KeyForge GEM Troubleshooting Discussion

Hello

Had a pairing issue during Round 2 in a 7-person event.
After 1 round, we had three 1-0, one bye 'winner', and three 0-1.
For R2, pairings for the 3 matches were:
1-0 vs 1-0
1-0 vs 0-1
bye 'winner' vs 0-1

In R2 shouldn't the bye 'winner' and a 1-0 play against each other and two of the 0-1's play with the 3rd 0-1 getting a bye?

Since we gave prizes based on record, we wound up with two people at 3-0.

Thanks for any advice.

Steve

What version of the software are you running? The current version is 1.1.12 - We fixed an issue with the debut release and small events. Also I can't see who played who and there is an effort made to avoid replays. Perhaps that will give you some places to look!

Although I am logged in to our store account, I am unable to schedule a Tournament style event, only casual. Any ideas?

You may not have any allocated. That is an issue you can bring up with your Asmodee retail contact and they can help with that process.

Hi guys,

i am playing in keyforge tournaments quite regularly and when chainbound was super new 3 weeks ago I attended my shops first chainbound event. I think there were some issues uploading the redults and up till now no one that participated got any chains or aember... the store owner said he already send you guys an email to ask to reupload the tournament somehow but he has no answer yet.

I must say I was pretty disappointed in that store for advertising chainbound events and then not resulting in any chains/shards... I stopped going to their tournament for a week and now they have fixed the problem and chainbounds run smoothly. But will you be able to reupload the first one?

Melbourne, Good Games Wednesday’s tournaments if that helps!

Hi! Thanks for playing KeyForge! This is really a forum for retailers and not players, but let me address this for all the player base through you, OK? The first release was great when compared to the predecessor, but as first releases and first year models go, it had some clunky parts and some stuff that just could not make it in - so there were some issues. One of those was the fact that it was so easy to run a Casual Tournament that Casual was sometimes run in error when a more complex Chainbound event was what was really wanted. This is especially hard with brand new software that noone has ever used before. Software highly linked to multiple backend servers across the globe. Please don't blame your retailer, especially since they try so hard to bring you these events and make it right.

In the meantime, the newest release of the software has a fix tool for those problems so that old tournaments can be converted to Chainbound and uploaded for the awards of Æmbershards and Chains. I would not be surprised if that problem is not already being addressed! If you are concerned, just ask them to make sure their GEM is up-to-date and ask if they ran the fix and upload on that old tournament.

In any case, please support your retailers. You have a new game to learn. They have that and so much more!

Enjoy! And thanks for playing!

I am on 1.0.7a. I'll look around and try to find the newest.
There isn't an "update software" under the "Help" menu in the program, is there?

Aha! Thank you very much, I will look into that.

We ran our first official Chainbound event in the shop on Friday 8th March. It ran smoothly, was assigned correctly as "Chainbound" and we uploaded the results at the end. However, we've had reports that despite the deck wins/losses being updated, the digital ambershards have not been received for either participation or victories, only for deck registration.

I have e-mailed GEM support about this but not received any response.

Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.

We had an event that couldn't be reported. After reading this thread, we realize it was done as casual instead of chainbound like we thought. An email has been sent (as requested of others in this thread). Please let me know what to do next. Thanks

We did update to the latest program and tried the switch to chainbound option but it said it was already uploaded. Our players say it is not showing. Help!

added update

Next problem. When we open Gem and log in, our event is not showing. We click schedule and try to log in there but keep getting an "error logging in" message. We have to copy the address from Edge to Chrome to log in and pull up our event. We choose Chicago time for Central but when it pulls into the Gem system instead of showing 3/16 @7pm it says 0:00 3/17.

I had a best of 3 Archon tournament on 3/9. The tournament seems to have unlinked from the event I had created on the website and I'm not sure how to reconnect them. I have the tournament saved but on the website it says it's still 'Active' and has not received results.

Hi guys!

My store has successfully ran Chainbound events since the start. I have scheduled all of my events for the month of March at the start. March 2nd, 9th, and 16th went off without a hitch. However, March 23rd and March 30th, which are scheduled on our dashboard, aren't loading up on the GEM software. When I loaded up the dashboard to delete and recreate those events, it's now no longer showing the Chainbound event series. Are Chainbound events over with? If you can provide any guidance as to why my events aren't showing up in the software, hopefully before this weekend, that would be greatly appreciated.

