Sorastro's Painting

By Sorastro, in Imperial Assault Painting and Modification

Thank you so much for your great Tutorials!

And I would like to ask you a Question. At the moment I do plan to paint the Royal Guard, but I would like to speed it up a little by using Quikeshade (strong tone). Would you recommend it? And which Color should I use for the basecoat and to highlight the robe?

Thank you so much again!

(And I'm a little sorry for my... not that well... english ;-) )

Is there any reason not to just follow Sorastrso's video tutorial for the Royal Guard? The shade step takes less than a minute to do!

:)

If you wanted to try it I'd suggest a Mephiston Red base coat, then a few bold highlights with Evil Sunz Scarlet, then slap the Quickshade on to deepen the shadows and smooth the transitions. Let us know how you get on!

(Your English is fine by the way!)

Hey Sorastro thanks for makingn this video I'm almost done with my guards and they look great. I've only painted a few zombicide things so far and these videos are very helpful to new painters. Thanks again

Fantastic work guys! I can't wait to get stuck into the Wave 1 miniatures, although I'm really enjoying preparing Episode 8 - especially after the stress of painting Vader :)

The Dark Lord is so powerful he can cause strain out of play.

Just wanted to say, loved your Vader video. Painted mine this afternoon, and used some of your tips, especially about for the Lightsaber.

Keep up the good work!

Tonight I'll officially have caught up to you Sorastro. A couple of finishing touches on my Vader and I'm there, waiting for your next video with everyone else. Mine is not nearly as neat as yours, but I couldn't have made it look as good without your tips.

A couple of things I've picked up since I started watching your video's prior to painting my figs are the mixed use of gloss and matt varnish and using glazes. I had glazes in my paint kit for the longest time and I've only realized their potential now. I love glazes now. Thanks!

I fully expect by 2088 (around Star Wars XVI The Search for Ewoks ) there will be a Cult of the Perfect Brush dedicated to Sarastro.

Using ewok-hair brushes exclusively?

My Imperial Officer had a slight accident. Some paint pooled up in the eye socket, leaving a flat surface, obscuring any detail. I felt the best course of action was to play it out like Tom Cruise in Valkyrie and give my space fascist a sick eye patch. You'd think the Empire could have a health insurance plan but hey, Palpatine's got bills and Star Destroyers don't grow on trees.

Maybe the Imperial Officers should stop pointing at eye level when they hang out, just sayin'.

I have respect for people who can paint faces. The slightest stray µL of paint can cause a face look like a lump of mashed potatoes.

Thats a bit of an exaggeration! :P

I work in a lab so I deal with µL scales on a daily basis. It's a tiny amount! Although it may be accurate for those that paint eyes and pupils on their minis. I didn't even try that with my officers!

Oh and what an excellent paint job. Love the creativity of the eye patch.

I just finished shinning their boots. I based the elite officer with Castellan Green and washed with 50/50 mix of Nuln Oil and Athonian Camoshade. After that, I brought up the highlights with Cellestra Grey/Castellan Green mix. For my officer with an eye patch, I took my smallest brush and made a dark line with some Reikland Fleshshade and tried to give it some color with a mix of Mephiston Red and Kislev Flesh. Just a touch of the Kislev Flesh on the center of the scar gave it a minute highlight.

(Ignore the terrible caulking job in the background - not my work. Maybe I could blend it into the back splash with some thinned White Scar :) )

Hi, I've never painted minis before, just watched the videos, grabbed myself some materials and Citadel paints; here are the first results:

Great work man! I watched all your videos, they're some of the best painting tutorials I've seen on youtube, I'm looking forward to more.

I vaguely remember at least 1 Imperial officer with an eye patch, I think it may have been Baron Soontir Fel later in his career when he was a Major General with the Empire of the Hand. But that was from the novels, the comics do not depict this. There were sensors on the eye patch that were able to see in different spectrums of light and had tactical readings "patched in" (google glasses) so it was hardly a drawback. Plus bonus on the intimidation factor.

The was another officer, Admiral Tower, who had a red bionic eye, but that was just plain old ugly.

We can't be far off our new video. (:

Thank you very much for the kind words!

EwokCompanion, Gecimen, Murm31 - Great job with your minis, especially your Vader Murm31!

We can't be far off our new video. (:

A little update; I've had a cold & hay fever combo this week so have been a bit sluggish but managed to finish filming Episode 8 and have begun the editing process. My voice is sounding a bit rubbish due to the cold so I may wait a day or two before recording the narrative, and might even get a head start on the filming for Episode 9. So there won't be anything new going up in the next couple of days at least. Thanks once more for you patience!

They look great, however your E-Web needs a little Viagra. ;)

You should totally run with it and make yourself sound like The Emperor in the video.

Take care of yourself, sir. We need you alive to help us noobs with color choices and techniques. :)

Thanks! I've still not yet shaken this cold, but I managed to get several hours of composing done today and even dragged myself out for a 10K run. I've also prepped some practice figures to try some techniques out for Episode 9 so hopefully there won't be too long a wait after Episode 8 :)

I read the above 10K as 10,000 and was like 'huh?'. 10 kilometres. Gotcha!

Have you shaken that cold yet? Hope all is well!

I always hope I can do some painting soon with the guidance of one of your videos!

Thanks Muz! My cold has really been dragging on I'm afraid; However I've put a LOT of hours into the next episode (which is currently the longest yet) and am putting the finishing touches to it as I type using a rough narrative, so as soon as my voice is back to normal it should only be an hours work or so to record and edit the final voice track and render the finished video. Thanks for the well-wishing and as always for your patience!

That's a shame about your lasting cost. No ones likes to be ill!

So, can I assume the video will be for one of the Scum units complete with a new soundtrack?
