STAR WARS: REBELS Discussion Thread!

On the one hand I am extremely happy to finally see the Sentinal getting some love. But they screwed up the wings, but I can accept that as part of art design for the show. The size looks off, it is after all suppose to be able to carry two full platoons of Stormtroopers. That one looks like it can barely carry a squad. The boarding ramp is wrong, the ramps are on the sides not in the middle. They tried too hard to make it look like a Lambda.

I've done some thinking, and I'm actually pretty sure it isn't a Sentinel Landing Craft. If it is one, it's a redesign- A redesign I absolutely adore the living hell out of. But upon further inspection...

Nu-class_shuttle_landed.jpg

Well, I see a lot more resemblance to this, actually. Similar armament in the same spots, cockpit-to-boarding-ramp relation is about the same, so on and so forth.

Also they can't really get the Sentinel wrong. We've only seen it once with low detail in a flyby, details fairly well obscured. But still, I think this is actually an inbetween of the Nu and the Sentinel. In the end, however...

This craft much more fits with the Imperial Modus Operandi of using more, smaller craft that are less expensive, to field their forces. If you load up four of these and two sentinels with the exact same armament, you have the issue of what's lost at one time.

If one of two sentinels is lost, you've just lost two platoons of stormtroopers and several speederbikes, on top of a heavily armed and probably very sluggish transport. It's also incredibly expensive. That 240,000 price tag is hooey. Two pairs of turbolasers in addition to four laser cannons, an ion cannon, I think a chin mounted gun for clearing LZs, and all the generators to power that crap, in addition to the fuel cost?

Holy sh*t.

This thing? Economic solution. Looks way less expensive, and if one of them gets shot down, you still have 75% of your forces, rather than 50%, and it's just that much easier to replace it all, too.

As a caveat, the Sentinel Shuttle might have actually been developed as a response to heavier-armed insurgents who dropped these out of the sky.

I personally really like this one though. It has that same imperial overbearing presence, but with an air of utility to it as well. If you ask me, very very nice stuff.

As with the different looks of the TIE Fighters and Star Destroyers I look at the shuttle that is shown in the episode as a interim class of craft, developed from the Sentinel class, that will become the Alabaster Space Whale.....err, Lambda Shuttle, we've come to know and love.

I'll be honest, I want to learn to know and love this new one too. It's super sexy.

So does anyone else think that Fulcrum = Ahsoka?

On the note of the sentinel, it's based on the special edition of a new hope version, which is noticeably smaller than the EU version.

Whoa, that would be so cool.

There was a marking on the cargo they got for "Fulcrum" that was similar to Ahsoka's facial markings, and the voice communication was slowed down and appears to sound female when analyzed.

It will be a big let down if Fulcrum turns out to simply be Bail Organa.

But imagine if it is Galen Marek? Oh god orgasm!

I doubt it'd be Marek. Since it's 5 BBY and the events of TFU happened 2 BBY, I can't see why he'd fit there at all, still being a young man- actually younger than Ezra at this point , and still under Vader's tutelage.

I've been working with children (sitting, teaching, training, etc.) since 1980 so I've watched a LOT of crummy kid's shows. As they go, this isn't all that childish when it comes to dialogue and story. This one does better than most. Yeah, there are times when I groan inwardly a bit, but, like I said, it's working for me so far, and that's surprising. I'll just continue my enjoyment until I don't.

I've watched a lot of bad tv shows, too. I wouldn't call it bad. Oh, it might not be as cutting edge as those mentioned, but I don't think it's bad at all.

I can also see the Disney hate come out when people say it's just Aladdin in Star Wars. First off, the artwork is based on the Star Wars Clone Wars tv show, not Disney cartoons. Then, you get a young guy who is vaguely arabic and you have to jump to Aladdin? Really? Let go of your hate. It leads only to the Dark Side.

I've been watching it with my 9 yr old and we are loving it. People get shot and die. It's our favorite show.

We did listen to the audio book for the A New Dawn. It's the prequel to Star Wars Rebels and I think it gives some good background on the characters. Kannen is so flippant and hedonistic in the book and it will be interesting to see how the novels go and he becomes so serious.

