Glossary of Armada slang & abbreviations

It is - I was waiting for the dust to settle between "BTAvenger" (22 hits in a forum search), "BTvenger" (21) and "AvengerBT" (14). "BTA" alone doesn't make the cut (at 2 hits, including the 1 from your above post).

Soon we're going to be too lazy to type more than BTA.

Search your feelings...

And then the Glossary will reflect that. But not until then. :P

"BTvenger" is already in my Swype dictionary.

I will not be defeated.

ICB - Ion Cannon Batteries

Satovation must be a thing... If Sato was a thing.

I laughed a lot when I read it from @Ginkapo

Its very common amongst the people who do use Sato.

... But, y'know, if you're not one of us cool kids....

I do not use rebel stuff so no idea about how you snob kids call things. :P but I laughed a lot anyways.

Can you add a definition to alpha strike so we stop getting multiple variants please.

I just wanted to say thank you for creating this list!

What is "Burst Damage?" I think I know, but I want to be sure.

Burst damage is doing an awful lot of damage in one go. A Raider with concentrate fire and Ordnance Experts using its External Racks can do a phenomenal amount of burst damage (for its cost) in one activation, but other good examples would be classic torpedo destroyers like Gladiators and MC30s.

This is often contrasted to a more consistent stream of damage (sometimes known as "DPS,"(damage per second) which is more of an RTS/MMORPG concept) that doesn't hit the same highs but can be applied more regularly. A well-used Assault Frigate getting its broadside attacks in with Gunnery Teams from rounds 2-6 will usually do more total damage than an MC30 that makes only one or two passes in the whole game, but the damage comes in smaller packets and is easier to anticipate (and thus plan for/mitigate defensively), and thus less remarkable, than the "and then suddenly a ton of damage against that ONE GUY."

Burst damage is generally superior for quickly destroying key pieces and can overwhelm otherwise-solid defenses by simply being too much to handle, if only for a short time. Burst damage units often do not have the stamina to keep the approach up long-term and will usually struggle against targets they can't quickly dispatch and don't favor slugging matches, as they usually can't take a punch back very well. While DPS units want a constant low-to-moderate intensity firefight, which favors their approach, burst damage units want a brief high intensity fight, often followed by running away to regroup and/or avoid retribution.

That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure if it was referring to attacks that penetrated the shields in addition to massive damage. Thanks Snip!

Added AFFM, EF, IF, StM, HMC80, LMC80, LTP.

Minor updates throughout.

Took a few months. Guess that’s “soon” to some ?

Well, to be honest BTAvenger does have the greater amount of hits overall (68, vs 43 for BTA), but usage over time is definitely increasing for BTA and decreasing for all other variants.

Since I’m mostly using BTVenger, I’m in the minority camp ?

By a long shot. Perhaps not in the number of hits, but definitely in the number of users.

I have to say I find BTVenger the most pleasant abbreviation, but GK is right that BTA is the inevitable winner due to its conciseness. It's also the one most benefitting from a glossary entry.

Much as I hate to admit that @Green Knight was right about anything --to say nothing of being wrong myself--I can definitely concede that BTA is the variant most in need of clarification. :)

That's the beauty of BTAvenger and BTVenger. They don't need clarification.

Added OS, WAB.

I am waiting for the first YMCA fleet. Yavaris+Exodus+Awings/CR90A? @Blail Blerg weren't you who wanted to implement some fleet naming like this?

Let's do some Scottish fleets too!

Or Burger Fleets! MCWab. MCDouble, Beacon MCDouble... choose your MCMenu

@DiabloAzul ready for these? I could cut this crazyness if you added Dorito for the Quasar.

Oops. The worst is that I meant scotish. Not sure why I swap both.
