Tales from the Fringe Anthology IC

By P-47 Thunderbolt, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire Beginner Game

Duncan slowly shook his head, Not sure.. nobody really knows.. She shows up, looking for someone, or was she waiting..? Anyway, all's people remember is feeling this.. dread.. Folks just sheltered till morning.. even the Imperials.. he shook as if chilled, despite the warm air. Strange, that.. not even them troopers were out.. and only that buzzing noise, her ship getting wrecked.. He indicated the bike, Managed to salvage one of her boosters.. small enough to fit the chassis... Most of it looked like a giant fist crushed the hull.. He waved towards the field. Those traders that could, left that morning, the rest had to wait on repairs or such.. Us locals have started to save up to make the move.. only problem is there ain't many places to go 'round here.

"Are people leaving the planet, or just the town?" Aleena asked. "And were there any other unusual arrivals in the same period?" What in the stars happened here?!?

"And what about Gala - did she just disappear during the same night?" she added.

Duncan shrugged, Anywhere they can.. at least long enough for this to blow over.. If it blows over.. This is a pretty busy trade hub for the sector, new arrivals all th' time, Who's Gal- oh.. was that her name? Yeah, the only one we know of..

"What about arrivals using neither the field nor the spaceport at the centre of town?" Aleena inquired.

Duncan shivered, Like the monster? Sure, I guess folks could land out there.. but why? Most are traders or have business in town, easier to just land in Poor Field, do business and leave. 'Sides, you'd have to walk both ways, unless you brought a speeder..

"So, did anyone actually see the monster or person who wrecked Gala's ship? Or hear anything that he - or Gala - said?" Aleena asked. "For that matter, could anyone describe his ship?"

Not that I know of..other than yer friend.. Duncan said. All she asked was if I knew people in th' Cantina.

"What was the timeline of events, then?" Aleena queried. "When did Gala arrive, when did she go to the Cantina or anywhere else, and when did her ship get wrecked?"

Duncan shrugged, She was here maybe a day or so before... well.. you know.... Anyway, other than that. not much to say...

Aleena felt a brush of rough fabric brush her as the Jawas passed. <Poncho lady stopped by a day later..>

Duncan turned, What about her?

<She looked at where Nice ladies ship was and left..>

The other Jawa nodded, <Been in bar every day. >

So we have a third player in this drama?

"Who's 'poncho lady', and where's the bar?" Aleena asked her three informants.

The Jawas exchange looks and shrug, <Lady wears a poncho..>

Duncan turns back to the bike and begins working. It's hard to miss, Other than the spaceport, it's the busiest place in town.

You also have the location in Gala's report

"Thank you so much!" Aleena told the three enthusiastically. "You've all been a great help to us."

She paused a moment, something niggling at her. Oh, yes. The astromech.

"It would be useful to locate Gala's astromech. I've been told that it's a C1 or variant, dark red with black trim?"

Duncan shook his head, Haven't seen it since that night..

Aleena gave a disappointed sigh.

"Well, I'd appreciate it you all kept your eyes open for it. It might have some relevant information for us. And again, thank you all for your time and help."

Duncan nodded as he worked, Good luck..

The Jawas waved as they went back to work pushing the repulsor full of scrap towards a section of yard that was loosely roped off.

Cadena hurries back down the slope, but slows and allows Barda to catch up. She's in less of a hurry to get back than she was to get there in the first place.

Aleena and Sienna are waiting for them a short ways from the entrance to the scrapyard. Sienna impatiently, Aleena less so. Seeing her sister's antsiness, Cadena deliberately slows to a walking pace as she gets closer. The two pairs compare notes and update each other, then start out for the cantina.

Sienna leads the way, reading the map and guiding them through the dusty streets. She gets distracted by the sight of a colorful bird, apparently native to Kiev, and almost misses a turn before Cadena grabs her by the shoulder and steers her back in the right direction. Sienna grunts sheepishly and returns to her map-reading. A short ways further, she sees a local man pull down a sheet of canvas to reveal an archway. Quickly comparing it to her map, she doesn't see either the arch or the path. But it looks like if it continues on, it would drop them out right next to the cantina. "Ooo, this is a shortcut. I think." Sienna quickly turns and sweeps towards it before anyone can object. Cadena sighs, remembering the last time Sienna tried to take a shortcut, but follows along.

The path does, in fact, turn out as Sienna predicted and they arrive just across the street from their destination. Seinna turns back towards the others and wrinkles her nose, "There, you see? Told you."

The cantina is a large block of a building about a story and a half tall. A weather-beaten awning stretches over outdoor seating, serviced by a sliding window. Stairs cut into the ground descend to the main entrance, giving the appearance that the building is half-buried in the dirt. Cadena passes the others in a couple quick, long strides before reaching the stairs, then walks down and hits the button to open the door. The mechanism groans for a moment, then grinds open to reveal more stairs continuing down and curving around the corner, gradually widening as they go. The walls are rough, seeming to have been cut out of rock.

