Anyone who says FFG arent as cynical as GW.......

By Lilikin, in X-Wing

As it stands, the Empire only benefits from not having a huge ship in Epic games, and I see that as the real issue. It's really hard for the rebels to deal with 300 points of imperials when they're spent 120-150 points on a CR90. I think that once the huge Imp ships are released (and I'm confident it will happen looking at how many of the rules are phrased) they should require at least one huge ship is included by each side. It could be a 2 epic point minimum like Krynn007 suggested.

I'm more excited for the S&V faction's huge ship, the Hound's Tooth, lol.

How's that for jumping to conclusions!

If we ran a poll to see how many people on this board got into the game because of two epic ships that have been around for two months there would be a single respondent.

You're right. If you got into the X-Wing Miniatures Game, a ship-to-ship dogfighting game, to play the Star Wars equivalent to Starfleet Battles, you did it wrong. You should sell your stuff and invest in Armada when it arrives.

Can we all please remember this is a game and is supposed to be fun? The beauty of having all this different stuff is you aren't required to buy it all - You can pick and choose what you please.

The batshit crazy (in general, not you, Krynn) foot stomping and crying that's been going on these forums all day has really made me question the community.

It's a game. It's GenCon. They aren't going to stop releasing product... They've been announcing and releasing new product at a ridiculously fast pace and IMHO it's awesome.

Let's just all take a step back and try to gain a little perspective, eh?

I don't get the hate for Wave 6. I didn't get into X-Wing for epic AT ALL. I have the Rebel epic ships since release and have played them ZERO times. This release to me ensures X-Wing is alive and healthy, not going to be second tier to Armada. I am BEYOND happy and don't care if I ever see Imperial epic ships.

In hindsight it seems it was wrong for FF to release the tantive IV (and to a lesser degree the rebel transport) for x-wing. Slave one/milenium falcon sized was big enough. Anything bigger (huger? epicer?) should go to armada.

I honestly respect where you are coming from. But with a mentality like this, and the way you calmly phrase it... quite frankly I do not want to pick up a pitchfork and torch and march to FFG headquarters. Could you kindly perhaps with a little bit of pizaz and spark rephrase and re-word your clearly thought out response in a way that will raise my blood temperature and make me froth at the mouth with anger and madness.

And you wouldn't be the only one. This is actually quite a problem with Epic.

Well thank you lol.

I was just having a stressful day and was really excited for this big new announcement.

Only to find a third faction.

Something I'm not very find of. So two double whammy.

I bought my tantive and transport only later to see that in all honesty is probably only going to work well in epic games vs another huge ship.

Anyway I was just so super pissed.

Maybe when I calm down I may reconsider, but I have really though about selling what I have as I do not the direction they have taken the game.

Also as excited as I was about armada, I am also afraid that maybe they gave up on epic and now focus on this.

You didn't do your caps holding shift right ?

Nothing denotes more hate than holding down the shift button for dem caps. Specially if you slip sometimes getting stuff written like this : U SUCk

When I Sa ditch product line I meant the Huge ships

I got that, but you're still... not just putting the cart before the horse, but putting the Tesla roadster before the Eohippus. If conclusion-jumping were an Olympic sport, you'd be a favorite to take home the gold. You're getting further ahead of yourself than Spock in JJ Abrams' Star Trek.

Are you in fact Jemery Clarkson?

I'm sorry to anyone from over the pond that won't get that

I got that and am from over the pond, so he can be popular anywhere. That's a fine show.

If it's just a sideline, then why make the rules?

You mean to tell me that it never looked like we were going to get a huge epic ship?

Ya, I feel as though I was ripped off if that is the case.

I never said I was promised but you can't deny that it is odd to release epic tournament rules and one side gets treatment?

You can't help but to think more is coming and buy into it.

Your right about one thing then

You can't trust ffg if that's the case.

You may not realize what "sideline" means. It exists, but it's not a central part of the game.

Do the existing epic ships not work if there's no Imperial counterpart? Are they unplayable? No. They work fine.

And I'm sorry, but the last is BS. You created your own expectation and slapped it on them, and now you're saying they can't be trusted because you assumed something they never even hinted at. That's so divorced from reality I don't even know where to begin.

I honestly do not believe epic was given up on. For the small and rather often forgotten rules update that was included with the August 1st update of tournament rules. I have never seen a game company put out rules for a product that they just released to their customers also have updated tournament rules if they were not going to continue to support said extension of said product.

There is always a first time for everything though...

To be clear, Krynn - I want Imp Epic too... I would also love space stations, prequel ships (yes, I'm one of them) and I think they should have just gone with neutral "play either side" ships instead of a complete 3rd faction ("Crime" isn't a faction, IMHO).

That said, what was announced today is awesome. And there will be much more awesome in the coming months.

