By Arkanta974, in X-Wing

After some reseach about the X-Wing 2nd Ed: "Continental" (Wt) Expansion Pack, I found something who really intrigue me :

Sadly no picture of this.

I know they have talk about the return of aces packs from the adepticon 2020 panel, so this a good news can wait to see more ! :)

  • Sabine Wren
  • Ezra Bridger
  • Cleat
  • Secon Daree
  • Dicer
  • Duke

… S&V or Resistance I'm thinking, hopefully S&V .

Following the current setup of 1 ship in the pack having a separate expac and the other not, I'm not sure what would slot in for Resistance (Transport and 2x ???). Scum wise the Mining Guild Tie feels right for the simile to the Vulture and Torrent. Kihraxz maybe as the third ship (Probably going to be small base, unless they do another dual ship pack like the 2.0 Hound's Tooth, then Razorcrest +X is possible) ?

Thank you. I was curious myself.

Googled Skystrike Academy, looks Imperial, also "Rebels" the show related?

I know, Wookipedia is not to be trusted.

Could this be the first cross faction pack of 2.0? Rebel defector pilots in Tie LN as well as new imperial pilots for the LN and... maybe some other ships?

Perfect Chance to get Vult Skerris in Tie/Ln or Defender.

How about Wedge as en imperial pilot? (please no)

Please yes! Just have him at I4 and some new ability. Just like Ani.

(maybe give him Sabine’s pilot ability but limit it to barrel roll? Would that be busted on an I4 tie Ln?)

Bleh.

I know a lot of people have been asking for this, and my opinion will be an unpopular one, but IMO they couldn't have chosen a worse set of ideas for the first wave of squadron packs.

I really don't want Hera, Sabine et al to be all over the Rebel faction. I prefer each ship having a bit more of a unique feel and I like the idea of more 'specialist' pilots.

I also think there's a ton of more interesting routes they could have gone. Scarif pilots (we still have zero Rogue One pilots who actually saw screen time flying the respective ship outside of K-2SO and Cassian), the remaining Yavin pilots, Rogue Squadron, Shattered Empire's addition to the Endor rosters... I'd even take (shudder) Alphabet Squadron over more of the same old Rebels characters. Better yet, wait and see what Squadrons has to offer.

Vult Skerris in an Interceptor is... whatever. The Interceptor needs more pilots. I'd prefer Ciena Ree and Vult going to the TIE Defender to finish off its roster, but again... fine. I'll take him and his Soontir Fel rip off stripes. But who else is actually an Imperial pilot from the Skystrike episode?

Please, dear god , no.

If they put Wedge as an Imperial pilot in any form, I'm quitting this game. I would actually, no **** be done.

It would almost be worse if they included Hobbie, because he hasn't even appeared for the Rebels yet (another travesty).

Also, wasn't it supposed to be a Resistance pack we saw first?

Fugitives and Collaborators, the second link shared in the OP, is a term set that can accurately be applied to either S&V or Resistance. Though iirc the Resistance pack was supposed to be an old style Aces pack and not a Squadron pack.

Okay, I get it's your opinion and you are entitled to it. My question is simply this:

"Why?"

Specifically
Why would you quit the game because of Wedge as an Imperial pilot?

Skystrike Academy = TIE Interceptor(s) + TIE (Elite) Defender.

Pilots:

  • Vult Skerris
  • Instructor Goran
  • Lieut. Gimm
  • Rake Gahree

Now Fugitive & Colaborators... Scum, for sure... but who and which ships??

Probably the same as "fugutives".

To be fair, that also describes the Resistance at the end of Ep8 and through a fair bit of Ep9.

In either case, going by how the first two were set up, a squadron pack would probably include (existing 2.0 expac / no separate 2.0 expac) a ratio of 2/1 or 1/2 of 2 Canon small based ships. There is also a soft commonality (though that could just have been the timing) of initial 2.0 release of the faction on the existing 2.0 expac ship. They could easily break from the expac/noexpac combination, as well as the Canon only "limitation" that was presented with the first two.

Resistance: I'm thinking one or both of these two (paired with either A-Wings, the Transport or Fireballs if ratio is maintained, each other if not)

https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/B-Wing_Fighter_(Resistance)

S&V Canon small bases:

HWK, MGT, Y-Wing, Z-95 (though there are already 2 ways to get this one for 2.0 without involving a conversion kit), Quadrijet, Fang, and YT-Dart (or as FFG calls it, Escape Craft).

S&V non-Canon (nC) or questionably Canon (qC) small bases that exist in 2.0 or existed in 1.0 (not bothering hoping for ones that were never included in 1.0, I'll leave myself to be surprised if they're ever added) : Khiraxz (qC, what appears to be the aft port side of one was in a post Disney takeover comic cell that the Jumpmaster 2000 showed up in ), Starviper (nC), and Scyk (nC).

Aces packs!! WOO ! Seriously, it’s always fun to see more plastic crack & cardboard. Just cuz I already have an impractically-sized fleet doesn’t mean it can’t get bigger. Especially since I finally bit the bullet and picked up another case...

