Yaimpar be te Bes'uliik IC

By P-47 Thunderbolt, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire Beginner Game

As the speeders head out, the Fang fighters take up an escort position as the Mandalorian in the front seat talks on a large transmitter, coordinating with the other forces. After about an hour, you see the camp. He pulls up to the other speeders and jumps out, Naz, head to the dugout next to the large tent, the others should be there. And with that, he rushes off towards the large tent. The other Mandalorians start to take up defensive positions and prime their weapons. There is a large landing pad near your position with a few Fang fighters being prepped for takeoff with a somewhat battle-scarred gray and green Kom'rk-class in the middle.

" You think this is that new base? " Naz asked, receiving a gentle nod of affirmation from Arde. He hadn't expected them to be so well equipped here, but then he supposed they needed to be if they were going to combat the Empire. Best to keep an ear out in case they hit during the mission briefing.

The concept still surprised him. Bring back the Bes'uliike. He wasn't even sure what that would entail or how to do that, and he barely had any experience with droids. Would they even be droids? Surely that would be the best way to do it. Like the ones the separatists had used.

Arde led them through the camp after where the Mandalorian in black and gold had run off to. As they got closer it was easy to make out the dugout, and they descended into it looking around. Not much of a fortification, but it was a newer resistance base after all. Arde seemed distracted by the soldiers running around nearby. Perhaps they'd be able to help fight off the Empire before getting to work on this mention. Naz knew his brother would like that.

" How many did you get? By the way? " Naz asked as they had reached where they'd been ordered into."

" Seven. Need another micro-rocket though. " Arde replied, looking around at the others in the tent.

" I'll see what I can do. "

Kebiin notices the two new comers enter the structure and nudges Tam with her elbow. I think the meeting is getting started..

Tam looks up from her datapad for a moment before typing a few last lines of code before saving the progress and putting it away. Is one of them smoking?

Kebiin notices that too, Must've been worse then what we went through...

Been through worse, ” Arde said, barely managing to hear the conversation as they entered the dugout. “ Isn’t over yet. Empire’s on its way here. ” He wondered if these were part of the forces here, or if they’d been summoned similar to his brother.

Kebiin waved to the newcomers, Su cuy'gar, gar gotabor?

Just then, the lieutenant returns, now clad in her full green and gold armor, not just the stripped-down version she used as a flight suit. She runs down into the dugout and moves swiftly around to the side of the table. She takes off her helmet and sets it on the table, revealing her piercing gray eyes and her pronounced stress lines, which in conjunction with her military bearing and disciplined movement gives you the perception of a hardened veteran who has seen more than her share of the fighting and of the losses. In spite of her rush, her demeanor brooks no nonsense.

As she begins speaking, you hear the roar of Fang fighters taking off and some hasty shouting outside the dugout.

Naz, we’re lucky you were part of that convoy. I’d tried to reach your clan, but we were being jammed. We’re out of time. All can give you is a very quick briefing. We called you for a mission that could save Mandalore. I don’t have to tell you, we are in pretty desperate straights. Kebiin, Tam, and Naz, you are to take Jurir Gotabor’e to Vorpa’ya. There are some mechanics there who are old friends of mine, they’ll tell you the rest. Your ship has been prepped and they have already plugged the coordinates into your navi-computer. Between you and them, there is a network of interdictors. You’ll have to run the blockade if you want to get out of here. Ner aliit has lain low on Vorpa’ya for some time, so the Empire doesn’t know to blockade it as well. She points at them menacingly, And I don’t want that to change. Nari ulyc. Tayli'bac?

Tam and Kebiin glance at each other in surprise. Vorpa'ya? Kebiin asked. We have ties there as well, so you can count on us to keep as low a profile as possible.

We taking our Komr'k? Tam asks. Good, w e have some things that we'd rather not leave laying around for any length of time...

Naz frowned beneath his helmet, a bit taken aback by the suddenness and vagueness of it all. “ I’ll need to stop by my workshop in the clan hold. There’s some tools there I couldn’t possibly replace. ” At least not without days of work. He’d made them himself after all.