When Cadea and Barda rejoined the group they all shared what details they had learned and decided to investigate this

Poncho Lady at the local cantina. Sienna consulted the maps provided by the local authorities and compared it to the coordinates in Gala's report. From what they could determine, the cantina was centrally located in the town and would take about half an hour to weave their way though the twisting streets. As they started their walk, Sienna noticed a local pull a piece of canvas away from the stone wall of a building, exposing an archway leading into a walkway. The man paused and let a group exit before he walked through, Sienna consulted the map again, but couldn't find the walkway on her map. She made the image larger and noticed that many of the building did show spaces between them and if that walkway followed those gaps, the path looked to end right next to the Cantina. and would cut their walk time significantly. She got the other's attention and lead them through the hidden access, and found themselves in relatively busy pedestrian traffic compared to the main street. The gaps between the buildings were bridged by more canvas or narrow planks... @P-47 Thunderbolt ninja'd me  :D

The air is cool with a little humidity, a welcome change from the warm arid air from outside. A bar runs along one wall, patrons occupy it, either seated in stools, or simply standing. The opposite wall has a stage where live music could be played but currently was empty. Along either wall, alcoves were cut into the rock face and furnished with either individual chairs and tables, or booths. Lines of conduit ran along the ceiling and parts of the walls to dim light panels and sconces providing just enough illumination to not bump into something. The central area of the space was furnished with simple chairs and tables spaced far enough from each other so people could maintain private conversations. In the dim light they can make out more patrons seated in the central area, the alcoves were more difficult to determine.

Crash peeks out from behind the others, then says, "No alarms have gone off yet... I am determined to take this as a positive sign."

Sienna walks into the large room and sighs happily. The cool, humid air in cave-like surroundings remind her of home. As she starts to scan the room, the menu catches her eye, "Cadena, they have Daro-root beer! I haven't tasted Daro-root beer in so long ." She sweeps off towards the bar, leaving her sister shaking her head. Cadena follows slowly, discretely examining the room. She can tell they are being watched, but she can't get a good look at any of the patrons doing the watching. She doesn't mind being watched, they are new in town after all, but not being able to see the watchers raises her hackles.

Barda strode into the cantina and headed directely to the bar, interested only in getting some beer after the long trek to the rock formation and back, the rock-climbing adventure itself, and following Sienna's sudden twists and turns going through town.

Aleena, on the other hand, stepped in and immediately felt exposed to possibly unwelcome stares as her eyes were slow to adjust to the dimness. Uncomfortably conscious of how she was outlined against the daylight streaming in through the doorway, she hurriedly moved to the side. As she did so, she felt a ghostly tap on her metaphorical shoulder. Someone was trying to get her attention through the Force.

From her spot beside the doorway, Aleena looked around. I wonder if the Force user happens to be the "poncho lady"?

Still feeling unhappy at being unable to identify the unknown Force user, Aleena seated herself at an empty table. Looking around, she waited for the bar-aimed Sienna and Barda to return with some drinks and for the uneasy-looking Cadena to sit down too.

Cadena takes the hint and sits down, tapping her fingers idly. Sienna returns with two large glasses, one of Daro-root beer and one of water. She slides the glass of water over to Cadena, who lacks interest in flavored beverages, especially the sorts that can impair the drinker or conceal substances one might not wish to consume.

Sienna smiles broadly as she takes her first sip, savoring the taste. Cadena, meanwhile, casts a critical eye over the glass of water, examining both the vessel and the contents for cleanliness before partaking.

Not knowing what the others might drink but wanting to share the pleasure of the local brew (or the misery if it turned out to be undrinkable), Barda ordered a jug of beer and four glasses.

As she waited, she turned around and saw that Aleena and Cadena had grabbed a table and that Sienna was already making a bee-line for the others with her own drinks. Barda shrugged to herself and took the filled order back to the table. If the worst comes to the worst, a jug of undrinkable beer can always be used in a bar-fight ...

Aleena took a deep breath - and then regretted it as a particularly odiferous customer passed by her chair. She coughed slightly, then looked up and around.

As if drawn by a spell, her eyes homed in on a figure sitting in the shadows of one of the alcoves. The unseen person was holding a bottle, and as Aleena's eyes landed on it, the bottle was raised in an informal salute. Aleena could see that the alcove contained a table with benches to both sides and either a chair or a third bench at the back, occupied by the mysterious figure.

"Sisters, I believe that someone is waiting for us in the alcove there," she said softly. "Let's re-locate for a conversation with that person ... who has 'magic' too, if I'm not mistaken."

Cadena guzzles the rest of her water, having decided that it meets her standards, then plunks the glass down on the table and stands up. Sienna carries her glass with her, not willing to part with it. "Interesting... I hope they're friendly." Cadena takes a deep breath, "If they aren't..."
