Atom4geVampire, the campaign tracker you made is just great. It is a very helpful tool. For my job I am travelling quite a lot and I am having groups with different colleagues and with the tracker I found a way to handle this, other than keeping all the small cards in small bags - for every player and hero. The and appearance is as well very nice. Thank you very much.
Unofficial Campaign Tracker for Descent!
Just wanted to let you know that I wasn't able to update the site yesterday, will do it after work today. Sorry for the delay
A bug that I've found is that most of the lieutenant plot decks aren't registering the threat cost to play plot cards. Love the site keep up the great work.
Where exactly?
Where exactly?
All overlord plot decks above "raging infection" when you look at their specific plot cards the trigger costs for all cards are set to 0.
Oh yeah That's just a theming bug. The cost is set correctly in the database but other than this visual indication, it's not used anywhere. (So it's not a critical issue)
I'll fix it when I have the time.
I've deployed the update by the way
I'm playing heirs of blood and put in the intro encounter results and am ready to push start n...... it's a blue button but when I push it, nothing happens. Also having trouble adding the correct threat, I knocked out a hero. Thanks, sorry.
This is now fixed as well!
Also, the open group for hearts of the wild was fixed
Edited by Atom4geVampireI've just updated the site again. Mostly visual improvements.
I've also added the images for the bonds of the wild heroes.
Atom4geVampire, does your DB is already designed for Multi Languages ..
In short do you plan to have your site translated to some other languages ?
Not really, but it could be doable I think.
What languages would you like to have available?
I was thinking of French!..
... but could be any language in which Descent V2 has been translated to : German, Spanish, Italian, ...
Indeed for thoses having a localised version of Descent either they don't understand English or it's easier to match the names of the components with their own language than trying to translate from english as probably they have never seen the English version.
But by experience even if it's doable, if now plannend from start in the DB this could be a huge project... ;-)
Well, I don't know how thats usually done, but an extra database table that has rows for each translation and columns with the translation for each language, then loading that based on language to override the english doesn't seems so difficult.
I'd just need someone per language that delivers all translations to me
If you don't have images with text it's already a good thing !
then you will have to create one extra table for each one of your tables which has text, unless you have all in one table but this seems unprobable ! ;-)
and adapt all the SQL accordingly.
And if you want to make your site fully multi-language.. don't forget the "display"/"common" text like "Heroes", "New Group" or the register page !
But it's your program you know better than me what's difficult or not ! ;-)
Thinking about it, probably it needs some more approval by FFG and / or the local companies who have the translation rights ?...
I will ask for French and if all is OK I will be able to give you French Input !
Yeah, I was looking at it at the moment and I guess most of the work would be going through all files/pages and replacing static text with a variable that allows for translation from the database. Seems doable
Then its as you say, just adding an extra table for all the information tables (heroes/skills/items/travel/..) and loading that correctly.
The official FFG answer was ' 3. Limited use of game material: Please only use as much imagery or text that is necessary for your creation to function.' I assume this also covers the same text in other languages, in order to make it function in other languages
yes names monsters/heroes etc are translated
Ok, actually this seems 'easier' then expected
I just wrote a small translation function I can add to the site where needed (Just tried it on the monster names) and it seems to be working just fine.
I really just need all translations, thats the hard part
I was using this http://descentv2.fr.cr/category/seigneur-du-mal/monstres/ for my test, but the problem is that all names are singular, but my site uses the plural. So for some of them I can guess the correct plural with my limited knowledge of french, but I really need an actual french person to do it
Edited by Atom4geVampireI have send an inquiry to the French editor regarding the translation of your site.. if they have the same point of view as FFG I will send you the data.
Well, if sites like the above are allowed to exists, I don't see why it would be a problem
I don't either but always better to ask...
we never know if there is something like StarWars Edge of the Empire, were we can have all the class trees in pdf but the ones with the Force powers !?
We'll I already started implementing it, so they'd better approve it!
Still, if they don't allow it then all the other custom text on the site will at least be translatable.
By the way, just out of curiosity: I know the French like to translate everything (often into silly things, like certain movie titles and such), so why no translation for 'Sir', 'Lord' and 'Lady' Farrow?

Do they just say the name "Alric Farrow" without the "Sir"? There is no litteral translation anyway, because the English "Sir" or "Lord" (not sure about "Lady") refers to a particular class system in the UK. But I would have thought it didn't have any importance when used to qualify characters in a fantasy world. At worst they could have used the same words as they are very likely in the French dictionary as well. Otherwise any feodal title would have made the cut in my reckoning.
Edited by IndalecioOh, right! I guess that makes sense.
It was just something I noticed when I was browsing through the french heroes and coming across stuff like 'Jain Bois Juste' and 'Ulma Tristepierre' which makes me chuckle.
I guess that with the english names I don't have the reflex to try and translate their names to dutch (my native language), but I do when reading them in french and they just sound silly
It has the Sir, Lord and Lady as seen below. So there isn't some French class system they could have adapted?
Big thanks for making this tool! Very handy. I'm a user experience designer in my dayjob so if you have any part that you want me to have a look at, I would be more than willing to help out.

What! French do such things ?? Nooo.. you are probably wrong ..
they whould never try to translate lets say Chewbacca for example to something like (once translated back) "Chewing tobbaco" .. N ooo oo o...
......
...well in fact yes they did it !?!??
But only on the first StarWars (episode IV) .. after they used Chewie and Chewbacca !!?
Heu ... I don't see anything silly !!! having the same caracter having different names depending on the episode : it is totaly normal .. no ??!!
but they don't this to all caracters ! for example, always on the StarWars films : Luke is always "Skywalker" (not translated) in all the saga !!
So for the "Sir", "Lady", ... don't try to find a logic! but if there is one, probably what Indalecio pointed is the closer to the answer...

From my understanding.
When someone buys a game, most of the times he uses the language of the box! Even if it's not is native language. Because it's the only reference he has! So he will use the titles and the wording of the box without trying to translate them.
Add to that, the fact that there is no translation of the game on the market for your native language (like for ducht, portuguese and a lot of other languages !)!
There is nothing to compare with, so no need to translate it, no reflex!
Now for the languages were the game has been translated, the people who boughts them are using their native language, it becomes their reference, most of the time they didn't even know/notice that the game exists on other languages, as you don't have the reflex to translate to your native language they don't have the reflex to translate to the origanal language of the game!
Of course when people understanding both the translated language and the original language compare the result there is always some smilings.. and probaby there is some more smilings when the French is involved!
About the "Sir", "Lady", "Lord", it's something very British... not sure if equivalents titles exist somewhere else ... but these titles are well know in France, and sometimes used as a mark of deference.
But again don't try to find a logic...
French as many rules and for each of them there is what they call " l'exception qui confirme la règle " : " the exception that proves the rule " !
Big thanks for making this tool! Very handy. I'm a user experience designer in my dayjob so if you have any part that you want me to have a look at, I would be more than willing to help out.
That would be appreciated! I don't have anything specific, I would just suggest you let me know if you come across anything that could be improved.
I'm aware it's a bit lacking UX wise in some areas.
I just had a problem in the campaign tracker, in the travel steps.
I wanted to add the step "bandits in the forest". Here the heroes got no item. But when clicking "update" it wont go on. I had to work around this by adding "no event" as an substitution.
