Reach of the Empire OOC

By Edgehawk, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion Beginner Game

Hey all, sorry about the delay, it's been a crazy weekend.

Anyway, I'm planning on being a Human (Empire duh), but the three ideas I'm kicking around are a sharpshooter/assassin (but I don't want to step on @player3333902 's toes), a pilot (but then we're dealing with a split party more often than not (-1 for GM ease) (plus stepping on @Rabobankrider 's toes), or a mechanic (stepping on @Imperial Stormtrooper 's toes).

I figured face was covered by @btmaja .

I'd be happy with any of these. If anyone thinks one would be better than the others let me know. I also toyed with infiltrator, (which would be totally different) but the "one track" tree seems a little confining. But I'd be up for trying it if that works best. Anyone have any preferences?

Honestly, any of those could be viable options. I'm using the "putting together a task force" strategy for some initial party cohesion. Specific thoughts:

  • A Sharpshooter/ Assassin would fit well, and the Skullduggery/ Stealth niche is still lacking (if you're looking to fill a gap). I don't necessarily think two PCs with long guns would detract from one another. There's often more than one target, and when there's just one... a backup shooter is a good idea.
  • A dedicated Pilot could still work, especially one that is also skilled in Planetary. There is a Flight of three TIEs on the ship the party is reporting to. Most space/atmospheric combat would be in close support of the rest of the team, so split.. sort of.. but not so much. As special forces, cross-training is expected, and remember you can choose any Universal spec (free) to round out your character. Being a pilot would not preclude your involvement in non-piloting scenes.
  • Mechanic is pretty much wide open. Imp's character has the Intelligence for it, but is an entirely Computers/ Knowledge-based build. Your mechanic could also be a Pilot build, if you're already leaning in that direction (Rigger or Driver, maybe)?

The Executioner is a force-user, so there is that built-in distinction. If you do go with some sort of Pilot, maybe check with Rabo to see which spec he's looking to branch into. @oneeyedmatt87

I was planning to take pilot primarily because we didn't have one at the time, I'm happy to have @oneeyedmatt87 take over that role and I can focus more on combat.

Once i get the lightsaber, Veitra will become more of a spec ops assassin, infiltrating to kill, though she will snipe when needed. She’s not a battlefield marksman, but a sniper assassin, so if ya wanna be a battlefield marksman @oneeyedmatt87 , go ahead! :)

As Edgehawk said, my character is based on computers and knowledge skills, so mechanic wouldn't step on my character's toes really, even though both would have high intelligence, so don't be concerned about me if you want to make that character @oneeyedmatt87

@Edgehawk Does Briar recognize or know of the older officer?

The man is legend in the Intelligence community, and those old enough to remember his Naval service. Colonel Wullf Yularen. Briar would recognize him from ISB Central Office, though she has never spoken to him personally.

Whoops. I completely did not know an ic was alr set up :0 sadly im rlly so busy atm... maybe i can finish the form tmrw since its a 1 day hol... howpfully. Srry!

Fr the pistol, i’m thinkin either

No worries. I just didn't want the game to lose momentum before it even started. We're off to a soft start, introducing characters as they are completed.

Let's go with the BR-219, if you're wanting to graduate to a lightsaber quickly.

Alright! Will add it in.

Thank you all for such a warm welcome. I've been kicking a few ideas around (with your input) and I was thinking of taking Ace: Driver as my primary and Scavenger as my Universal (definitely has the mechanic vibe, plus it definitely can't hurt if we're cut off). I'll try to get a character up in the next day or so. Does that work for everyone?

Is 10 starting duty the proper amount for trading in XP? Also: Standard starting credits?

Sounds great!

10 Duty, prior to adjustment.

Submit a suitable armor choice for approval, and consider it issued. You may also submit a personal item or weapon for approval. Starting credits for other gear.

@Edgehawk , finished veitra. I won’t be buying any other equipment as of now, cause i think the empire can provide those?

Looks good. Don't sweat the small stuff, if you don't wish to do so.

You do still need to select a specific morality (strength/weakness), however.

Alright, done!

Brecor is looking good! Don't forget to add one universal spec (for free), and spend an additional +30 XP post-creation (in either tree). Imperial Academy Cadet, Ship Captain, Republic Naval Officer would be most appropriate for your character, maybe?

Consider officer armor issued (vest and helmet- use stats for cresh luck armor). A service pistol will also be issued, though you may select a personal weapon as well. If there is an officer-related item you want to add, go for it. @btmaja

After Friday morning, I most likely won't be posting again until Sunday night or Monday morning, just so you guys know.

Alright, I'll figure out what to get as the personal weapon and item. For now, I'm leaning towards Ship Captain, so that's likely what I'll go with for my Universal spec.

@btmaja You can introduce yourself into the scene at your convenience.

Lt. Sturit knows he is to be joining the small bridge crew aboard an Adz-class patrol destroyer located somewhere in the Outer Rim. He also knows this meeting has to do with being part of a special task force, operating from the ship.

@oneeyedmatt87 Still onboard? No rush, but if you have a sheet, I'd like to see it even if it's a work in progress. You're caharacter will likewise know you're reporting for a briefing about joining a task force at a new station.

@Edgehawk absolutely I'm in. I'm sorry for the delay, finals week is coming up, so it's crunch time. Here's my character sheet in progress: http://swsheets.com/c/6aiwrmn6z-castar-arkmeda . I haven't charged him (in credits) for anything that was anything that I felt was semi-standard issue (I tried not to be extravagant with gear), but am willing to pay for anything additional (attachments, mods), just wanted to make sure you were OK with adding them without rolls.

Of course, if you think I need to make modifications to the sheet in any way let me know.

And also, if this is dragging the opening scene out too much, we could make my character's intro as they board the landing ship (easy to introduce a pilot that way), but hopefully it won't be that long.

@oneeyedmatt87 No worries. The next couple weeks will be busy for many, including myself at times. I believe I set a hard start date for the 22nd of May, which is still two weeks off.

Following Castar's impromptu recruitment, he was sent to train as an Imperial Combat Driver- https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Imperial_combat_assault_tank_pilot

-and has now been promoted to Sergeant and is rejoining the team that initially found him- this will be the same S.C.A.R. Squad @Rabobankrider is joining.

As for organization, I'm treating the Stormtrooper Corps as its own entity, but units often operate out of Army and Naval installations and ships. Likewise, certain specialists could find themselves working within a Stormtrooper unit. Sergeant Arkmeda can be either Army or Corps, whichever you'd prefer, but in most circumstances it shouldn't really matter too much.

With your scavenger character, starting with mods seems thematic. Select an item or weapon and mod it, as your unique item. Further mods, pay half (gearhead), and consider it done- unless you'd prefer to roll on Orokos. I honestly haven't delved deeply into the crafting rules, but if you think it would be advantageous to roll for the mods, you may.

Just got my tech issues sorted out. I'll be able to start posting tomorrow.

@btmaja @oneeyedmatt87

Don't forget to roll for Destiny, at your convenience.
