No, but seriously, forgive @mirrorcat , he’s clearly a Shiba, and thus lacking the intelligence, wisdom, restrain, and modesty of us, the Isawa. Therefore, he might have been too hasty to take a side in this conflict.

We the Phoenix will support whoever let us play with maho the most fitted for the throne show the greatest interest in learning obscure magical rituals that may or may not involve copious amounts of blood being spilled and possibly having their heart ripped out in exchange for eternal life, willing to maintain the peace and our traditions, and will do so after long and profound deliberations between our most prominent and wise members, that is, the Masters of the Elemental Council.

Fixed that for you.

Oi. Get over here, some Asako with some weird tattoos wanna have a little chat...

The problem is that it's hard to explain the various things that we study as Phoenix, because most other people wouldn't understand what we're talking about - especially when it isn't actually maho.

So....about that Tsunami?

I mean, don't worry - as noted by @Manchu and @Doji Hyōkin , relatively soon it'll never have happened*. But for the moment, you've got an answer to that, right? I mean, elemental disasters are kind of your entire remit....

* On a related note - did the Gozoku not happen before or after the battle of White Stag didn't happen? Keep losing track of these things.

The first Gozuko coup was in 391 and they were ousted from power in 435 when Hantei Yugozohime, who had been fostered to the Lion Clan challenged her brother for the right to the throne. The Battle of White Stag was 442 when Hantei Yugozohime died in a cannon barrage peacefully in her sleep. She was succeeded by her brother Hantei Muhaki as her only child, a daughter, was barely a year old at the time of her death.

They both didn't happen during the reign of the same Hantei?

The history books for that period of the dynasty must be interesting.

That was a turbulent time for sure. Yugozohime put down the Gozuko and for her troubles died to Gaijin cannon, her brother who took the throne until her daughter was of age had no Children and her daughter bucked tradition and rather than marry a Doji married a Matsu and than proceeded to have no children and therefore no direct descendant, so following her death the son of a cousin of Hantei Yugozohime was determined to be the closest blood relative and took the name Hantei the X thus beginning the tradition of the Emperor taking only the family name.

So tempted to post a picture. But people around here get upset at the though of ladies pillow fighting. So I'll just post a link and people can look if they want. It's all SFW and would have pretty much been the entire last panel.
