I don't get why this is an issue for you, when the sniper team was taking pot shots at the PC jedi on the way to sabotage the bridges the jedi PCs knew exactly where the sniper nest was after the first shot, and Ker'see is using a rifle liberated from those enemy snipers. I'm being perfectly consistent with my previous ruling.

Oh, nevermind then. Sorry, I forgot about that (I've also developed my theory regarding Perception checks and the necessity thereof since then, explaining why I didn't mention it at the time). The reason I think it should take a Perception check is that I think it makes sense (in general. See below), is RAI, and makes it more interesting (and it's also how I'd handle it in my games).

Originally, I thought it was just an oversight on your part.

Supervisor droids are a bit smarter than a run of the mill b1, and being droids they can back calculate the trajectory of the bolt provided they see a decent portion of it's flight path. A muzzle flash you have to be looking at when it happens to see it.

I guess that makes sense.

As a GM, I'd still be fairly loathe to say the droids don't have to make a check, but okay. I generally prefer to just treat droids as mechanical organics for the purposes of what checks to make when and why (aside from immunities). This is also so that droid PCs don't become extremely powerful in certain regards, like Knowledge, Perception, or Vigilance checks.

No worries, no grudges. Always feel free to question me if you think I made a bad call. My philosophy of GMing is only call for a roll when absolutely necessary. Perception or vigilance vcx an be u see ed for casual observation, perception has to be used when searching for something non obvious. An example of something you could use vigilance to detect is noticing a pickpocket at work, if you were searching for a hidden door then you have to use perception. If you run into a dimly lit room while being chased or chasing someone and were looking for another exit (door or window) I wouldn't make you roll. I don't make people roll piloting checks unless they are trying to do something other than normal operations (or maybe they first time the use a vehicle).

@EliasWindrider , should we go ahead and narrate the others underway "in the morning" for the droid assault?

@Bellona , @RuusMarev , do one of you want to do it, or would you rather I do it? I'm thinking sewers. @EliasWindrider , any checks or anything? Are we able to just go until we surface? How far from the target do we come up? What are the defenses around the shield generator like? Or is it just the LR-57 s, in which case what check to notice/identify them?

No stats for them, but I've got some homebrewed ones if you want to hear them.

@P-47 Thunderbolt works for me. :D

The droids are going to attack the Republic base under cover of their shield generator, so the team is going to slip through their lines by hiding in the sewers and get past them to take out the shield generator.

I still need answers:

Do you need stats for the LR-57s?

I need stats for LR-57s. So them and b2's and droideekas, and a tactical droid. Those are just what's close to the generator. Theirs a bunch of other droids and vehicle further ahead but still under the shield.

How far away would you like to come up? The closer you are the sooner you're detected.

I'm inclined to say you come up in the ruins of a building so you have a little bit of cover and you won't be immediately spotted. But what's your preference?

Here are three options: Minion, Rival (both by me) and the changes between my Rival version and the Heroes on Both Sides (fan supplement) version:

LR-57 Combat Droid: 521111 Soak 8, WT 8, Melee/Ranged Defense 0/0.

Group Skills: Vigilance, Brawl, Gunnery.
Abilities: Burrower (May conceal itself by digging under the ground, leaving only its sensor antennae visible, adding 2 Setback to any Perception or Vigilance checks made to notice its presence and 2 Setback to surprised opponents’ initiative checks), Droid, Lumbering (may only make one move maneuver each turn, and may not take the aim maneuver), Silhouette 2.

Equipment: Two Built-In Twin Heavy Blasters (Gunnery; 12; 3; Long; Linked 1, Pierce 1), Heavy Hands (Brawl; +2 [7]; 4; Engaged; Knockdown), Integrated Comlink and Sensor Suite (Boost to Perception and Vigilance checks).

LR-57 Combat Droid: 521111 Soak 8, WT 14, Melee/Ranged Defense 0/0.

Skills: Vigilance 3, Brawl 1, Gunnery 3.

Equipment: Two Integrated Twin Heavy Blasters (Gunnery; 12; 3; Long; Linked 1, Pierce 1), Heavy Hands (Brawl; +2 [7]; 4; Engaged; Knockdown), Integrated Comlink and Sensor Suite (Boost to Perception and Vigilance checks).

(Changes: Added Burrower, added Sil 2, dropped Brawl by 1, buffed Gunnery by 1, changed stomping mechanical leg [+0; 5; engaged; Knockdown) to Heavy Hands, added Integrated Comlink and Sensor Suite, dropped Linked by 2, Pierce by 1, and removed Vicious, dropped WT by 1, buffed Soak by 1, dropped Resilience)

I like that idea.

I'd say Medium range, if we can get that close.

@RuusMarev , @Bellona ?

For see the concealed LR-57s, based on how I do Perception checks, I'd make it Average with 2 Setback (from abilities). Should someone roll that or a different check to see them?

And how "near" the shield generator are the B2s, Droidekas, and Tactical Droid? Right by?

A re you figuring on the group looking carefully around first, before they leap out of the sewers? :)

ETA:

Looking for enemy before leaping out of tunnels! Perception + Force : 2eA+4eF 1 advantage, 1 Light Side, 3 Dark Side
a-a.png a--.png f-ds.png f-ds.png f-ls.png f-ds.png

Final Result (using 1 LS pip for 1 Success) : 1 Success, 1 Advantage.

... A success, but maybe Jorin, Camouflage, or the troopers will see even more than Mireska.

Result of Mireska's Perception check.

