@Xcapobl - A lot of the reasoning behind having the force users not start off with light-sabers has to do with my in person table top group. We meet once a month. The started off with Ilium crystal lightsabers and because we meet only once a month for 3-4 hour sessions it has been difficult to run their crystal quest. The second reason is I was flipping through Nexus of Power sourcebook (specifically the Vergence) section, and thought "Wow. It would be a great modular encounter to run!"
But, that should not apply to you guys. I can wait until our tabletop group gets there. It does make sense for the Jedi in this setting to begin with their light sabers, especially those with 215 earned exp. We can also do above Vergence Modular Encounter during the campaign but have it not be centered around LS crystals.
SO..
If you guys so desire and choose. Force Users/Jedi may begin the game with a lightsaber using the Endless Vigil LS creation rules. Feel free to select an official crystal from the sourcebooks with pre-approval from GM. IE: Krayt Pearl and the Nightsister Crystal are off limits. Mechanics and Knowledge Lore (Taken from GM Kit, FaD) will be used for crafting LS hilts. Those who choose a LS begin with 2,250 base starting credits (300 much be spent on materials for the LS hilt). This would also allow the non-force users to not be on hiatus during the LS crystal portion of the campaign.
Players may also choose an exotic plasma weapon instead of a LS with 2,250 base starting credits.
@April Yes, even though HK-47 is a personal favorite, I highly discourage "Evil" characters. Now a droid with a natural tendencies to commit a crime here and there, but is able to reel it in with a support group, then sure. Or a droid prone to take 'moral shortcuts' in order to get the job done, when going up against a brick wall, that is okay as well.
Keep in mind, the droid will be flying with altruistic characters as @Xcapobl and @P-47 Thunderbolt mentioned. They also should have a reason to be working with the Jedi in peacekeeping the galaxy, and eventually preventing the nemesis of the story from collecting Jedi and Sith artifacts.
The more I attempt to flesh out the High Republic era (Because it is new to us), the more "It is a golden age where there is much more peace and calm in the galaxy." along with "The threat and tension comes from the Republic's borders. Because the Republic does not extend from one side to the other." keep popping into my mind.
I imagine that the High Republic era is the pinnacle of the stability of Republic. The Senate lacks corruption, the Core Worlds & Mid Rims are at peace and stable. Organized crime syndicates and mega corporations like the Black Sun and Czerka have been dealt with by the Jedi.
King Arthur and the Knights of the Round were very proactive in dealing with threats the Camelot. Sheriffs in the wild were were men of action.
The threat level maybe low and you guys might be able to "walk" through everything, however there is a GIANT surprise at the end. :).
So yes, I am asking for a more light side or grey characters in this campaign.
That being said, for the pilot - I would be more than happy to open up the Smuggler Career - Scoundrel and Pilot specializations for the droid (No charmer, thief, gambler). Gunslinger is a maybe if it fits the character.
