this spectacle possible, and look forward to what will hopefully be several more of these Necron preview matches to come in the eventual future.

Once my ongoing mid-term exams are finally over, expect more fantastic content to debut on The Hive Tyrant channel in the coming months than ever before - but in the meantime, enjoy!

Be sure to leave your thoughts on Necron faction strategy and deck-building in the comments, and have an amazing rest of your weekend.

Today, enjoy a match sent in courtesy of a first-time video contributor! Thanks to friend of the channel Søren Pedersen, watch as the Elite, cybernetically augmented Daemons of Ba'ar Zul the Hate-Bound throw themselves unrelentingly against Space Marines wielding some of the most potent Tau technology available. Shall Martin Kriegsbaum's Shadowsun reign triumphant? Will Ba'ar Zul remain Conquest's perpetual bunching bag, or instead, will our latest Chaos warlord serve to provide a staunch suggestion that Shadowsun should have stayed in the Core set? Tune in to find out, and enjoy!
NOTE: For the upcoming seven or so days, I'll be in the process of studying for and taking my college midterm exams (I'm taking an overload of credits). Because of poor planning on my part, for the first time in months, my channel looks like it is going to fail to output daily videos at least once or twice during this period of time. I'll attempt to keep up my established, arbitrary release schedule as best as I can, but it's looking to become quickly impossible given so much necessary studying. So rest assured, the channel will remain alive, but it may experience a "slow week" or so. Your understanding is appreciated, and I look forward to resuming my regular schedule upon completion of these exams.

Today, I turn 30 years old! So, what better way is there to celebrate than with our second Necrons faction gameplay preview?
Although by this point we've seen only perhaps half of the cards from Legions of Death spoiled, let's regardless take a glimpse at Nahumekh (Guy Lev) - and this time, Old Zogwort will be pulling no punches (Parker Ince)!
Will our first fully unveiled Necron Warlord stand irresolute against our Ork, and bend him to his implacable will? Or, is Nahumekh going to need his full Legions of Death card pool in order to stand any chance of extinguishing all life from within the Traxis Sector?
Be sure to share your thoughts on this match in the comments, and enjoy!

Because today is a special occasion, here's giving a tremendous thank you to each and every one of you who has been a viewer or friend of mine at any point during the first 11 months of this channel's existence. Without the support and camaraderie of such an encouraging community, I would be leading a very different life - this game helps to give a sense of meaning and purpose to my existence, and our community provides me with a very welcome sense of belonging. So, thank you! Know that I look forward to continuing to produce videos for many more years to come <3
Having caught a detachment of Orks attempting to loot some of her vehicular Dark Eldar technology, Archon Salaine Morn (Mike Utenkov), has been filled with a wrathful fury! Will she be able to exact vengeance upon the audacious Gorzod (Christopher Dale Bates)? Or instead, will she be unable to stave off his hostile acquisition, and lose vitally important war materiel to the pillaging of greenskins? Be sure to find out in today's video, and enjoy!
Clearly, the Traxis Sector isn't big enough for both the Blood God *and* the Hive Mind, so let's pit Ba'ar Zul the Hate-Bound (Matt Dokos) up against Subject: Ω (Travis Lodes)! Will khornate chain axe prove superior to Genestealer rending claw? Or, is part of the reason why Ba'ar Zul is so angry in the first place perhaps because he's gone for so many years without a satisfying Gene Implantation?
I hope you enjoy this quickie of a match while I'm in the middle of ongoing midterm exams, and I look forward to returning my focus to Conquest soon!
The fifteenth episode of The Tyrantcast is live! Alongside returning guest host John Gobeil, Sam and I discuss:

- The latest Necrons faction card spoilers, including Nahumekh, Anrakyr the Traveller, Illuminor Szeras and all of their signature squads

- A trio of articles released by FFG Organized Play, including the controversial decision to implement intentional draws

- Alterations to the structure and contents of upcoming tournaments and their kits!

- Information about the Death World Cycle to be gleaned from the new FFG Instagram account

Be sure to check out the video description for timestamps, if that helps you to dissect this rather sizable installment, and I hope you enjoy our latest episode! Suggestions and feedback for how to improve the podcast are welcome. I wish you a good weekend, and take care!

For the first time in memory, my backlog of ready-to-post daily videos is utterly depleted! But, as I count down the minutes until I come across the free time needed to commentate games again, enjoy one last, spectacular, and lengthy, Tau-faction mirror match!
Which Commander is superior? Is it Shadowsun (Josh Bergstrom) or Starblaze (Mike Utenkov)? Will burst cannon win out over meltagun? Be sure to check out this video, and enjoy the rest of your weekend! I look forward to my triumphant return soon.

Today begins my coverage of the Spring 2016 season of Warmaster Sam Mann's Black Crusade, and marks my triumphant return to YouTube!

For the first time in over a week, I've finally sat down to commentate a game - so enjoy a rather engaging match pitting Packmaster Kith (Christopher Dale Bates) versus Aun'shi (Kevin Warrender).

Because of technical difficulties, week one of this 187 entrant tournament didn't have a featured match, but I'll be making up for lost time and opportunity soon. Since I've been away from video-making for so long, I ask you to please provide me with feedback and constructive criticism in the comments! What did you think about this game, and how can I change things as a commentator? How can I alter my style, and improve upon how I produce my content from here on out?

