Also, you know what's not an ace?

Vader without afterburners (unless we use Dale Cromwell's definition, then he most definitely still is an ace).

Hi, Hyperspace.

True!

I don't know why you did that to us.

and three people do it, three, can you imagine, three people walking in, singing a bar of Alice's Restaurant and walking out. They may think it's an organization. And can you, can you imagine fifty people a day, I said fifty people a day walking in singin' a bar of Alice's Restaurant and walking out. And friends, they may thinks it's a movement! And that's what it is, the Alice's Restaurant Anti-Massacree Movement, and all you got to do to join is sing it the next time it comes around on the guitar, with feeling. So we'll wait for it to come around on the guitar, here and sing it when it does.

Here it comes:

You can get anything you want, at Alice's Restaurant
You can get anything you want, at Alice's Restaurant
Walk right in, it's around the back
Just a half a mile from the railroad track
You can get anything you want, at Alice's Restaurant

That was horrible. If you want to end war and stuff, you got to sing loud I've been singing this song now for twenty five minutes. I could sing it for another twenty five minutes. I'm not proud... or tired. So we'll wait till it comes around again, and this time with four part harmony and feeling

We're just waiting for it to come around is what we're doing.

Well, technically Vader with Precog and no Afterburners is an ace, but again Hyperspace.

As an aside, messing with both Vader and Holo, Holo might push Vaders on the fence between FCS and Passive Sensors towards Passive Sensors. When he faces an FCS Vader, he's such a troll. "Here, friend locked by Vader, take my evade!" "Oh no, Vader's locked me! I'll just shove it onto a ship behind the gas cloud/out of arc!" Passive Sensors make him and his friends actually fear the Dark Lord, although in Hyperspace he's a lot more manageable without boost from Afterburners/Precog.

He can be an ace if he wants it bad enough

Hi, Hyperspace.

So you're saying you need access to boost to be considered an ace?

Because he has all the other makings of what you'd want in an ace.

Would anyone be an ace if you could only boost straight?

Only if you can tractor opponents afterwards.

I'm no resistance player, but, do you know who I'm hoping will be an Ace in hyperspace?

Why the h*ll not, throw caution to the wind.

I *am* saying boost >> barrel roll in most game states. yes.

Vader is a helluva alpha, though.

I was thinking his stunned pilot was made for his ability... but without that crit, there's no consequences for going over gas clouds and debris.

He's still an ace in my book 🤷🏻‍♂️

If the definition of Ace includes Slammy McSlamSlam...?

"Look at me! I'm not doing anything, but zooming all over the place and slowly killing myself!!"

Actually seems fun.

I agree with this message. Dash is the man and Shadows of the Empire was an amazing game. Or 7 year old me didn't know any better, but I doubt it.

I kid, I kid. I can confirm Yaeger is super fun to play, and I wish I had put title and ASlam on him so maybe he'd be actually useful once he got to where he was going.

I wish the Fireball had LOCK by default. Slamming and locking might make its gun worth something.

Yaeger's ability to get within R1 pretty reliably off of a SLAM is cool, but at 38 points he's competing with Optics Heroic Blue RZ2s with far worse time on target despite being I5.

An ace is the one the other pilots call ace. Because he's just the best and most handsomest.

Or the one who walks into a room of pilots that don't know him and declares he is an ace and it sticks and is used to poke fun forever after and he has to earn trust through a series of deadly heroics that cure his arrogance and teach him the meaning of friends.

Or the one who doesn't know or fly with other pilots at all and just decides he's an ace because he's 10 and has big dreams.

It's also a good name for a dog.

An ace is an unusually cool guy, a huge a*se, a kid or dog.

This sounds like the title of a Gen Z autobiography.

Hi, Hyperspace.

Burners Vader most definitely is an ace.

Ace: a ship which derives a significant portion of its value from avoiding damage, by avoiding arcs entirely with i5+ pre/repositioning, and/or by powerful stacking/passive mods.

Or, in other words, "FIGHT ME YOU COWARDS!"

Wait! I remembered the thing, I'm definitely doing it,

It's a little meaningless now though isn't it? Not just in the sense that all things are essentially random and without meaning, but also that the thing is no longer a secret, and ergo probably not worth hiding?

Well, how about we start posing our definitions of aces and poke holes in them until we arrive at a satisfactory inkling of an idea?

Did you know there are three kinds of aces?😎

Joking aside, I'll go with the super basic definition of an Ace being able to take down more than their number. They do this by tapping three characteristics:

Offense - ship that have high ratings in this category have the ability have the ability to put the hurt on either by doing consistent damage or big spikes. They use this to steamroll the opposition. Wedge, boost less Vader, and Fen Rau are archetypal ships that focus in this category. Redline also is worth mention.

Defense - Ships with high ratings in this category mitigate damage coming their way, surviving incoming fire that would pulverize other ships. They plug enemy offensives long enough for they or their allies take down opposition. Archetypal aces would be Rexler, Inquisitors, and Norra.

Maneuver - Ships with high maneuverability tend to slip, flank, and bushwhack their foes. Archetypal ships include Soontir and Duchess.

Just because a ship has high marks in one aspect does not mean it's not serviceable in other. For example, Wedge can arc dodge certain things due to high high initiative and reposition options.

Naturally, many high power ships have high marks in multiple categories, especially once upgrades come into play. R2 7B Jedi, for example, have high maneuverability, consistent Offense, and decent damage mitigation.
