This is primarily a discussion of Nantext, because ... who ISN'T talking about Nantex? I make Drew and Vince explain to me why the list is so dangerous, partly out of some genuine ignorance and partly just to illustrate what they do for those one or two other X-Wing players who, like me, don't know.

All things considered, I think we were pretty reasonable and measured in our discussion. We tried to talk about some other lists and well-performing players in the Dathomir Galactic Championship, but we keep getting dragged back to the bugs. (Oh, and BTW: the closest thing I have to an actual phobia is insects; true story!)

Wanna give a shout-out to everyone involved in presenting the Galactic Championship series. Obviously this includes Dion and GSP, but I know there are lots of people helping out in addition, and, really, thanks. I thought Vince was gonna go insane without actual results to talk about, and I don't wanna see that!

Y'all have a good week!

Episode 83 of Fangs Out (I really thing it should be branded as "Fangs Out!" complete with exclamation point) is available for download. This episode was recorded on September 17th, 2020.

We talk at length and in a little depth about the LAAT, the HMP, and the TIE Heavy. So far, in my opinion, this wave looks like a winner, with some serious potential, if pricing is wrong or people find the right combos, for abuse. But I really love the ships!

It's a longer episode (I think Vince edited it down to about 90 minutes), so settle in!

Y'all have a good week!

Good episode. Republic R2D2 does not lost the gunner slot though, it trades the astro slot for a crew slot since R2D2 is piloting. Thus he can take Ghost Company. Though it's not a good idea.

Thanks! I'll mea culpa when recording tonight. Especially since Dee and Ryan were so right that it's a hilarious image.

Episode 84 of Fangs Out! is now available! We recorded this episode on September 21st, 2020.

Ben Smith, of the Militant Casuals, was our guest this week, and speaking personally he's one of my favorites. We start out talking about the Galactic Qualifier, Concord Dawn, and -- what else? -- the Nantex.

I want to stress again, as you listen to us move on to talk about "The Call": I have immense respect and affection for Dee Yun, and I know that Vince, Drew, and Ben feel the same way, although they may not have known him quite so long. So although I believe he made a catastrophically bad call, and I go a long way in supporting why I believe that, I think -- no matter what -- this call is dwarfed by his contributions, in so many ways -- to X-Wing. So, Dee Yun, thank you for existing!

I likewise want to say that although I don't like playing X-Wing on TTS -- if anybody's interested in why, feel free to ask -- I similarly recognize that TTS and the X-Wing module get tremendous credit for making streams of online play pleasant to watch, which is really important with what we're going through now. While I prefer VASSAL, and I'm personally happy to watch VASSAL streams, it's really not as pretty to watch, and I think the audience would be a fraction of what streamers get with TTS games. So, CrazyVulcan and others ... a genuine thank you.

Y'all have a good week.

(P.S. No Nantex hot-fix. *sad trombone*)

Episodes 86 and 87 of the Fangs Out! Podcast are now available. We recorded these episodes on 10/6/2020 (I think) and 10/15 2020.

https://wwwargaming.podbean.com/e/fangs-out-episode-86-unstoppable/

Faithful listeners will notice that there was no episode 85. We recorded one, but it sucked ... none of us were in a great place to record, so Vince decided (rightly, IMO) to trash it. I'm not entirely sure why we skipped over the number ... but apparently that was a Vince call made in exhaustion at 4 AM.

Anyway, these two are dropping at once because Vince, who edits, didn't have a working laptop charger. He's got one now!

Indeed we are!

My apologies for the delay, I was without the ability to edit for almost a week and it pushed back editing of the following week as well.

Would appreciate everyone spreading the word that we are back on schedule and uploading again!

Episode 88 of the Fangs Out! Podcast is available for download! We recorded this episode on 10/19/2020.

This is the first major tournament in quite a while without any Nantex in the final. Instead, we have a very interesting Boba-Dengar and an even more interesting I4 Imperial Salad with lots of Force and -- this is not a typo -- Ved Foslo. Very nice.

In addition to all the things we do every episode (although, interestingly, this one has less b!tching than normal), we discuss what explains the No-Nantex finals. (Spoiler: My opinions falls to "two non-Nantex players flew very well and things went their way; Nantex are still the single strongest list.")

What do y'all think?

Y'all have a good week!

Episode 89 of the Fangs Out! Podcast is available for download! We originally recorded Episode 89 on 10/26, with special guest Tommy A. (AKA MegaSilver), but the Zencastr recording service Vince prefers ate my entire audio track, and garbled the others. We're really sorry about that, MegaSilver. We re-recorded the episode on 10/29/2020.

https://wwwargaming.podbean.com/e/fangs-out-episode-89-triple-trouble/

In this episode, we talk about the emergency Nantex-nerf, the CIS Droid Tri-Fighter expansion, and the CIS Firespray (Jango Fett) expansion.

For episode 90, we'll talk about the points for released stuff, so listen for that!

Thanks, everybody, and y'all have a good week.

