After Padawan and Knight in Rise of the Separatists, what other Jedi specs could we get?

Probably someone asked it before but Lighsaber Forms from FaD count as "outside carieer" from Jedi and have an extra XP cost? I read some posts but I would like to know please if there is any official response.

Thanks people!

Yes, those are out-of career specs for the Jedi career.

There's been no official word that contradicts the normal rules regarding specializations that aren't part of your starting career, so the default is that the usual rules apply, and if your Jedi PC wants to focus on a Lightsaber Form, then they need to pony up the additional 10XP to buy the spec as a per the rules for a non-career spec.

They are outside of career. But with the Knight and Padawan Specs you can now make a very good Jedi with these 2 and a lightsaber form.

The lightsaber specs (and their associated form talents) really aren't all that necessary to make a serviceable Jedi. There is no stigma to using Brawn with the Lightsaber skill.

My pseudo-houserule is to allow any Jedi character to select two lightsaber form specifications to become career specifications, to bring them up to the full 6 career specs. But I haven't had a chance to test it, so that's why it's still a "pseudo" houserule.

I agree. And everything you need is in the Jedi Career. Which is why I dont have issue with the forms being out of career. I think @Absol197 Idea is good too.

For most games, it hardly matters. That's, at best, 20XP of difference.

I would suggest limiting to one 'saber Form spec. While the Jedi career might not have a full six native specs (at least, not as of yet), given how many bases are generally covered they probably don't really need a full set of six.

Also, given the ranks of Parry and Reflect already available between Padawan and Knight, unless you really want to open the door to high-end players having some truly obscene amounts of Parry and Reflect, allowing a player to pick/choose two specs is asking for trouble down the line, especially if those two specs are Niman Disciple and Soresu Defender.

Plus, it's really a pittance in terms of XP to go outside of one's career to nab one of the Form specs, unless the GM is exceptionally stingy with XP rewards (such as only handing out 10 to 15XP at the end of an adventure that took two to three sessions to complete).

I feel like a lot of characters could start in one of the F&D careers then actually move into the Knight specialisation as an out of career spec. It opens up a plethora of character stories and backgrounds to players.

That's pretty much what most of the Jedi in Luke's New Jedi Order (from Legends) did.

Probably intended by the writers. After all, almost all of Luke's first generation of students in Legends started out in other careers, much as Luke himself did, along with pre-Ruusan Jedi Order accepting members of other Force traditions or even adults into their ranks.

As such, it keeps the door open for PCs from EotE and AoR who went the route of Exile or Emergent whose character arc includes becoming a Jedi, again mirroring Luke's path from young bush pilot to Jedi Knight and eventually Jedi Master.

I do really like how the padawan knight master progression works as well as the way knight can form off of any starting career.

Also the Jedi Signature ability is insanely good once you fill it out...

Peerless Interception

Once per Session as an out of turn Incidental the character can activate Peerless Interception for 2 Destiny points.

For the next two rounds when the character uses parry or reflect they can reduce the damage by an additional amount equal to their force rating.

If fully kitted out its 1 Destiny point Twice a session for 4 rounds you only need to spend strain on the first activation of parry and reflect, you can crit on a despair if you have improved parry or Improved Reflect activate a weapon quality

and once per round activate improved Reflect or Improved Parry without needing a despair or threat to do so...

Especially once you factor in that the spec progression of Padawan-Knight-Master nets you Force Rating 4, plenty of ranks in Parry and Reflect, and Improved versions of both, tacking on a fully-upgraded Peerless Interception can make a Jedi Master all but untouchable in a fight while doling out damage here and there as needed.

Given how potent this one Signature Ability can be, I'm not convinced that the Jedi career really needs a second one. Given that with many of the careers, one of their two signature abilities has more of a narrative bent, if the Jedi career were to get a second signature ability, odds are it'd follow that trend and be something that is ultimately at the discretion/whim of the GM.

I agree. The other signature ability if there is one would be very narrative. Any thoughts on what an appropriate narrative style signature jedi ability might be?

An interesting addition to the Jedi career would be a Fallen Jedi, with talents that highlight how they use their temple training against the Jedi, l obviously plenty of conflict talents, and perhaps something called Improved Shroud.

What are people's thoughts on the Jedi Master talent tree?

I really like it. it really gives that mastery feeling. The whole right side makes you really hard to crit. the left side does a lot of making you feel like the force flows through your character.

Well, Centre of Being is completely undermined by the fact that a Triumph can trigger a critical hit. :(

If they get one. Nothing is a sure thing. It just makes a crit less likely. Keep in mind by the time you are in this tree you are probably pretty hard to hit.

I like Flows Through All Things, and Powerful Ally. Those two powers offer something unique. In addition, Improved Researcher is actually deceptively powerful. Adding Researcher X ranks worth of advantage to a skill check is pretty nice.

It feels like something that a FR3 character could get into, once they got all their core force powers and skill ranks covered.

You'd be hard to hit if your GM lets you stack defense abilities: armour with +1/2 defense, parry/reflect up to 5+, Sense (40-50Xp worth), maybe a defensive stance/dodge if your tree has one. That's a LOT of IFs and MAYBEs. And all that XP is not spent on actual RP skills like social, exploration, force powers, etc.

What Centre Of Being does best is prevent 4 Advantage turning into a Crit with +30 added to the roll, something the nastiest ranged weapons, vibro weapons, and Lightsabers, can do quite easily.