I'd be shocked if we didn't get a SW:Rebels tie-in announcement in Oct (when the series premieres) that would include a Gozanti, VCX-100, The Inquisitor's TIE Advanced (different model), and whatever The Phantom is (a shuttle?) (not to be confused with a TIE Phantom).

I'd be shocked. But I won't be pissed if they don't.

I was just as surprised there wasn't a "Huge" announcement today as everyone. I'm just not angry about it.

Actually, while the Transports excellent work due to their low point cost, the Corvette is... kind of a mess. Too many points means you have a teeny-tiny escort, most of the things it can do the Transport does at a third of the price, and the Corvette's guns guzzle energy so fast there's no way to fire often enough to compensate. Add to this 300 points of fighters chewing through 26 THP astonishingly fast and, well, we begin to see why scenario's tend to give the rebels a point advantage.

ARGH! I knew I'd screw something up... Total caps lock.

(Note to self... needs more Flame practice)

When I got x-wing I was promised a space based dog fighting game using ships from the star wars universe and that's what I got.

Epic is not the focus of x-wing it's a fun extra that lets you use more of your collection, would big imperial ships being announced improve my week yes, will it not be ruin my life no.

Ffg know we want a large imperial ship it'll happen but maybe not this week, there is no need to get upset over that or start histrionics.

Right - but I addressed this before. This has nothing to do with there being an Imperial huge ship or not, and the issue wouldn't be fixed by an Imperial huge ship.

If it were the opposite - if the huge ship was overpowered against fighters so the only way to answer it would be a huge ship on the other side - that would be something that could be fixed by an Imperial huge ship. But if the huge ships are underpowered vs. fighters, a new Imperial ship won't change that, and won't motivate it any more.

Requiring 2+ points of epic for every squadron might fix that, but it would also put a hefty price tag on anyone who wanted to play epic, even if they already had enough ships. I just don't see that happening.

That's actually one of the other reasons I was looking forward to the Imperial ship: I was hoping there would be cards with them that could help patch up the Corvette.

X-wing is not actually Warmachine or Warhammer where every faction needs an identical number of every given thing.

OT, but I wouldn't use Warmachine as an example of symmetry. While they have gotten a bit more regular with the "everyone gets a Jr. Warcaster" style releases, the existence of Mercs/Minons, Hordes and the Convergence of Cyriss faction all pretty strongly undercut any symmetry arguments.

On top of that, IMO the tactical feel of the WM/H factions has a much wider range than Reb/Imp, so while everyone might have access to a Jr. Warcaster, that doesn't mean that a Circle list and a Menoth list are going to play anything alike.

Sorry, tangent.

Anyway, WM/H is a good game, well balanced for tournament play, but more expensive and more demanding from the hobby side (assembling, painting, etc.). I recommend checking it out! :)

I'm not the only one expecting anther huge ship.

Like many I bought into it thinking this was going to be a new way to play.

How did I create my own expectation?

So you are saying that in no way you never expected a imperial epic ship?

I find that hard to believe.

It is kind of misleading to introduce a new Gane type but only cater to one side. It's only natural to expect that the other side is going to get one.

I am already disappointed with the Tantive as it is. Apparently you haven't tried flying it against 5 large ships all with hlc and much much more.

You thinking works well.

Then you apparently haven't tried it against four shuttles and a BH focus firing it with hlc, and bombers with missles.

Try it and tell me how balanced that is

The points the Tantive eats up even while trying to go with minimal upgrades leaves you with a very small escort which is outnumbered 2-1.

The Tantive though has firepower, one good round of focus fire leaves it using its energy for shields and leaves little for its weapons which turns it into a floating paperweight

It's better to use those points on ships instead of the Tantive.

Even if it is just a sideline thing, I don't think it's balanced well.

They can fix that by including upgrades in the imperial epic ships.

I love this game and like to buy everything they release on the premise that they do a good job balancing each ship which they do with the exception of the Tantive.

Plus when you see they have released tournament rules with it, ya again it's only natural to think that more will come.

Did they promise, no, but I'm not the only one disappointed, so don't go acting like I'm the only one not happy with this.

There are plenty others.

Maybe not to the degree of how I feel, but it's not just the epic ship but then the wave 6 announcement. That to me was a double whammy.

If they have no intentions of releasing imperial epic ships, then why even bother introducing epic play to begin with?

I'm willing to bet that like most who bought their epic ships assumed more was on the horizon.

As a Warhammer fan and owner of nine 40k and Fantasy armies I can tell you that FFG's not even in GW's realm of complete market denial and stunning lack of game balance and development.

Some of you guys are literally grasping for things to complain about. Seriously, sell your Xwing stuff and go play another game, the forums will be better off without you.

i gotta admit, i read that post in Jeremy's voice...

And then he introduces The Stig to drive that Tesla...

I'd like this so hard if I hadn't exceeded my limit for the third time today, I mean who limits likes? Really.