Naz glanced at Arde then who was standing silently, just listening to the conversation. Running the blockade didn’t sound good, and if they were meant to keep a low profile it sounded like there was more danger to this then lieutenant was letting on. “ Are we expecting heavy opposition?

Cuyla. The Interdictors are escorted by some Star Dest- The black and gold armored Mandalorian rushes up to the door, Kyra! We've got company! Val staabi bat mhi! You hear the distinctive report of blaster cannons, the scream of TIE fighters, and the distinctive sounds of starfighters exploding, 1, 2… 3 fighters, you think. She flinches, as one of those didn’t sound like it was a TIE fighter, but springs into action. JII SLANAR! We can’t provide escort, you’ll have to go it alone! Ne’baatir mhi, mhi hukaatir gar tok’kad. She slams on her helmet as she rushes out of the dugout, PAR MANDALORE!

Arde is quick to follow, pulling out his blaster as he follows her out of the dugout. Naz isn’t too far behind, muttering under his breath as he draws his own scrambling to catch up with the two of them.

Firfeck! Tam swears, as she and Kebiin head towards their ship.

Kebiin slaps one of the other Engineer mando's shoulder and points to the Komr'k That's our ride, get your gear and get aboard!

As you rush towards Jurir Gotabor'e , you see ITTs moving up on the camp, with gunships following close behind as a secondary force flanks around, trying to cut off escape. Overhead, most of the fang squadron is tangling with the TIEs while on the ground, a couple squads of Mandalorians take to the air and fly to engage the transports. A TIE gets off a short strafing run, nearly hitting the Kom'rk, before being taken out by a friendly fighter who swoops back into the air. The ITTs begin to disgorge their troopers as they lay down some cover fire with their blaster cannons. One of the transports explodes as some of the airborne Mandalorians launch their missiles at it, but their are still several that are pinning down the defenders. Imperial super commandos take off from the gunships and move to engage the Mandalorians before they can take out any more of the troop transports. You notice that many of the larger speeders have been moved away from the front, but you don't see them.

Tam turned to Naz and Arde as they ran up the boarding ramp, Careful of the dead troopers on the deck, we didn't has time to strip their equipment, so they're a bit of a trip hazard at the moment. She said with a smile.

Kebiin dropped into the cockpit's pilots station and began her pretrip, flipping switches and glancing at the moniters flashing status diagrams. Everyone strap in, she yelled, I'll need coordinates to your base you two!

Naz looked over his shoulder as they boarded, glad to see Arde was still behind him. A few moments ago he’d been shooting up at some of the Imperial Super Commandos. Naz hadn’t stopped to see whether or not Arde had hit any of them as one of the TIE Fighters strafing runs sent a shower of dirt. He’d never heard so many explosions in his life.

When they asked for the coordinates, Arde rattled them off without missing a beat as he slammed his fist onto the button to close the boarding ramp. Naz almost thought he saw Arde give one of the dead troopers a kick as they jogged past. The two were quick to strap themselves in the troop bay, ready for takeoff.

As soon as Kebiin heard the coordinates and Tam's confirmation that they were strapped in, she lifted the ship in the air and pushed the throttle all the way forward. The inertial dampeners barely kept up with the g-forces as the ship surged forward at break-neck speed through the battlefield. The sound of the troopers armor sliding across the deck and crashing into the rear bulkhead echoed through the ship.. Oops.. Kebiin muttered, Sorry everyone, watch out for unsecured items!

S'ok ner'vod, Tam assured her with a grin, Their armor broke their fall..

Kebiin couldn't help but smile.

Arde wasn’t comfortable with leaving. It felt like cowardice to him, running out in the middle of a battle. The notion of rebuilding Bes’uliik for the fight didn’t appeal to him that much. From what he could remember, the Mandalorians had lost the last war they’d used them in. Of course there had been Jedi then, and the Empire was known for having brought an end to the Jedi.

Still, he couldn’t let his brother run off on this fools errand alone. They’d been a pair for years now, and Arde had to admit he wasn’t sure what he’d do without his brother’s technical expertise. His weapons would’ve probably fallen apart by now.

