Star Wars: In The Pits OOC

By Richardbuxton, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny Beginner Game

Hi guys, welcome to the game, I'll use this post to fill out the game details and track things like Destiny and Initiative. Fell free to discuss your characters, their personalities, backgrounds and their relationship to each other here.

Destiny:

Light: 5

Dark: 2

Initiative:

NPC: 4/3

PC: 2/2

PC: 1/2

NPC: 1/2

PC: 0/4

PC: 0/2

Players and their punching bags:

@Matt Skywalker with Michael Gorwan the Human Commando, Muscle Tank with a Melee weapon

@Arctanaar with Vyrr Tavik the Chadra Fan Hunter, a Long Ranged Intellectual monster.

@Revanchist with Sevrath Arjun the Arkanian Healer with a keen interns in the natural instincts of species.

@Shlambate with Bull the Zabrak Aggressor who will threaten to smash your head in... then do it if you don't comply.

Some NPC's for the Gladiatorial training company:

A Trandoshian Doc, a butcher, a bit sadistic, who loves rubbing in that he can just grow back amputated limbs.

A Zeltron Champion, dirty secret is they actually can't fight that well, they just get others to do the dirty work and then take the glory.

A paranoid Rodian mechanic, who was a part of a crew, the leader of which fell into debt shortly before the mechanic left, and now worries about that captain going after them (if the captain is alive) and getting blamed for that debt, so that the creditor will go after them.

Sleazy Devaronian who is out for profit and rigging fights, loves to gamble and is up for everything unlawful.

Okay, so I am currently choosing my species+specialisation.

  1. Green Nikto Guardian/Warden or Guardian/Armorer (4/2/3/3/3/1 after Dedication, starting bonus: lower Morality). The self-immolating Brawler I described.
  2. Hutt Seeker/Hunter (4/3/3/2/3/1 after Dedication, starting bonus: +10 XP). The huge problem with this choice is that many people may find issue with a Hutt PC, let alone a Force sensitive one, which is why I should ask everyone's approval before picking this option. As an upside, I would be able to start with 7 Soak, which would allow me to be our tank (although, I Nikto would not be far behind, with 6 Soak in the case of Warden, and 7 in the case of Armorer). I would also be able to better combat Deception than with the other two characters.
  3. Chadra Fan Seeker/Hunter (2/4/4/3/1/2 after Dedication, starting bonus: lower Morality). With this pick, apart from the obvious focus on shooting, I would also try to make and use grenades.

Note, I am rather bad at using Deception, so the main uses of Cunning for me will be navigation and Skulduggery. What are everyone's thoughts regarding this?

I think that you should use 3. Though 2 is the only one out of the question for me

So my character is almost officially ready. However, given I have a ton of credits to spend (Brawl weapons are so cheap), I am wondering what would be the cost to have mods pre-installed on my weapons/armor.

I'm gonna need some time been busy this week, haven't had the time to sit down and build a character.

Let's say 4x the cost of mods, further adjusted by the rarity of the mod in the location as normal prices would be. (Obviously rarity isn't so much of an issue at the start, just throwing iron for later on)

If anyone has a better house rule then feel free to chime in.

Edit: buying a vehicle, mount or pet could use up a bunch too

Have yet to pick name and equipment. Regarding equipment, what are your thoughts on Auto-fire? Would limiting the number of times a single target can be hit with the quality to one be a fair way to avoid rocket tag (so, the primary target can be hit twice, and the rest can only be hit once)?

just an idea: maybe whoever doesn't get a light saber can contribute a portion of the 9000 credits into a communal pot to buy a group vehicle.

Still doing a bit of tweaking, might dump a couple Enforcer talents for another couple Martial Artist stuff. Pushing out the same damage as a Heavy Blaster Rifle each turn for the Strain cost is going to be fun. The vamblades are forearm mounted and the blast knuckles is a glove, so I'm pretty sure I can have them equipped at the same time, just obviously not used at the same time.

Honestly im happy to leave Auto Fire as RAW. In the fights where those weapons are allowed your likely to dominate, but some fights have weapon limits. Then if you are wandering down the street most patrol officers, bouncers, gang heavies, security guards etc will be wanting to see all your permits. No bar or cantina will let you inside with an auto fire weapon and any private residence will likely refuse you entry too. Government buildings probably just confiscate them and ask for your credentials.

Basicly what I'm say is if you make sure you have a side arm or spare weapon and are sensible about what you carry when then I'll make sure you get a chance to really have fun with your big gun.

Are the Vamblades retractable? If so is it a Manoeuvre or Incidental with those to draw them? I'm AFB and can't remember.

Interesting question for you all, I was intending this game to mostly be on Nar Shaddaa which essentially negates the need for a starship... so what do I give you for player resources? Are there any decent airspeeders you want? A Swoop each? (Anyone ever played Road Rash!) Or a Business? Or some other idea?

Swoops would be a good idea perhaps. Maybe some sort of agency that promotes our fights?

It doesn't say. They are retractable, and it says it takes "a simple flick of the wrist." Make of that what you will.

Well, that does leave a few issues.

  • Firstly, it's going to be hard for you to give Auto-fire weaponry to competent enemies with support without likely killing us due to the rocket-tagy nature of the quality.
  • Secondly, nemeses with less than about 50 wound threshold and without support aren't going to live long (unless our groip dies), which you may dislike (I don't, actually).
  • Thirdly, not all Auto-fire weapons are heavy. Some of them are fairly small, like carbines (weapons from Endless Vigil and Lords of Nal Hutta come to mind, forgot the names, but the one from EV has damage 8 ( actually, it is GLX Firelance, and it has damage 7, my bad ), the one from LoNH has damage 7).

I can live with Auto-fire as RaW, but not all may find it to their liking.

I would like a business, but I think that transport is more important. I will try to see, if it is feasible for us to have both (business as a group resource, and transport as bought on the starting funds).

Misremembered the damage of the weapon I was referring to

You know that when you hit with Auto Fire you're not required to spend all Advantage on hitting again and again?

I am, but yes, I was talking about the cases where most Advantages go into AF.

In any case, I think that if AF is going to prove to be an issue, we can come to an agreement to curb it in an ad-hoc way.

EDIT: found a suitable transport. Passenger landspeeder, F&D core, p. 255. Costs 3500 credits.

Sure, if it gets out of hand we can try some changes, but let's just see how it goes.

Decent choice for sure

That is a good choice. Very cheap too, so we could probably buy it through a collective pool and then have our asset be something else entirely.

Also, here's my (practically) completed character. Depending on how much I need to put toward a group speeder I may add on a set of those Pierce mods for my Vamblades.

I am ready to put all my remaining money into the speeder. I can also make some rearrangaments in my inventory to get a couple hundred more credits.

As I have said, I would prefer the group resource to be a business. A sort of mechanics shop, perhaps?

An idea could be a business fixing the mechanical components of arenas.

Or you could be a "Fighting Team" n the same way a motorsports team is often business or in the vein of WWE!

I'm sticking to melee combat as a primary way of attack. No one is gonna stop me from taking a stick into a Bar. I just need to work on the character, I'll give the 9000gc to the communal pool since I have no way of realisticly explaining why my character would have a Lightsaber and we can certainly earn it through play. I'm gonna play a Zabrak, can he be from Dathomir? I was thinking he was stolen and is property of Zero the Hutt?