I'd like to provide our community with the most enjoyable viewing and listening material possible, so your comments are now more than ever appreciated. Enjoy today's game, and have a spectacular weekend! Kindest regards, and it feels great to be back.

Today, let's experiment with a new style of video - it's my spoken thought process and live "stream of consciousness" as I play out my first actual match of the Spring 2016 season of The Black Crusade! A total of 187 players have entered - do I stand any chance at taking the championship? Let's find out against my first opponent, the Tyranid "Old One Eye" (user DaGreenMachine)!

Feedback, criticism and suggestions are requested and encouraged for this new style of video. When speaking and explaining my actions, what did I do well, and what was informative and entertaining? More importantly, what could I do differently next time, to make this new kind of video more engaging and enlightening? Talking while playing wasn't too difficult for me to do despite being rusty, and if I were to get into the habit of filming this kind of video, it could ideally result in me playing a great many more games myself (and not just merely commentating others). So, please leave your thoughts and tips in the comments, and enjoy!

Suggestions on strategy and my gameplay are also invited, and I thank you for your time. Take care!

Thanks to the machine spirit blessing my players with technical difficulties, week one of the Spring 2016 season of The Black Crusade saw no featured match - so today, let's enjoy a second taken from week two! Reprising his role as one of his personal favorite warlords, Warmaster Sam Mann himself tests the might of Zarathur against Archon Salaine Morn (OCTGN user thedarkmess)!

After watching this video, do share your thoughts in the comments - what do you foresee being the competitive future of Dark Eldar and Chaos? Are either of these warlords Tier One, or need they cross their fingers for a new warlord in the Death World cycle?

Regardless, enjoy today's match, and take care!

As each Black Crusade progresses, the competition stands only to become increasingly fierce - and today, we have the honor of witnessing our runner-up 2015 World Champion in action! Having gone 2 wins 0 losses thus far into the league, will Seth Rosen bring glory to Urien Rakarth? Or, will Troy Nordine's Ku'gath Plaguefather serve as a staunch reminder that our second Dark Eldar warlord has yet to gather the tools he needs to establish himself as a real tournament threat?
If you like "edge of your seat" style back-and-forth games, then this match is for you! So enjoy, and be sure not to miss The Black Crusade's week three featured game!
For bonus points, let me know in the comments what you think Urien *and* Ku'gath each need to become considered genuine Tier One warlords.

Urien Rakarth versus Ku'gath Plaguefather - Warhammer 40,000: Conquest

Today, I present my week three match for The Black Crusade! It's another live, "stream of consciousness" style game - I read all of your feedback to my first attempt at such a video, and tried to improve my commentary accordingly. Pit against user kision314, can my Broderick Worr hope to best a contemporary, Space Marines heavy build of Commander Shadowsun? Or, will anti-Astra tech end up dismantling my deck?

I definitely recommend you find out, and as ever, do leave your feedback in the comments! Regarding strategy, what did I do wrong, and what would you have done differently? Regarding commentary, what did you enjoy, and what can I improve upon for next time? Ideally, this style of live video will result in my playing games much more often than ever I have before, and hopefully, both myself and my viewers will be entertained and informed in the process! Enjoy.

After several unfortunate delays, episode 16 of The Tyrantcast is finally LIVE! Enjoy over three hours of banter between The Hive Tyrant and Sam Mann, as we:
- Discuss the glut of spoilers for Legions of Death that have cropped up all over the community
- Provide our full review of The Final Gambit, the last war pack of the Planetfall cycle!
- Give a full overview and chat about the recent Lead Developer AMA on Reddit, which featured Brad Andres
AND, we reveal TWO exclusive new Necron faction cards!
This ended up being a hell of an episode, and I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as Sam and I enjoyed recording it.
Note that because of some technical difficulties on Sam's end, we unfortunately had to resort to using our "backup" quality audio track, but regardless, I hope you enjoy the episode!
I always welcome constructive criticism, and your feedback for how to improve the content *and* quality of The Tyrantcast would be much appreciated. Have a great weekend, and take care!

With no more than a mere handful of Necron cards remaining to be spoiled, and the retail release of Legions of Death being on the imminent horizon, what better time is there to take one final preview look at both of our upcoming new warlords?

Today, it's Anrakyr the Traveller (Guy Lev) versus Torquemada Coteaz (Travis McDaniel)! Do let me know in the comments - how would you have built Anrakyr yourself, and what would have been your strategy? And for Coteaz, is there any reason to divert our attention from Worr, in favor of this once seemingly abandoned warlord?

Do NOT miss today's video, and enjoy the rest of your weekend! Thank you so much for being you, my dear LCG community.

With the release of Legions of Death likely just over a week away, why not take one final preview look at our second new Necrons warlord? Don't miss a match placing a proxied Nahumekh (Guy Lev) versus a rather Daemon-focused Zarathur, High Sorcerer (Brian Kupcheck)! This ended up being a very unique game, and I hope you enjoy it. Thanks very much to my viewers, for humoring my proxying, and thanks also to my players for participating - because without them, these projects simply would not be possible.

Do let me know in the comments - what would you have done differently, as either player regarding strategy? Do you approve of how our Necron deck-built, and what would you have changed up yourself? Do you see Nahumekh rivaling Anrakyr the Traveller in power, or is he looking to be relegated to Tier Two? Your thoughts and perspective are appreciated, and take care!
