MacrossVF1s corner of paint and plasticard

By MacrossVF1, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

Is there a FFG Face Book page?

I think he refers to the 'X-Wing Miniatures Mods and Repaints (Armada and IA too)' group. I post my work there as well.

Forgot this earlier. Some comparison pictures for your enjoyment.

I did not realize just how big that thing is.

After seeing both of your scratchbuilds I've fallen in love with the design. Now I want one! Haha. Maybe once I'm more confident with my painting skills I'll start working on my plasticard skills and see what I can come up with!.

AMAZING work as always, MacrossVF1! I always enjoy your work. :)

It is indeed rather big, especially as an epic ship. However having built the ship in two scales, I'm fairly confident its supposed length of 82 metres is wrong as the proportions, especially around the bridge, doesn't seem quite correct in its larger form.

Are those some GW books in the corner there? Heavy Metal, perhaps?

Hey Ken,

Finally got a chance to look in on your progress.

And looking absolutely fantastic !

Your new scratch build is a piece of Artwork !

always love looking in on your work.

and its always a visual pleasure :D

Take care and all the best,

Barry.

I've had time to paint one of my own ships for a change.

I call this the Muscle Firespray as I was inspired by American muscle cars when I painted it.

That is a nice clean paint scheme.

It's not easy to find original ways to paint X-Wing ships these days, but this is really nice.

Must be a good feeling to paint one of your own for a change.

Saw that on facebook today, man that 31 looks awesome.. I keep thinking .. why didn't I think of a solid color and a stripe.. lol.. excellent work as always..

edit

am I the only one that uses the domes on the ends of the fins for running lights.. lol.. just seemed natural to me.. ex sailor and all..

That is seriously bad ass!! As soon as I saw it it screamed Camaro at me. Then I actually read what you wrote. Certainly got that message through to me at least. :D

It is a thing of beauty.

Would you mind telling how you got the stipes so perfectly straight? I always have a problem with the edges.

After priming the ship I airbrushed the white that would form the stripes. I then masked off the front and airbrushed the blue colour. Of course masking tape isn't always the most flexible and the surface in question is not 100% smooth so there were quite a bit of blue that had sneaked under the tape. However since most of the white were untouched I basically had an excellent guide to follow when I painted more white to clean up the overspray.

I have finally combined two important parts of my life into one. The X-1S - 'Skull One'. Or, how a T-70 would have looked if Roy Fokker of Robotech/Macross fame had piloted one.

Meet the Fokker!!!

That is a REALLY nice repaint!

It's SO GOOD! Augh, I could **** near die happy if the rest of the notable Veritech Fighter pilots got their own repaints, my goodness.

I'm actually planning to paint two of my unpainted (as of yet) Zeds as Max and Miriya or Ben. Rick's VF-1J would actually be a rather boring paintjob, the white with red stripes wouldn't be that much different from a Rouge Squadron X-wing.

Whilst not being familiar with your source material for the scheme .. I love it. It is unique, crisp and eye catching. Well done.

It's from a cartoon that I used to watch on TV back when I was a kid. Below is the fighter form of the three-form Veritech fighter, specifically Skull leader.

Outstanding work, Macross!

Here's a link which shows the transformation between all three Veritech modes from 0:44 - 0:58.

What game is the screenshot from?

Actually the aircraft in the picture are F-14 Tomcats, though painted as Roy's and Rick's Veritechs. Of course the VF-1 veritech is clearly inspired by the F-14 so it's not much of a mistake.

Here's the decent picture of the source model:

Thanks for the correction!

I just googled veritech skull leader, and that was the best pic of the bunch. I haven't watched Battletech Robotech in about 35 years, and I'm not a huge military buff, so I hope everyone can forgive my mistake. ;)

P.S. Yes, I know it's officially called Macross, but when I was a kid, it was called Battletech Robotech.

EDIT: Correction made due to costi's post below.

You mean Robotech. Battletech is another thing entirely.

Thanks for the explanation. I knew of the anime .. I've just never watched it, was familiar with the characters, design, etc. Anime has never really been my jam (and I lived in Japan for 5 years).

Regardless of my preferences re anime, the paint job of the T-60 is stunning. It is unique to our game yet clearly pays homage to the anime fighter without being a direct replica. As the Japanese would say ... すごい!!