What’s our ETA? If the base falls, they’ll come after the clan holds next .” It wasn’t something he wanted to consider, but he’d never be able to forget what the Empire had done to the Protectors. They wouldn’t stop until the whole planet was either dead or enslaved.

As you swoop out over the camp, a couple TIEs try to break off to take out the escaping craft, but are shot down by the Fang fighters. The battle continues to rage in the front as the smaller, secondary force closes in from the back, goaded into attacking by the seemingly minimal defenses. When they get close enough, what looked like a large tent is pulled back to reveal the missing speeders, which promptly open up with mounted repeating blasters and auto-cannons, wreaking havoc in the Imperial lines and downing one of the gunships. The Mandalorians engaged out in front of the base, tangling with the Imperial supercommandos, start to retreat as the soldiers still inside the base cover them. The speeders in the back start to spread out, rapidly thinning the unprepared Imperial ranks. Without more of their heavier vehicles, they don't stand much chance of breaking the Mandalorians' lines. The soldiers inside the base begin to fall back toward the speeders, still firing at the Imperials.

Kebiin keeps the ship relatively low to the ground, using the terrain as cover as best she could. Alright vode, well get there in a couple of hours.. If you need to call ahead, now would be a good time.

Tam unbuckles her harness and heads to the back to secure the dead troopers. You both gotabor'se? She asks Arde and Naz as she stuffs the bodies between the wall and a cargo net. I'm Tam, that's my sister Kebiin up front.

Not needed. No one’s there, ” Arde replied. Everyone there had either come with them to fight the Empire or taken the children to go hide.

Naz was the first to speak up when they asked if they were engineers. “ I am I suppose. He’s not though. You can call me Naz, and he’s Arde. Were you told anything else, or just what we got in the dugout?

Tam shook her head, Nothing other than that initial briefing. She indicated herself and the cockpit, We're adopted... she paused, a sad little smile crept across her face, Moreso, in my case.. she murmures, before looking back at them.. Anyway... we don't have a deep knowledge of the bes'uliik, other then legends and generic descriptions. Semi sentient droid shaped like some sort of beast.

Tam tightened the adjustment straps, and gave the bundle a tug, making sure it wouldn't come loose.

Did you get anything other than what she said? Tam asked.

Not really, no ,” Naz replied, frowning beneath his helm. “ I’m not even that sure why they’d want me. I’m good with weaponry, but I’ve barely worked on starships or speeders, and almost never on droids. Don’t really know anything about the Bes’uliik either.

They were more then just droids, ” Arde chimed in time Naz’s surprise. His brother wasn’t usually very talkative. “ They were machines of war. Armed to the teeth, with droid brains that let them bond with a rider. For the Neo-Crusaders, they were as deadly as an AT-ST is for the Empire, but with a Mandalorian for a rider. They were modeled after a lizard species our ancestors conquered. They’re only in museums now. Modern star fighters and weaponry rendered most of them obsolete .”

Naz sat silently for a moment, contemplating what his brother had said. “ Didn’t expect you to know so much.”

Arde merely shrugged, leaning back in his seat. “ I wasn’t adopted .”

Tam barked a laugh, I like you! She again indicated herself and her sister, Maybe that's why they brought us in.. We've been tinkering around with machines since we were kids. I started to specialize in droids and my sister really gets into ships and stuff. She sat back on her heels, looking deep in thought.. I guess Keb'ika an I could make a ship sized war droid.. she said with a shrug, The Separatist Alliance had the Vultures during the Clone Wars.. she absently pulled out her datapad and began typing.. the design wasn't bad, but they weren't clever like us.. mmm, Mirdala ad'ika... she murmured to herself.. softly whispering what sounded like a name.

Naz pondered the concept. He wasn’t sure how well he’d do working with others, but it couldn’t be that hard to design weapons for a starship sized droid.

Arde seemed to have settled in for the ride, but Naz began pondering what weaponry he could stuff into a starship sized war droid. It would need laser cannons, obviously, but what about . . . .

A couple hours later, the hastily abandoned hold of Clan Skirata came into view. Kebiin set down Jurir Gotabor'e in an open area within its confines. By now it is starting to get dark, and a chilled wind is sweeping the plains.
