What theme to come next from FFG in the LCG format?

By radioboyeric, in Living Card Games

Robin,

there are a few hints on the timeline in the article, when they mention the Colonies. At least, something should be preserved. This said, I literally can't wait. Especially because it's FFG, so I sense we'll hopefully see much more of this setting coming in the future (boardgames, minis, RPGs, and so on)

Best news in a very long time :)

I wouldn't take anything in that article as gospel. It's really early in the process.

It's worth remembering that Star Wars was supposed to be a coop game, to the point of FFG having actual demo decks at GenCon.

Anything in the press release should be taken with a grain of salt.

I hope FFG can make a good L5R LCG. I have to say in the past I was satisfied with how they did the Call of Cthulhu game, but they had it that even before they changed it to the LCG format.

Cthulhu's always been a weird design for me. It's a decent game, but I never really felt the mechanics were that evocative of the source material. The art sure was, though.

Yup, I get what you're saying, my husband is still doing some sort of happiness tribal dance on the ceiling. Neighbors will probably call an exorcist in a few minutes if he doesn't stop, lol

As for my fave clan... I love many, but if I had to pick one, then it's Lion. What about you?

Spider Clan... Ever since they got great clan status after the destroyer war. and before that Mantis. (I have a soft spot for former minor clans ;) and before that...uh that's way back in the 90s...Unicorn.

But i'm Spider all the way now.

Traitor! :P Unicorn forever!

All will join the Spider! If not in life...then in (un)death! Bwahhahahaha! :D

I would not mind a couple more AEG properties, like 7th Sea, but in particular Warlord. Warlod(early) was the 2nd most fun game I ever played. This one TRULY feels like it would excel in a LCG model.

But yea, it is fantasy, so probably not for a while. 7Th Sea is different enough to warrant one though.

A friend of mind reached out to a contact at AEG and was told this deal is only for the L5R setting. 7th Sea isn't included.

AEG could remake 7th Sea and/or Warlord as an ECG*, like they did for Doomtown.

*AEG didn't want any legal dispute over the name LCG, so they use Expandable Card Game, but it's still a fixed distribution.

I could be wrong, but I thought Alderac has already sold those IPs.

AEG still owns 7th Sea.

The Doomtown setting is part of Deadlands, which is owned by Pinnacle (and there's a long and twisty history there), but the actual game of Doomtown is owned by AEG. It's not AEG's alone to sell, in any case.

I heard a rumor 7th Sea was sold but since its a dead IP, there was no announcement. Heresay of course.

Well, CoC is no more, making room for L5R.

I have no idea how long LotR intends to go on for, I haven't bought any new LotR stuff since the end of the third cycle so I am incredibly far behind right now.

Netrunner is going to last until at least 2019, when the 9th cycle is released and cycle 1 and 2 are removed from the market completely.

Genespin block ought to leave sometime in 2017, if memory serves?

But better than 7th sea is Battletech.

Absolutely yes!!!

I play SW, W40K:C, A:NR, AGoTv2, and will pick up L5R. I would love to see another co-op game where many play against the cards to win or some other format for more than 2 players.

Battle tech could allow multiple houses to work together and fight against each other in melee. What other licenses could offer a format that gives one on one and melee.

How about Transformers LCG?

Firstly you have 1vs1 with decepticons vs autobots, but you could also create automated encounter decks (LotR-style) to go up against big aspects such as Unicron, Omega-Supreme, Tripticons etc.

You could also develop combo decks for the combiner teams eg: constructicons/devastator and the other numerous ones.

Settings such as earth, space, cybertron, other planets. Plenty of characters, abilities etc.

Plenty of keyword groups (insecticons, dinobots, triple-changers) etc.

Lots to go at for co-op and vs

Just a thought :)

Co-op vs Unicron! Sweet!

TF has been so botched by Bay and become so convoluted that I would stay away just to avoid the flame wars. Now if you wanted to go back to the original Japanese Takara line Microman (where TF came from) Where the various races of Micromen fight to protect Earth and its environment from the Acroyers.

That's OK, TF was made of flamewar* way before Bay r*ped my childhood! Beastwars anyone? :)

How about we base it on the TF anime? (Victory, Zone, etc...)

* They even made a botcon exclusive toy named Flamewar once, go figure...

You could have a generic unicron core deck for coop and then release coop add-on scenario decks to be shuffled into the unicron deck (LotR style) to be able to release more coop variants.

Unicron attacks cybertron, unicron attacks earth, autobots and decepticons combine to hunt down unicron in space etc.

You could also have a non-coop unicron deck for 1vs3 play as a multiplayer option.

Different versions of characters: film, animated, comics etc

Lots of scope.

Imagine Soundwaves combo abilities with cassettes: search your deck and put into play 2 cassettes etc.

Id buy it all. Coop, multiplayer and 1vs1 all in one very broad package with about 30years of product/media history to cherry-pick from.

Abilities, weapons, transforms, lots of card abilities there! Even the characters have taken on roles of medics, engineers, weapons specialists, soldier, spy etc etc

Nice idea FFG??

How about having those 3 struggles from AGOT for a TF LCG?

Not familiar with GoT sorry. Sounds like you have an idea to build on though :)

There are 3: Military (kills guys) Intrigue (discard) and Power (victory points)

I just got an image of Starscream having this very high Intrigue stat becuz he's such a sneaky bastard. ;)

I feel like the focus of a TF game ought to be on the fighting, and of course the bots' ability to transform.

Yes would be good.

You could have alternate versions of cards for transformed mode, or a transform card to put alts into play, or flipable cards etc etc.

I am sure they could do it well.

I would not be interested in a TF LCG. I'll go back to suggesting Mad Max/post-apocalypse.