Can I please ask when we are likely to see either manual entry options or camera controls in GEM?

I emailed last month to discuss the issue where our Mac uses a built-in camera, but due to lack of camera controls, I'm not able to scan the QR codes. I tried a third-party app which is supposed to give me manual camera controls, but this has not helped.

I'm afraid I'm not willing to spend extra money on a new camera, partially due to seeing other retailers still being unable to use the software with external cameras, but also because there are so many reasons why we would need manual entry anyway (player forgot phone, player's phone isn't charged, player's phone screen is too cracked to scan, player doesn't even own a smart phone, QR code refuses to scan regardless, etc).

I have players asking me for Chainbound events, and it's disappointing when I have to tell them that I'm unable to due to what feels like an oversight in the software. (Apologies if that's not the case, but I genuinely don't understand why manual entry was not included from the start for situations like the above!)

Here is what you might already know as it is already out there: If you attended one of the Vault Tours you got a sneak peek at some technology we are working on for those with camera issues. When we are convinced it is ready, it will get released. In the meantime, what we also did for the Vault Tours was to tell everyone to print their Profile and bring it from home as a backup. This way, they have their Profile QR Code and their decks with the QR Code built right at hand, no phone required. While it is true that a few retailers still have problems, it is also true that other retailers who have the exact same computer and camera have no problems at all and send us notes gushing about how fast they can kick off a tournament. It is also true that retailers all across the globe are having great success and are running and uploading tournaments every day. Additionally, GDPR rules in the EU (something we are forced to comply with no matter where the software is being run) prohibit us from exposing some information in some ways to some people. Add it all together and you should have a complete picture of where we are and the future that exists.

Creating free software which will work with both Windows and Mac loaded with any webcam driver and physical webcam which can offer the user webcam settings as a part of the software is not in our plans today. We prefer to concentrate on easy to use software to run our games with the highest integrity.

As you know by virtue of being a Mac user, the Mac has always been a very different animal. Even given that, we have run very large events on Macs and retailers are running events successfully on their Macs every single day. Perhaps you could research if there are differences in your camera's focus, driver settings or physical lighting at your scanning location that may help. If you chose a camera which does not have independent driver access for the Mac you might be able to research other apps for the Mac that allow you to modify your webcam settings for your environment - I found some interesting possibilities when I did a Google search on "mac webcam settings app".

Even this may not be the answer you were looking for, I hope that it answers all your questions and gives you a direction.

To make sure that the correct events were chosen and uploaded, we have limited the events the GEM Client can see to history plus 24 hours in advance. If they are on your Event Portal, you have them - even if you can't see them yet in the Client!

Not at this time. We ask everyone to check to see if they are on the latest version so that we can get you to the latest version which does do a version check to make sure that you are compliant. We give you time to update so that you don't get stuck not being able to run your event unless you ignore the warning over and over. Simply log into your retailer account and go to Downloads to get the new version.

I was successful in working with my LGS in setting up Chainbound immediately. Printed the directions. Logged into the website - Downloaded the app. A quick call to the Asmodee rep to unlock the allocation of events, and all is well. We are running week 9 this Friday without any issues or problems. I have even used the GEM app to run non-chainbound events including sealed events without an issue. We have 2 stores locally who are running chainbound and many saying they are trying but not getting a response to get set up. I am an ambassador to the St. Louis, MO area helping any store who requests to set up and run events. Help Me Help Them!!

Long way to the question- What is the actual process to follow to be set up and approved for chainbound. So I can walk into a store, sit down with an owner and say.....

Thank you guys so much for all that you do and Long Live Keyforge.

I apologize is this is somewhere and I missed it.

Hey Jeff,

Hey all,

I see that the software now supports other variants like Reversal. Will my players be rewarded with Amebershards for participating/winning in such events?

Keep up the great work!

