Anyone who says FFG arent as cynical as GW.......

By Lilikin, in X-Wing

They released epic ships which made people buy into X Wing (the reason I did) and now they wont even release some imperial Huge for a decent game so they just release a totally new game to make even more money and ditch the unfinished X Wing line before they even started to complete it.

When you release a line you're making a promise to at least leave it at a reasonable point and this isn't it.

It's not like it isn't making money.

I know I'm going to get flamed for this but I feel ripped off frankly.

At least with games like mansions of madness you know it isn't selling but a new game then dump a whole play style because actually it could make more as a new game is GW cynical.

Anyone who says FFG aren't as cynical as GW... has been paying attention for the last two years.

When is rebels released I thinking of selling my entire collection if its soon I will wait. I know big ships aren't a staple of x wing but they are for me.

In case my previous note was too opaque, here's the problem with your post Wikipedia-style:

They... ditch the unfinished X Wing line before they even started to complete it.[citation needed]

I love the new age logic that says because Imperial Epics weren't announced at Gencon today that that automatically means they never will be.

Overreact much guys?

Gencom announcements today invalidate this whole arguement about them ditching the product line. I'm bummed too that they didnt release a 7ft long Star Destroyer, but not enough to feel they abandoned anything... at all. A grip you must get my friend.

Well they both seem to dislike warhammer fantasy...

I know nothing of GW as I Newberry played there games, but I'm super pissed at this announcement and no epic ships.

Frankly I feel like was kicked in the balls.

Not impressed at all

As much respect I've had for ffg I've lost a lot for them today.

Taking to a lot others and I know I'm not alone.

I think this is a bag move on ffg part.

Sure few people who are here are happy, but I'm hearing more negative than positive

Just because FFG didn't make any update today for Imperial Large ships doesn't mean it isn't going to happen. The Big ships are a much higher price point, so I wouldn't expect them to be released on the same kind of schedule as say an x-wing.

What I cannot get my head around is why you would put money into a game designed for Dog-fighting and super fast small ship to ship combat just because you like 2 bigger ships. The game was not even designed for the CR-90 or Transport till later.

I am going to chalk this up to another panties in a bunch thread.

I see a number of flaws in this.

At no point did FFG state or declare that there would be exact ship parity. You could just as easily complain that the Imperials have one more large-based ship, so the Rebel line is incomplete.

Imperial huge ships are not actually required for Epic to be a decent game. If anything, most accounts of the huge ships are that they're underwhelming in epic play, making fighter swarms a better bet anyway. And as such, the line is at a perfectly reasonable point.

Saying they're "ditching the unfinished X-wing line" is pretty silly, given that they just announced an entirely new faction for it and are releasing seven new ships (although not all new models) in the next few months. Unless you mean huge ships, which are both no the entirety of the X-wing line, and also not unfinished.

X-wing is not actually Warmachine or Warhammer where every faction needs an identical number of every given thing.

MURDERFANG! MURDERFANG!!! BUY MURDERFANG NAOW!!!!1!!!1!!!ELEVEN!!

I do not know what is worse. Seeing Murderfang mentioned in a FFG forum or the fact that my friend just taught my one and a half year old the word and all she does is scream MURDERFANG at the top of her lungs.

When I Sa ditch product line I meant the Huge ships

They made a new game for Ships that would never fit the scale of their current game, not to mention that the mechanics that will become more and more inadequate with scale - better than just leaving everything open-ended (puts a dampner of the power-creep-with-scale too; everyone who ever played a game of WH40k Apocalypse with Superheavies on one side and none on the other knows what I'm talking about)

And as previously said, no one said Imperial Huge Ships are never going to happen - maybe none of the designs currently around are good enough to stand side by side with the other ships (most of the Imperial Ships at the Huge Ship scale were made for the PC games which had their engine restrictions to worry about - that's why many of the ships just look bad, boxy or plain silly)

When is rebels released

Rebels will being airing this winter I belive (might be even earlier than that - I don't live in an english-speaking region so I've to wait for shows to come through translation before they are aired or released on legal online-servies - so keeping up with the new releases really doesn't serve me any good)

FFG are nothing like GW. As much as I love 40k and fantasy I know full well that GW doesn't give a crap about me as a customer

FFG gives me a different vibe. They seem to take in what the customers actually say.

At the end of the day though don't completely trust any company.

This is partially true. In a competitive environment, the current rules for the CR90 and GR75 are underwhelming compared to fielding an equivalent number of standard starfighters.

HOWEVER...

These two ships are not designed for or even permissible in standard play. They're designed for Epic play. 300 point games, on a larger battle area. And they will come into their own when they have ships of similar scale and scope to face off against.

Are the CR90 and GR75 competitive against the current X-Wing range? Are they hell. But they're fun to use. A hell of a lot of fun to use. And if there wasd an Imperial equivalent, they'd be even more fun to use.

In my opinion, announcing a third faction is a much bigger announcement than an Imperial huge ship. An Imperial huge ship could be announced whenever and we'd be like "Oh sweet, finally." But a whole new faction? That deserves a big event like GenCon. We'll get out Imperial huge, just you wait and see

I got that, but you're still... not just putting the cart before the horse, but putting the Tesla roadster before the Eohippus. If conclusion-jumping were an Olympic sport, you'd be a favorite to take home the gold. You're getting further ahead of yourself than Spock in JJ Abrams' Star Trek.

Are you in fact Jemery Clarkson?

I'm sorry to anyone from over the pond that won't get that

i gotta admit, i read that post in Jeremy's voice...

Overreact much guys?

Epic was announced what last year for rebels.

Came out in spring?

How many months has it been since epic play was introduced?

Since it was announced at Gen con last year everyone expected it to be the same this year.

So no new announcement on imperial epics, so when?

How long do we have to wait?

Does that really seem fair to those who bought into it for that Reason?

I've got no problem if it's delayed due to balancing reasons, but let us know.

Not saying anything is the worse thing they can do.

Imo I really feel as though they dropped epic play.

Which really upsets me.

Let's give them something but never support it after release, except with a update to the faq.

And for what?

A new faction.

With ships that didn't need fixing or a reprint like the z95.

That **** thing was just released last month!!!

And ywing?

The advance needed fixing more than anything else.

Piss poor job on ffg part

Edit

Oh and if I do epic play I may ad well leave my tantive at home since I have a better chance to beat my opponent by not being severely outgunned.

I said this in another post.

Try fielding a tantive with 6-7 escorts against 4 Omnicron pilots and bh all with hlc.

And still have 150 pts roughly to spare. Good luck

Imperial Epic ships I was hoping get would even the playing field.

So why did I waste 160 buck for the Tantive and transport?

Since I'll probably not use them anymore?

I am actually really wanting my money back as I feel like I was tricked in a way.

You think when you buy some something like this that they would do the same for both sides

This sums up the general problem with these threads quite accurately. There is not even an iota of necessity for everyone to agree with or like the new announcement and releases, or any for that matter, but making comments like 'they kicked you in the balls' or 'they no longer deserve your respect' are personal comments, and show that the real source of the issue is that some people seem to think that FFG (or any company for that matter) are out to cater solely to what they and people of like mind to them want from a product specifically. People seem to have forgotten that a company has to cater to all demographics and ideas, and not everybody will agree. The fact that they are currently releasing a new wave plus a name game neither (a) means that they will not release the huge Imperial ship you really want later on, or (b) that they are doing this as some corporate money grab to you personally, because to put it bluntly, that implies that they care about the demographic idea of you and yours more than anyone elses'. If people are personally offended by perfectly valid business decisions, the full details of which are not fully known, then some people need to take a step back and take a greater look at the world.
