Kandosii Beroya'se IC

By P-47 Thunderbolt, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire Beginner Game

Kara takes a breath and carefully aims at Caton, then gently pulls the trigger, unleashing a hail of bolts impacting the damaged section of armor. The frozen astonishment on Caton's face slowly fades as he collapses to the ground.

The officer wounded by Cade grabs his side and tries to scramble away, his blood and that of his decapitated partner pooling and mixing with the rain.

Jasper fires several stun bolts at Kara, hitting her once. A stun ring washes over her and she nearly passes out, hardly able to stay on her feet. Jasper yells for the other officers to retreat, but they don't really need any encouragement. The pair fighting Ge'tal runs back to the police car with the Mandalorian hard on their heels, while the other wounded officer is already running for his life.

Cade runs after the wounded officer, getting in reach, swings hard into his back. The blade makes its way through meat and bone and the man drops to the ground.

Kara struggles to get into cover of one of the police speeders, using it as added support to line up another shot. She squeezes of a couple of shots, taking down two more of the - hopefully, dirty officers.

There you go vode, take them out.

Ge’tal runs her opponent through with her blade, dropping him.

Cade surveyed the carnage they just laid out, slowly walking passed the bodies, checking each in turn.. making his way back to D'avia...

Darien silently listens to the team's comm channel while Kurak keeps pacing, growing increasingly agitated. The detective finally stops, whirling on the Mandalorian. "What da 'ell is going on? How's my daughter? I'm going down there." He starts to storm out of the common room.

Kara motions the others to hurry up, Come on, di'kut, she calls to Cade, as she climes in the drivers seat. Get the girl in here and let's go! [Dar, D'avia is secured, en route to a medcenter.. Looks like we may have a new problem, the cops wanted us alive and delivered to someone.. be careful!]

Cade slides D'avia into the back seat, and gets into the front passenger seat.

Ge’tal lies the girl down in the back seat and climbs in. “Step on it,” Ge’tal says gruffly, as she quickly assesses the situation. “But keep the wheel steady. No sudden moves.” Kneeling down, she begins CPR chest compressions to restart her heart and applies pressure point techniques to strategic points stabilizing the girl.

Darien motions him to calm down, Udesii... Clam down, D'avia is secured and on her way to a medcenter..

Kara accelerates the speeder down the rain drenched streets, doing her best to avoid major intersections. Keeping mostly to darken alleyways and side streets..

Kurak stops, putting his hand to his head, "Tell me what 'appened. How'd it go down? This'simport'nt."

Darien hesitated, It seems they might have tried to cause an overdose, but like I said, my team has her and is en route to a medcenter... it also seems like Canton and several officers that might have been on the payroll are no longer a concern..

Kurak exhales sharply through his nose and resumes pacing, "How 'no longer a concern' are they?" he rumbles.

Darien simply looked at the man as if he were a child. Knowing how Cade and Ge'tal normally operate, you can bet Canton and the others can have their next paycheck forwarded to the morgue..

Kurak sets his jaw and shifts his hand to the back of his neck, rubbing at the base of his skull, "Fierfeck! I's 'friad you'd say that. They killed, what, six cops? Eight? They kriffing killed -" He stops, sighing heavily again, a rumbling growl escaping from deep within his chest. "Don't get me wrong, Caton's life ain't worth what passes for caf at the station, this just makes things more... difficult . I'm only at all concernd 'bout the others."

Maya looks up coolly from her datapad, sympathizing with Kurak's situation but starting to become irritated with the constant pacing and huffing, "I've just about got the program set up, is there something I can do to help in this situation?"

Kurak looks at her for a moment, thinking, still rubbing the back of his neck. "I think there is, lady. Uh..." He looks at her blankly for a moment.

"Maysh'la." she prompts.