I kind of want to register a guess about what these are going to be, just to see how fabulously wrong I turn out to be later. But I also have some hunches . Let’s see how bad these are:

* I’m guessing these will focus on the 3 “original” factions... unless the 3rd one is Resistance, not Scum . The first two are super-plausibly Rebel & Imperial. The third could easily be Scum, though it sounds more Resistance to my ears. But look, FFG would love to get more money from players of the OG factions, and those same players would love to have a bone thrown to them. Easy win-win.

* I’m guessing these are all 3 ships . The phrase “squadron pack” brings to mind something like the 3-ship Republic & Separatists packs from last year, rather than the 2-ship packs from 1.0. Justifies a higher MSRP, too. And it helps FFG with their reprint goals, which brings me to my next guess:

* The 3 ships will all be reprints. 1 chassis will already be a 2.0 release, and it will come with new, release-specific pilots. 2 will be 1.0 ships not reprinted yet, and the pack will not give them new pilots, but it will contain helpful generic upgrades for them—which will also show up in the next Hotshots-style card pack. I’ll make specific predictions in a second, but I figure this will be FFG’s general thought process. Because let’s face it: FFG has a lot of 1.0 ships yet to reprint, and reprints probably cost less than new models—a helpful thing in a down economy.

* The 3 ships will follow an overall pattern of 1 “interesting,” 1 “boring,” and 1 “obscure” . In other words: one ship is there to sell you some sexy new pilots, make no mistake. One is there because it’s a useful if unexciting piece that FFG doesn’t want to risk stocking separately again (or that they may have unsold 1.0 stock left over for). And one will be a bit of an oddball or rarity that FFG also doesn’t want to stock separately again, but is less of an obvious slam-dunk list choice. (Look for some future dark horses of Hyperspace here.)

* The Rebel pack will have an RZ-1, a stolen TIE, and an Attack Shuttle . There’s your “interesting/boring/obscure” right there. But “Phoenix” is the giveaway there—it’s the perfect (and perhaps only) excuse to get the Rebel TIE and Attack Shuttle back into the game. And everyone would love to see more RZ-1 pilots, Hera among them. #PsychoTycho4Eva

* The Imperial pack will have an Interceptor, a Lambda Shuttle, and a TIE Aggressor . Madness , I know. Also might strain nu-canon to stick the Aggressor in the academy. (Maybe the kids are training on it?) But the secondary market is still robustly stocked with Lambdas, whereas new players out-of-touch with that market would be well served by getting one. Meanwhile, the Aggressor is freakin’ weird , unlikely to return on its own, out of stock everywhere—and one good turret upgrade away from glory. Last but not least, we’d all love more Interceptor pilots. Carnor? Ciena? Vult? Vader ? We can do this all day. Thing sells itself.

* If it’s Scum, pack #3 will have a Starviper, a Fang, and a HWK . Hold up—none of these are boring! In fact, the Starviper is probably a very interesting ship for newer Scum players. But the “boring” logic sort of holds for the Fang: everybody either has one or is at least familiar with them, so some new pilots could give them a shot in the arm. And while the HWK isn’t obscure if you’re an old-timer, it could be if you weren’t a Star Wars fan (or, like, born yet ) back in ‘94. It’d also definitely be useful for players who don’t have one, and it’d be fun to see it released for Scum this time. (For bonus points, throw in the Rebel cards & cardboard, too—might as well, it’s probably cheap to do and would generate some sales.)

...so, uh, that’s my guess, recorded for posterity. ^^

Those deserve their own single pack new release.

I'm not saying they don't, but so do the Belbulab and the V-19 Torrent.

Lambda is a large base. Squadron packs up to now were small base only. The MSRP on a Large + 2 different small base ships pack would likely be in the 60$ range (Hound's Tooth is 50$).

Also, the Squadron packs were 2 filler/spam light fighters of the same type + 1 support/medium fighter. Nothing against the individual ships, other than the Lambda, you're suggesting. Just bringing up something that should be taken into account. :)

Edit: That said: 1x YT Dart or HWK-290 and 2x Mining Guild Ties for S&V seems to fit with the HWK being the most likely support option I think. For Resistance I think 1x Resistance Transport or a new small based support ship and 2x Rz-2s, Fireballs or the Resistance Y-Wing.

No, you’re absolutely right—I know the Lambda would be a stretch at a reasonable MSRP. It could be something like a Bomber instead. But the Lambda would do a solid for newer players, and I have trouble imagining a 2.0 release of it shifting a lot of units on its own. (Though one could say the same about the YV-666, so who knows.)

50$ Lambda + TIE/Ln combo box maybe (Transport + escort like the Hound's Tooth, minus the ability to dock with the transport)? As a different release, not as part of what the import company @Arkanta974 found this info from has listed.

Based on that, I’d guess Phoenix is 2x As and a B or a T65. Empire being 2x LN and interceptor or 2x interceptor and defender. The fugitives is unclear - either hwk plus some light fighters? Maybe a hodge podge of 1x hwk, 1x kihraxz, 1x MG tie or z95? If it’s the resistance though, we know at least one of them is Poe’s orange t70. The others could be the Y and B?
