2 Sisters of Battle Looking for a play by post Game

I'd like to keep specialist talents as they are, they are special for a reason.

But I'll propose on the aptitudes issue by saying if you get the willpower aptitude twice in character creation this will substitue for the psyker aptitude for willpower advancement.

The pay off of course being that you lose out on another caracteristic app for cheaper Will since it wont be substituted.

Sound agreeable?

That sounds good to me.

Also, Witch Hunter Balthazar Thorne stands ready to serve the Emperor!

I went with a Shrine World Ministorum Crusader. I'll primarily be a social character, but I will also have some knowledge skills and melee combat ability. Crusaders get a really strange combination of Aptitudes (Knowledge, Offence, Strength, Toughness and Willpower), and while I risk spreading my experience too thinly across multiple specializations the class looks like a lot of fun to play. I'll work on a more detailed backstory for the character in the days to come.

Dang. Should I go back and make my character a Fanatic so she can double up on the WP Aptitude?

Edit: I don't think I will, since I will lose out on the BS and Defense Aptitudes, without the BS aptitude I would have 0 aptitudes for Ballistic Skill Characteristic Advances, which is no good since I plan on doing a ton of shooting.

I will consider characters malleable until we get Lyns character in so get in any changes beforehand.

Will do! Oh, I guess I should check in and ask if you are OK with my 3 allowed requisitions of items of Scarce availability or better:

Laspistol (so I have 2 to dual-wield)

Flak Armour (for the extra protection, and so I have armour on the head, and because I'm going to be wearing Power Armour at some point, so I might as well get used to how it feels to fight in armour)

Devotional Iconography armour upgraded from Enemies Within - it gives a +10 to Command tests on followers of the creed, and -10 Fel with non-believers heretics (I already imagined her having a big Adeptus Ministorum logo on her breastplate)

And note that the appearance and mementos I have are ones I chose, they are not random.

Sure let me know World, Background, and Role and I'll do it tomorrow.

Oh, ****. I wouldn't want to nail it down until I can compare all possible effects in the books, which I do not have access to atm. I guess it can wait a few days ... or you just roll a couple d10's and I'll add the +X later. :D

I don't think you can parry with a ranged weapon, unless it has a melee attachment. Or maybe it is that you can't parry with a non Basic weapon? I'm not sure I'll have to look into it if you don't find it yourself.

I was sure you couldn't parry with a pistol because I actually wrote a "Seraphim gun-kata" homerule for my take on Battle Sisters in Deathwatch. ;)

Then again, if the book says you can parry even with improvised weapons, and you certainly could use a pistol as an improvised weapon, ... (maybe just allow it with a -10?)

Hum. I'm going to wait on Lynata's input on the Jaded talent. I'm taking it for now, but if she feels it doesn't fit thematically, I may change it out for something else.

It certainly does fit.

After reading what they do in the 6E Tempestus Codex, I think every Schola Progenum graduate should come with "Jaded" by default. :P

Awesome! I won't be surprised if this campaign gets rolling before that DW campaign starts, even though the out of character thread for that one was started weeks ago (grumble grumble). I'm looking forward to both!

And Weasels, I like that we are going to have a character in his forties in the group! Should be interesting.

That's fine, like I said later, I expect to have characters done by the end of next week honestly since you are on a trip, so there's no rush. I'd rather you get all the options looked at that you want to and feel comfortable with your choices.

We resolved the Parry thing a little below that, unless you were just quoting it for the funny.

I guess I should check in and ask if you are OK with my 3 allowed requisitions of items of Scarce availability or better:

If they are Scarce then they are fine in the book.

Don't forget to do your Influence roll to see if you get a better item as well.

Sounds like fun, take your time. We've got a bit so far. I'll check out your character tomorrow when I get home from work.

Oh yes!

We'd just need a third Sister, then we could call ourselves Balthazar's Angels. :P

Ah! I must have missed that line. But hey, if it was funny ... :D

I've seen this one before. Not super into the faces they are making, especially the one licking her lips (I refer you to all the issues I have with the sexualization of Sisters), although I grant this is rather innocent.

I don't know . . . so much Sisters art seems to be drawn so that the focus seems to be how attractive the Sisters are, if that makes any sense.

I thought I had seen a color version of that immage, but I'm not seeing it, but I did see this one again, which I think is a little funny (probably enjoying herself a little more than she should, she probably needs to do some meditation on purity and the Emperor's will, if that's the face she makes when she kills heretics):

For reference, the link below is for a great thread with tons and tons of Sisters art. This image came from page 43 (of 49).

Alright, just reiterating the things we've discovered or determined so far about rules and minor house rules.

Character gen. Point buy start at 25.

Max fate threshold is 5 max wounds are 25.