One correction. Firing arc ends with range 3 outside of Huge ships (which cap at range 5 for their longer ranged hardpoints). So Drew's supposition of a Vulture passing a token to DIS-T81 from "range 6" isn't happening.

Hello all!

Hope everyone has been following us on Facebook or on Spotify as we have been uploading more eps, unfortunately the FFG page can sometimes get left a few weeks behind.

We are now on Episode 93 reviewing the Lima Open and the overall wet fish thud that was the Wave 8 release so far, please check that one out here - https://wwwargaming.podbean.com/e/fangs-out-episode-93-south-for-the-winter/

But also here is the previous week's ep where we go in depth about the various Actis pilots and what we think is the future of Jedi specifically in X Wing - https://wwwargaming.podbean.com/e/fangs-out-episode-92-on-an-island/

Feels good to finally be caught up on editing! Thank you all for your continued support, stay safe and enjoy the new pew pews!

Episode 95 (and all previous episodes, with the exception of one mysterious gap) of the Fangs Out! podcast is available for download. This episode was recorded on 12/16/2020.

https://wwwargaming.podbean.com/e/fangs-out-episode-95-frankensteins-swiss-alarm-clock/

It's a pretty good episode, in the era of COVID, so we hope you'll give a listen!

Y'all have a good week!

Episodes 96 and 97 of the Fangs Out! podcast are available for doanload. These episodes were recorded on ... Jesus, I have no idea. Within the last three weeks, sometime?

https://wwwargaming.podbean.com/e/fangs-out-episode-96-could-we-possibly-have-been-wrong-never/

https://wwwargaming.podbean.com/e/fangs-out-episode-97-the-end-of-year-summary-total-bull-session/

Episode 97, fair warning, is just me, Vince, Drew, and frequent guest Rick R. BSing about lots and lots of Star Wars-related entertainment stuff. Spoilers galore. Do not listen to this one if (a) you're spoiler-averse, or (b) are expecting X-Wing content. This doesn;t even have X-Wing content by our fairly low bar!

Y'all have a good week. Fs in the chat for the FFG forums!

I've got your podbean local set as this forum dies. What other platform do you guys like for keeping in touch with the fans?

We talked about this on Episode 98 a little bit. (Available as of yesterday! https://wwwargaming.podbean.com/e/fangs-out-episode-98-two-year-anniversary/ )

The answer isn't tidy. I'll probably migrate (back; it was my first X-Wing forum eight years ago) to BoardGameGeek. Vince and Drew like the memes and aggressive squalls of various FB groups and Discords. I really only stick to the Fly Better FB page, because I have a tremendous liking and respect for Ryan and Dee. Maybe, since we're a Bay Area podcast, we can start using the SF Bay Area X-Wing FB page as an HQ?

It's a good question, and I wish I had a better answer for you. Now it's about that time for a pint for you, innit? Thanks for sticking with us!

As these forums inch toward being shut down, I'd like to say it's been a pleasure. I joined back on my birthday (no idea why, just a coincidence, I think) in 2014, and since then I for a while walked a line, garnering 6 warning points ... without ever getting kicked. Along the way, I made lots of judgments of whose threads and posts were worth reading, and who was just worth the Ignore function (which I used incredibly rarely). In a couple of cases, during periodic re-thinks, I even changed my mind on both of those. But I learned a lot about X-Wing from the worthwhile people here. I'm gonna miss the place.

Episodes 99 and 100(-ish) of the Fangs Out! podcast are now available for your listening ... well, we're gonna call it "pleasure." We're still going strong, which is amazing to me. Episode 100 was recorded on January 26th, 2021.

Episode 100 - https://www.podbean.com/ew/pb-dkbnh-f8fc3d

Oh, and we're also available on Spotify now!

Y'all have a good week, and I genuinely wish every one of you the best. Fingers crossed for AMG announcements on 2/3/2021!

Thanks for having me on as guest! Was fun. Hopefully we can get some real table time this year! Miss my bay area xwingers!

Be honest ... you miss utterly destroying us.

Oh, and it case folks missed it, @wurms is our extra-special episode 100 guest, in honor of his victory in the 170-player Gold Squadron Podcast Flight Club event.

Speaking of episode 98. Regular listener here as well, from Europe, since spring '18. Due to family life and jobb I not always manage to listen directly after publishing, but sooner or later I do listen. As I did listen to 98 today. Thus literally in the eleventh hour to post here. And esp appreciate your sharp analytical (rven o the euder status of the game) and statistical takes, Jeff! Although I enjoy the casual side more than the tourneys, being an avid Shuttle Tydirium follower.

BBG (been on there since '06, and patron since 12) is going pretty slow regarding X-wing. The various tries for general discords seem not go that fast either. And FB, about from being quite the spy on your private life, mail and cookies, is a real PIA if trying to find a piece of discussion (of course they want you to stay on there as long as possible, clicking around).

As I said elsewhere AMG/FFG is loosing a big node here. Every type of gamer was meeting here, seeing the other perpective as well, and might get interested into other aspects of the game as well. That is going to be lost, falling into a myriad of subgroups in some splinter group hidden somewhere in the vast reaches of the net.