"Mysh'la, right. Sorry. You'll be 'acking into their s'cur'ty comp'ny already to spread your program, it'll just take an additional stop to try and erase any footage of that parking lot. I oughta be able to handle the rest. You wouldn't believe how much dirt I have on some a' da brass. 't's the only reason they let me stay on."

Maya starts to turn back to her datapad, "Then that'll be my first stop..?" She looks to Darien, as if waiting for a go ahead.

Darien nods to Maya, then turns to gauge Falmok's current state of mind, interpreting his brother's body language automatically through long familiarity. He looks over to Kurak, still pacing furiously. "Udesii, Detective. Relax. Your daughter is in good hands." Darien grimaces, diplomacy isn't his strong suit. "Can I get you anything to drink?"

Kurak shakes his head, "No, I jus' need her to wipe those cameras so I c'n make some calls."

Maya finally snaps, "Then stop pacing so I can FOCUS!"

He looks over at her in surprise, then takes a seat by Falmok. Darien flicks on the private, short-ranged comm channel (at this point only available to Falmok and himself) and brings Arno into the circuit. "[Alright, burc'ya. Gar kartayl ibic veeray... Got any ideas? What about that bar near the Lady Fate?]"

With her surroundings now comparatively silent, Maya starts slicing into the systems of the security company being used by Griggs's outfit. Her slicing gear is spread out over the table and in precise order so that she can maintain her best workflow.

She hacks into the system cleanly, but curses under her breath as she realized she tripped an alarm. She deploys the trawling program, just in time before the system administrator activates the security programs. She grows increasingly frustrated over the next couple of minutes as she tries, and fails, to breach the security. She takes the opportunity to start seeding decoys and false bits of signature to confuse any attempts to track her and storing up some bits of code for a future assault against some of the weaknesses she noticed. When she finally gets into the system, she realizes that the chakaar is trying to pin down the program she introduced. Learning lessons from previous encounters gone wrong, this time she secures a permanent backdoor so she can quickly reaccess the system if she gets kicked.

No sooner has she finished this when the security programs reactivate, blocking her again. Over the next several minutes, she and the system administrator fight over the security programs, neither gaining much ground, but the whole time Maya is really just keeping him distracted while she spreads junk data and false signatures to throw him off her trail and noting more vulnerabilities, preparing for her coming assault.

Finally! she breaks through, but then quickly realizes he's shifted tacks; now he's trying to pin down her program. She quickly releases a stream of junk data and decoys, completely stymying his attempts. While he's occupied, Maya quickly tracks down the hotel's cameras, isolating the stored footage. Her datapad beeps in alarm and she finds herself blocked for executing further commands in the system and now on the defensive as he tries to kick her out of the system. Well, joke's on him if he does. That'll hardly even slow me down . With everything she's thrown his way, he fails dramatically and leaves her an opening to attack him. Exploiting some of the vulnerabilities she noticed earlier, she begins her assault and successfully kicks him out of the system, then overrides his hold.

She focuses on isolating the exact segments of footage she needs to erase. Just as he gets back online, she sends a barrage of prepared code at the system, exploiting multiple vulnerabilities, and successfully erases the target footage. After some more scanning to ensure that she got it all, she backs out of the system. She checks her datapad, and is disappointed to see that there are no signs of Kymber within the target range. Yet, at least. Well, I'll let the program run while I hack into the other security firms. Hopefully they can't trace the program back to us.

burc'ya. Gar kartayl ibic veeray... = friend. You know this area... @Barbaross41 , please fill them in on what Arno knows of the bar. If you have any specific questions, ask in the OOC and I'll try to answer them.

"From what I've heard, the bar isn't owned by Gorka per se, but is still somewhat affiliated with him. Seem to have heard something about some Barabel as well."

"[You mean he still goes there? How old is that info? When was he last there, do you know?]"

