It's so very quintessentially British.
I think that is what makes it so special. America could have never come up with a thousand year old man flying around space in a magic phone booth.
We had a guy that entered a phone booth, exitted, then could fly off into space.
Sydney Newman came up with the mysterious doctor, the name Doctor Who, and the idea of a time machine larger on the inside then the outside. He was born and raised in Toronto and didn't make it to Britian until he was in his 40's.
Joe Shuster, one of the co-creators of Superman was also Canadian. Metropolis was actually based on Toronto, Ontario. :-P