Jeff, could we please get some answers for stores having issues getting set up and getting allocations. There are several posts here now with these issues. The game is dying quickly at my store b/c the store did not r/c the initial info for setup. They have contacted [email protected] with no response. They have contacted FFG Organized Play with no response. Their Asomdee and Alliance reps seem lost on the issue. Please, is there a contact to help stores get this set up?

Well, I give up. It’s been 6 weeks since I first asked for contact info for help with setup issues and still no response.

I can only apologize. The GEM Client is just an interface to a larger world and being dismayed at the GEM Client is somewhat analogous to being dismayed at your TV for the cable company not delivering your movie - you have to contact the right person. As far as I can tell, you did all the right things except perhaps that email address. Please make your contacts about Organized Play to the Organized Play team: [email protected]

I believe that contacting people through these channels is the right thing but other than that all I can do is say that I hear you, apologize, ask for patience, and promise to forward your request.

I do ask that everyone keep in mind that globally launching a brand new game is a huge task with more moving parts than you might imagine, which all have to be coordinated in many languages and across many borders and with many partners - all done by a core dedicated staff who are literally devoting all of our waking hours trying to create the best that we can for the most that we can - and we all know that is going to have an imperfect result no matter how hard we try. As we breathe life into this beast and get its path laid out to all corners, there are bound to be bumps big and small - but know that we are doing our dead level best because we want you to succeed in helping us build the game.

Don't you hate replies like "it depends"? At the Vault Tours we are manually awarding players in all kinds of Casual games, but currently only the sanctioned (allocated) Chainbound events which you hold are uploaded - and the Æmbershard awards come from those uploads. As for future sanctioned events, perhaps you need to turn to Logos and ask Timetraveller what's in store - for sure, this game holds many surprises - for all of us!

Thanks for the compliment on the software - watch for more awesomeness soon!

Hello all,

Alex Watkins here. I want to thank Jeff for being on here and answering peoples questions. I also want o thank everyone for taking the time to contact us and give feedback. I have made a couple of videos to help stores get set up on GEM. the first video goes through eh step required to set up and the second goes through a ChainBound event.

Hey Jeff,

thanks for taking the time to answer!

I'm not sure whether I rather like or hate these kind of answers, actually I'd say it depends ;)

I do have another one though, but I'm not sure if it's on the GEM side of things or an error with the Master Vault. Anyway, here goes:

Regarding awesome feautres... being able to see when and where my players earned their Aembershards? I looove it!
However some of the older tournaments only have a number where the name should be (like 105597 for example).
Is there a way to restore the "proper" tournament names?

My apologies if this isn't actually your problem.

Sincerely,
Sebastian

Need workaround advice.

I want to run a Chainbound tourney tomorrow to give away one of our GAMA decks. Our regular chainbound league already happened this week so our one shot is gone until Monday. OK, I figure I will cancel next week's Chainbound league event and recreate my Tourney for Monday, and we'll just run it tomorrow ahead of time. Still keeping within the one a week rules. But now I'm not finding the tourney on the list, and I'm hearing an update only lets you see tourneys within 24 hours. Help!

Wouldn't it make more sense to show tourneys 1 week out than 24 hours? We are still bound by the same 1 week rules, so shenanigans are still being prevented. That way we can manage our one-a-week tourneys better, and employ workarounds to these shortcomings in the software until they get fixed.

Edited by ImBoardGames

We had a couple tourneys in the past that did not fire and now they keep showing up in my dropdown menu. So I'd like to cancel them. But I can't cancel a past tourney (even though there were no results posted). Any way to scrub these off my dropdown?

I would just keep my regular Chainbound event and add a Casual event for the special giveaway! The players are responsible for knowing how many Chains their deck has and what its Power Level is - and we have that information right on their Master Vault application (and they can print all that out if they don't have a phone). You can create your own event and even have them show you the Deck Statistics when they register! Yes, they will not earn Æmbershards on any event that is uploaded - but you are giving a special prize and loads of fun. You can hold these events as often as you like - it is only the allocated events which can only be run weekly.

The 24 hour rule is set by the server and not by the Client update. The GEM Client shows you everything the server delivers! If that gives you a problem or to answer your other question about deleting old events you will have to ping Organized Play at this email address: [email protected]

Hope that helps!