@Barbaross41 , for ease of reference, here's that info again: You know that that bar is no longer used by high-profile members of Gorka's operation, but it is still friendly to people with ties to Gorka and there may be some people there with connections to Kymber and her Barabel.
Also, please "put speech in bold," "[put speech over comms in brackets,]" and "<put speech translated from Mando'a in whatever these things are called.>"

"[It is no longer used by high-profile members of Gorka's operation, but it is still friendly to people with ties to it and there may be some connections to Kymber and her Barabel.]"

"[Hmm...]" Darien says, mulling it over. He glances towards Maya, who is furiously tapping away at her datapad, then says, "[We've got a while before she'll be done running her scans, Vhal, do you want to try the bar? See if the chakaar know where those two are holed up?]"

Falmok shrugged, [Why not.. We might even flush something out..]

"[Let's wait for Maya to finish erasing the camera footage so Kurak can get started on pulling strings.]" He sighs, "[I guess I should probably stay behind to babysit. Your turn to get out there, ner vod.]"

Kurak glances between the three Mandalorians, wondering what, if anything, they are talking about inside their helmets. "How's my daughter?"

Darien turns his head towards the large Devaronian, "I won't lie to you, she isn't doing well. But she is alive. They're still a while away from the hospital, I'll keep you posted when things change." Kurak resumes boring a hole in the wall with his gaze, clenching and unclenching his meaty fists.

Or you could take Kurak along and bring Darien too. Kurak isn't exactly popular in the galactic underworld though, so that has its drawbacks.

Falmok nodded to Darien, and indicated to Arno to follow him. [Stay safe vod.. I'll update you when we get to the bar..] Falmok led Arno down the ramp, So, what brings you here?

Arno holds up his right hand and rubs his fingers together, "Money. Ord Mantell is a great place for an up-and-coming bounty hunter. If you're asking about this..." He gestures behind himself at the ship, "First, a bounty who was gunning for a Mando. Then, more money. I was promised a cut of the sixty thousand if I used my knowledge of the area to help out."

Falmok nodded, Fair enough. Shall we see what vermin we can shake loose at the bar?

"Let's." He draws his blaster pistol and gives it an artistic twirl before slipping it back into its holster.

Back on the ship, Maya finally looks up from her datapad, taking the chance to breathe. "It's done. I erased the footage."

Kurak immediately grabs his comlink and starts making calls. "Listen closely , 'boss.' Those six cops who were killed? Yeah. Caton tried to protect 'is buddies in Griggs's outfit from a Black Sun 'it sq'ad. Yeah, I know. I know you put out an ABP on 'em. Shut it off. Those Mandos were innocent bystanders . Get it? They took a- Yeah, of course they did. They've got an OD'd GIRL in the back! You think they's just gonna WALK!? Shut yer kriffin' mouth . You know what I can do to you. That's better... See, they ain't suspects anymore. They's just in the wrong place at the wrong time, an' eyewitness testimony proved it. Send out the word and have them escorted to the medcenter, ASAP."

The next one sounds like his wife, as he's telling her to get down to the medcenter quickly and updating her on D'avia's status.

After one more call that sounds like planting a story with a friendly reporter, he rises to his feet and stares Darien straight in the T-visor. "I'm going to the medcenter now, and you ain't gonna stop me."
Darien looks back at him coolly, gauging his potential to cause trouble if they try to keep him here or if they let him go. In the intervening silence, they can all hear the light patter of rain on the outer hull. "Alright, Kurak. Go see your daughter."

The detective adjusts his coat and strides quickly out of the room, down the ladder and towards the ramp. "Cha'ly, I need to borrow yer speeder..."

As Kara speeds through the rain, Darien's voice suddenly comes over comms, "[Heads up, Kurak just left and is en route. He says he took the heat off of you.]"

A moment later, the speeder's comm beeps and an androgynous robotic voice says, "Civilians in police speeder, we are aware of your situation and sending escort, please identify. What is your location? Press and hold the red button to speak." Kara glances at the GPS and notes that they're still about seven minutes away from the medcenter.