You are go to post, medium is fine. Tactical droid in/on one of their hover tanks. Droideekas are rolling as scouts & escort. B2's are marching. Tactical droid and b2's are right with the shield generator (AAT hover tank is towing the generator). Droideekas are rolling close enough for you to hear and identify them by their rolling sound. 2 purple 2 black is fine.

Wait, the shield generator is moving? Then how are the LR-57s concealed? In the movie, the shield generator was stagnate but gradually expanding the shield bubble.

Here's the check: Perception : 2eP+1eA+2eD+2eS 2 successes, 1 threat, 1 Triumph
p-tr.png p-s.png a-s.png d--.png d-th.png s-f.png s--.png

Can I get a count of LR-57s and/or droidekas? Guessing a Strain with the Threat since I see what we've got to deal with.

The LR-57s are concealed along the route. It will set up closer to the republic garrison and then expand. It's not there yet. Now it's protecting the force as it moves closer to the republic. You spotted 1 minion group of 6 LR-57s burrowed along a direct path from where you are to the shield generator, so you can avoid this group. There are "probably" (there are) other groups burrowed elsewhere. There are 4 droideekas rolling as escorts for the moving shield generators. 2 roll at a time the other 2 are set up with shield as the generator moves past them. you can hear the echo of other droideekas farther away.

Honestly? She looks like a meatgrinder and I think that she's going to paste us.

Built like a duellist PC - but with more than double our XP plus 9 GM grants - against two non-duellists? No contest, particularly without Ker'see (and Ethan or Kain) available.

(Main continuity Obi-Wan and Anakin at least are duellists, partly because of OWK's experience with Maul. Neither Mireska nor Jorin have had any reason to prepare for a duel with a powerful darksider, particularly as no one knows that Dooku has "gone Sith" by this point.)

I also think that it's weird that Ventress has the Circle of Shelter and Guardian of the Republic talents (it doesn't strike me as being her style of doing things). And Will of the Force seems like another form of overkill when we already have the destiny pool stacked against us (unless she can't actually use it for anything useful, due to being a darksider ... that would be a refreshing change from all those "useless"/blocking Conflict talents in the various FaD trees, including the Jedi General tree).

The Misdirect power - was she in the habit of using Force illusions? (I'm not familiar enough with her history to know about that.)

The Dragoon - I didn't know that Ventress was in the habit of using blasters. (This could also be just my lack of familiarity with all her doings.)

I concur with Bellona on all counts, and I also question why she has Makashi instead of Ataru. RotS gives her high Agility (453443), Ataru Technicque, and Hawkbat Swoop.

Jorin and Mireska will already be drained after fighting the droids, and I don't think they'll last much more than two rounds. If they are at full, they'll last five max but probably only four.

She is wa y overstatted. I think statting NPCs like PCs is a bit too much. 10 ranks of Parry? That means that for maybe 2 rounds she is completely impervious to damage from Mireska or Jorin. Reflect 6 is still a bit much as it reduces damage by 14 in combination with Soak. We just don't have anything that can scratch Ventress before she's dropped all of us.

Meanwhile, 2 hits of her lightsaber (without being Parried) is enough to outright drop either Mireska or Jorin. They're likely already going to be drained after the fight with the droids (unless they go overboard on healing, not sure about the timing), and they've only got Parry 2 (4 damage). We're talking 6 damage at an absolute minimum, and she's rolling 5eP+1eB at a minimum, with 2 free Advantage. Likely going to be a consistent 9+ damage even counting Parry into the mix. Again, that's enough to drop either of them in two hits if they're at full health. This is not to mention the crits, which have the potential to really hamstring the PCs, absolutely crippling their ability to fight back if it rolls just the wrong one.

I know they aren't supposed to win, but shouldn't there be at least some reason Ventress would retreat and not finish them off? She isn't exactly the merciful type. Right now, the only way I see of dealing with her would be to steal the AAT, and I try to avoid using Planetary-scale ordnance against Personal-scale targets because it feels like cheating (and because of the golden rule).

Since we're waiting, do we get a round to prepare?

I'm guessing we do, so I'm flipping a DP and here's my check for The Harder They Fall: The Harder They Fall : 2eP+2eA+2eD 3 successes, 1 advantage
p-a-a.png p-s-s.png a-s.png a-s.png d-f.png d-th.png

YEESSS!

I finally get to use it and it doesn't fink out on me. :D

Going to select Varactyl Squad and Jorin. Sorry, Mireska, but you just aren't all that likely to hit and Jorin has more experience working with Camo.
THTF: For the remainder of the encounter, combat checks that deal wounds or HT to droids or vehicles automatically inflict a crit (Advantage/Triumph can be spent for additional crits). Further, you ignore 2 points of Defense rating.

Initiative (Cool since it's an ambush): Initiative (Cool) : 2eP+1eA 3 successes, 1 Triumph
p-s.png p-tr.png a-s.png

Oh man, can I get a free Maneuver with that?

I have Get the Drop, adding 2 success to all allied Initiative checks. I'd wait to use it until we see if it's needed, but keep that in mind. (If I have to declare ahead of time, then consider it declared)

Is the top hatch of the tank open? How many B2s are there?

Actually, the Makashi I can understand - part of her training was from Dooku, and he's a master of that particular lightsabre form.

Other than Makashi, I would also expect her to have some combination of Ataru, Shii-Cho, and maybe Juyo. IIRC, she's both acrobatic and strong, and darksiders use Juyo often (e.g., Maul). (It took Mace Windu to develop Juyo into the more lightside-acceptable Vaapad.)