If Possible, allow me the indulgence of using my expanded Divination table (Found in my sig)

-On that table when you roll a result you may take the opposite of your roll as your result as well (92 is a 29 for example)

Anyone playing a Sororitas member is to roll on the Orphan Past table from DH1's Schola Progenium Homeworld IH p.20

You can seemingly Parry with a pistol, but when counterattacking with the Pistol you are not firing the weapon.

You are beating them with the handle of the gun as an improvised weapon (at least I think that's what pistols are when you use them in melee).

Characters are malleable until Lyn gets a character finalized

And just to remind myself, some things I need to work on/get done when I get home:

-Finish adding Weasels replies to the Inquisitor Questionnaire that I posted

- look back into 1E and see if there isn't an order within the Calaxis Sector that they might have recruited a bit closer from.

- look into seeing if there is a jump pack. (Specifically in 2E and work my way backwards for conversion purposes)

-Upgrade Dante's NPC sister from 1E to 2E (Including figuring out the Reinforcement Cost if Possible)

-If Dante hasn't gotten to it read and explain the Influence Acquisition roll at character creation.

Wait, what? Could you explain this?

I can't remember where it speaks about it, but you can roll against your starting influence for the acquisition of an item of a higher Rarity. There's a limit to the rarity you can try to roll against and you only get one roll.

I don't have the book with me right now so I can't help more than that currently.

Edited by ThenDoctor

I'll try looking for it, or at least familiarize myself with the general procedure for acquisition rolls.

One might say I'm looking for the "Rules of Acquisition" :P

That is, if you get the reference.

Boo, Dante I say boo.

Hmm, trying to figure out a good way to post images to the forums.

Thinking of taking a picture of a battle map, and then marking the movements on the map based on descriptions within the posts.

Then reupload the modified map after each full rotation of combat (Each run through of Initiative)

But I'm not sure if that'd be even worth attempting, so I'd like your input on the idea, and some explanation on how to upload to this site. Is there a size limit as well? I've heard some conflicting things.

That sounds like a lot of work on your part, but it does sound cool!

As for uploading, since I already had an account on the Bolter and Chainsword when I made this account, I've just been using the gallery function over there, then when I want to post an image, I copy the image location and use the image tool in the toolbar when typing up my post. You can do that regardless of where you upload your image to, of course.

It might be, and I might abandon the idea. It really depends on how fast combat posts get out, from what I've experienced, they take a while to work though.

The idea is completely up to being abandoned.

I see, yeah I'm looking into different sites that host images. I'd rather keep it anonymous if possible, but might have to end up making an account somewhere.

I heard Imgur lets you host Anonymously but I don't know if there's a time limit to how long the image lasts.

There is an Astartes jump pack in the Deathwatch rulebook, and I imagine a human-sized jump pack such as those used by Seraphim would be functionally identical. It provides the following benefits:

  • Make a controlled fall from any height without suffering falling damage.
  • Use short jumps to move at twice your regular move speed, but you must end your movement on the ground.
  • Gain the Flyer (12) trait for up to a minute, after which the turbines require a minute to cool.

In DH2e, I would say that players require Operate (Aeronautica) to use the jump pack effectively.

I remember the Deathwatch one. I thought there might be one in DH1, but yeah. Just looking around for it.

I by no means have to worry about it for a while, but always good to have something to work on to keep you focused.

EDIT

Well found some sources to look at (just need to double check DH2)

Dark Heresy: Blood of Martyrs (RPG), pp. 86, 121

Deathwatch: Core Rulebook (RPG), pp. 72-74

Only War: Shield of Humanity (RPG), pg. 131

Rogue Trader: Core Rulebook (RPG), pp. 144-145

Any chance we can just adapt the one from 1E, since I would assume it was meant for Seraphim? The DW once sounds fine too

As for a skill, the IH AS career includes the Pilot (Jump Pack) skill, so maybe Operate (Jump Pack), since I think of it as a slightly different set of abilities than flying a plane.

I'll look at all of the examples, but see what got improved or removed from the different iterations and make a call.

But I'll very likely use the BoM one as a base as it likely is for Seraphim.

I think I'll probably put it under the same skillset as what you use to operate a grav chute in OW, but I 'm not sure if they gave it it's own skill.

It'll get figured out.

Weasels, any burning concerns or questions so far? I know me and Dante have been eating up most of the space.

Edited by ThenDoctor

Not particularly, I'll speak up if I do have questions though :)

Ok, well so far it seems like we are pretty solid right now except the extra influence roll thing for character creation and then waiting for Lyn to get back from their trip so they can make a character.

I know it was mentioned earlier that we want to look into Psykers and perversions of the imperial creed.

Anything else sparking off that that we might be looking to involve ourselves with?

I'd like to get a taste of all levels of an imperial give city. Doesn't have to be all at once, but I would love to see the underhives and the tallest spires!
