Okay, going to ask a couple of questions, and I'd like answers from everybody. Try to think of the simplest, briefest answers possible, as this is just so I can get some ideas:

  • What is it that you feel like your character does best? What is their focus? In an encounter, what do they offer? Considered this both from a mechanical and a narrative angle.
  • On the flip side, what do you think is your character's biggest weakness or shortcoming?
  • What advancements or prizes would you like your character to receive? What is it that they would want?

1) Mechanically, Zik is a buffer, in keeping with his role as a teacher. He can help someone after a failed check, share his ranks in Discipline, and even share his Force rating with others. His only Force power (as of yet) allows him to improve his allies' ability scores (though I may try to see if I can squeeze in Foresee, too, if our Mentor discount allows it). Narratively, Zik is a storyteller through and through, comfortable in front of a crowd, and able to Charm and Lead as a teacher to students. I'm guessing he will be the party Face, although he's not as focused in this arena as a Politico or Performer would be.

2) Zik isn't completely useless in a fight, but he's not a combat specialist either. He can buff his allies, but he's no heavy hitter (nor can he take much punishment). Narratively, he tries to avoid combat, and when he must resort to violence, he never kills a sentient being. He can be sanctimonious at times, which others might find off-putting.

3) Zik cares little for material possessions, although the ugliness he's faced on Garuu has convinced him that a Superior light-weight armor would be helpful. Above all, though, he wants to become better attuned to the mysteries of the ancestors (his understanding of the Force), which would entail more and deeper Force knowledge (both mechanically and narratively). He'd jump at the chance to trade folktales with a storyteller or sage from a different culture. Ultimately, though, he dreams of the day he can return to Chalacta to be with his tribe.

1.) Mechanically Bralane is very competent in a fight, but also has solid de-buffing skills with Improved Terrify. Narratively she is very brave and would always be willing to take a blow for a friend.

2.) On the flip side Bralane has a hard time understanding the better part of valor, and often interprets running away as 'cowardly'. She is impetuous and wants to see those who hurt others punished. Mechanically she is basically all offense, and would get shredded pretty badly by a lightsaber wielding opponent as she has no rank of parry. And there is also that whole 'flirting with the Dark Side' thing she needs to really be careful about.

3.) Well more XP is always fun as I have lots of talents and skills I want to buy! ;p And there is always better equipment to get, especially armor. But I think Bralane would really like to just find a place to fit in that isn't always so mean to those that live there. Perhaps a chance to truly make a difference and know others lives are better as a result.

1) While she's skilled with a blade, there are many sword-arms in this group. What Takane provides is determination and dedication to any cause that she takes up. When she's decided that something is right and honorable to do, she will see it through to the end, regardless of the consequences to her.

2) In a quite related fashion, her biggest weakness is also that same dedication to justice. If she feels as though she's been tricked, or when she encounters situations that don't fall clearly into her definitions of right and wrong, she may freeze, lock up, or even get angry and lash out. Grey areas are tough for her, and can cause her to falter.

3) She is high-minded in a very narrow fashion. That is, she wants universal justice, peace, and other high ideals, but she doesn't actually know how one would go about achieving them, or even what they would really look like. Spiritually, she yearns for greater understanding and a wider perspective, but she doesn't know how to get it, or really that that's what she actually needs.

Surprisingly, something that would do her well is if her grandfather's sword were to be destroyed (in a suitably dramatic moment), so that she has to start her spiritual journey, and realize that fighting is not the only way to achieve her goals. Also, things that push her, make her think and force her to face the fact that the Galaxy is not black and white are things she needs. Now, she might not actually want those things, but they're things she needs :) . As far as tangible rewards, being able to see that her actions have had a positive effect on those around her. She actually doesn't really...want much in the way of physical stuff. What I want for her is spiritual growth and development, which is mostly handled through story beats.

Crap, reading this reminded me I forgot to come up with Motivation and Strength/Weakness. Grrr, must remember to do that when I get home.

Your party Mystic, doing her job :P !

Well the Motivation is easy, Redemption, the background pretty much writes that one. Have to come up with the Str/Weak thing though. Been a while since I've looked at that chart. Though I might check the Guardian specific book too. Might find a fun pairing.

Good, excellent. Thanks. I might try and post the IC thread tomorrow, but I'm usually busy most Wednesday evenings. Tomorrow afternoon (my time) or Thursday. This Saturday and most of next weekend will be busy for me, though, so those days probably won't see anything.

Also, when I post IC, I'll post it in regular text like this...

Quote

...and any mechanical information, such as ' make a skill check ' or ' suffer 2 strain ' will be posted in a quote box like this.

Likewise, when you post IC, post it regular text...

Quote

...then indicate what you may want to do, such as ' can I make a Knowledge check? ' or ' activating a talent ' in a quote box. If you can't use the quote boxes, separating it with ---- is also fine.

You can then post any dice rolls or describe more complex mechanics in this thread.

Hopefully, this will help to make sure nobody misses any requests or details.

I'll post the mentor description here.

Baak Harrema

To most the known galaxy, Baak Harrema is married to the Imperial Governor of Garuu, a small, insignificant Outer Rim world. A human male in his mid 50s, Harrema isn't particularly extraordinary--he was the owner of a small scale Outer Rim shipping company before getting married, whereupon he sold the company for a tidy profit and went into retirement. Most who know of him know he likes the retired life, spending his days enjoying his modest wealth, whether it be theater, hunting, touring the occasional exotic world, and sports, among other luxuries. He seems content to stay well out of the public eye, avoids politics, and seems utterly unremarkable

Unknown to most of the galaxy, however, is that Harrema is Force-sensitive, and well aware of it. He uses his wealth, connections, position, and obscurity in his aid to help other Force adepts both in finding their way in life and to avoid discovery by the Empire. His teaching methods are very hands-off, preferring to impart his (considerable) knowledge in hints and pointers to let potential students to learn on their own. Was he a Jedi or a member of some other Force order? It seems nobody but Harrema knows for sure.

I'll be getting the first IC post up ASAP.

Hey, you also might want to purchase a thermal cloak with your starting credits. Just a suggestion.

THIS IS GOING WELL GUYS

@BlackHawk666 , did you decide on the benefit we get for having our Mentor? If I can spare the XP, I wanted to buy the first Range upgrade for Imbue.

Buying the cloak.

Oh, and 1 Light Side. :)

Woot, woot

Oooo. Thermal Cloak.

Edited by SebastianArrow

Destiny pool is 7D/2L.

I will also be purchasing a thermal cloak and some basic supplies, I just don't have my book in front of my right now to take down the costs.

Assuming I have (and have paid for) the following, and I'll mark it down when I get home this evening:

Thermal cloak, approx. 10 ration packs, a basic comlink, 2-3 Stimpacks, some general outdoor gear TBD.

All this stuff is what the duffel is for :)