Did anyone else, who remembers the classic toy line from the '70s, geek out when they saw their version of the Imperial Troop Transporter in the episode, "Fighter Flight"? I sure did. I did not own one, but I do remember it.

I am enjoying the series so far for all the nostalgia that it brings out, from the great idea to take from the mind of Ralph McQuarrie in their design of the TIE Fighter, and other concept idea, such as one of the protocol droids (the one that looks like the concept of C-3PO -- taken from Fritz Lang's Metropolis ) in the the episode "Droids in Distress".

Because this may contain spoilers can you make a post when the latest episode is shown with the title of the new episode so we, who wait till Saturday to watch can at least read up to that point?

Oh crap, good idea. I'll get on that.

I did, i loved mine as a kid but was always gutted they were never in the movies despite looking awesome.

Rebels has not only made them really 'entrenched' in the imperial system of the time but they also have limited flight from the look of things.

Makes me want a ground combat game that ties in with xwing and in the same scale even more now.

Personally the wife and i are loving this for what it is.

A disposable entertainment 20 minute kids sci fi romp with enough of an adult tone to keep us watching.

Sure its not the simpsons and written on three levels but it is just star wars action adventure.

The worst of rebels is better than the best of the prequels to date IMO and comparing film to animation is apples to oranges i know.

As a tie fighter fan and cosplayer its nice to see tie pilots get a bit more screen time too.

So does anyone else think that Fulcrum = Ahsoka?

Fulcrum I'm pretty sure is Bail Organa, they were docked with a suspiciously familiar looking CR90 when Hera went to meet him/her.

As for the rest of the show, there are elements that make me hate it and make me enjoy it. The animations, and design of the Tie fighters and Imperial Star Giraffe make me cringe, and that stupid slingshot drives me nuts. The fact that they don't have any Clone Stormies is annoying, because they do still exist. I really hope we see Echo and Cody at some point. But the stories are for the most part still good, so I still enjoy the show although anything that conflicts with the EU will be overwritten by the EU for me :)

He certainly could be. But I hope not. Well not exactly.

I think it's like this:

That CR-90 may well have contained Bail Organa. However we can also expect that Senator Organa is not alone. Not in his underground movement and certainly not aboard a large starship. He has allies. One of those allies could indeed be Ahsoka, it is certainly plausible. I mean, she'd have known about him from the Clone Wars and she would know that he is the type of person she could trust.

I think showing a CR-90 is an attempt to mislead the audience. Throw us a curveball, because we already know Bail Organa is involved, and we already know he has a CR-90. If this were a 100% pure children's show, then we might expect them to be that obvious and straigh forward, however there are so many Easter Eggs for teh rest of us, that I do indeed expect it to be a surprise. If not Ahsoka, then some other surprise. Rom Kota, Raymus Antilles, hell maybe even someone who knows Ezra's Parents (Obviously it isn't Ezra's Parents, because we already know Hera knows Fulcrum, and didn't know the truth of Ezra's folks).

I don't think that Fulcrum is Bail Organa. In the episode "Droids in Distress" the CR90 that Organa was in had red trim, possibly the Tantive IV itself. The one Hera docked with to drop off Tseebo had blue trim. Also I've seen it mentioned that the crates Hera and Sabine picked up at the abandoned base had markings on them that resembled Ahsoka's facial markings.

Hopefully Fulcrum will be Garm Bel Iblis.

I noticed his appearance in "Empire Day".

I took this show off the DVR queue. Its just too "kiddie" for me.

Hopefully Fulcrum will be Garm Bel Iblis.

He made an appearance there? Huh.

Yup. With a hint that Threepio and Artoo both were on a recon mission to investigate the ghosts crew, specifically Ezra.

No, that was Bail Organa. Empire Day had the holonet transmission interrupted by what sounds like "senator in exile ... Bel Ibliss", and the image is very, very similar to what he has been depicted as. So, the trio that formed the Alliance seems to be intact (f... you Starkiller).

The exiled Senator in Rebels is Gall Trayvis, voiced by Brent Spiner.

We know who Fulcrum is. We met him when they returned Threepio and Artoo. It's Bail Organa.

Yes, a blue trimmed CR-90
