Any SE Michigan games?

By Johdo, in X-Wing Organized Play

Just an FYI, I'll be meeting some people at Eternal Games on Wed. at about 6:30 PM to help them learn the game.

If anybody wants to swing by for a few games feel free.

Hey guys, so I was just talking to some of my X wing buddies from the PA area, and they mentioned how they had a blast running their team event the other day. (Link: http://teamcovenant.com/rinehart/2014/12/16/outryder-cup-results/) And that got me thinking - we should totally do something similar. It seems like a good way to make epic play relevant in a tourney, without making it a full 12 hour day.

For those that don't want to read the article, it basically goes like this:

Each team consists of the same number of players. There are 2 regular rounds and 1 epic round in the tourney, and each player has a different list for all three rounds. Each team is randomly assigned a draft position. When your team picks from the draft, you select a list from your team to play against a list from another team (note, since a team cannot play themselves, there will be some restrictions as the draft continues to make sure everyone plays someone from a different team). After all match ups are determined, the players reveal who controls what list, and they play their opponent like normal. However, instead of getting 5 points for a personal victory, your team is awarded the points. As such, it can be more beneficial to play two good match ups, and give your 3rd team member a match up that's highly unfavored, knowing that he's likely to lose that one (but you'll win the other two). At the end of the round, a new draft process is started to choose what list plays what list. And then the day concludes with the epic game, with the same draft rules. Note that the draft would be constructed such that everyone has an overall fair experience. For example, if there are three teams, each team would draft at all 3 places. If there were 9 teams, a team might draft 1 5 9 and another 2 4 7 or something, such that it is as even as possible.

As for teams, we could break them up by region - East/West/North/South, or by Store, but personally, I would think it might be best if it was done by friends. Anyone else think this is a cool idea?

I do...now i just need to find some free time to participate.

Thanks for bringing up the idea, Khyros. That sounds like fun to me. I am actually so interested that my brain is jumping to "how do we accomplish this". I think next steps could be, pick two possible days, see who could be available, probably make a new "SE MI *insert name of event*" thread to follow the event, then we can find some way to decide teams (random, draft, pick your team, location), and of course, find the best location to host the event.

Handful of us meeting up at eternal for $5 buy in for store credit. Everyone welcome.

O yeah, tonight. Start time 7.

I'd probably join up if it could be scheduled.

Welcome! If you are looking for local games in the area, just follow the link in my sig to the first post. It has a listing of all games and days in the area. It may need a light updating, but it's as accurate as the last edit date. ;)

As you can see, this thread is pretty active so there is no shortage of locating someone to play with the area. I hope to become more active again after the first of the year. Having a child in the middle of X-Wing mania wasn't exactly planned...

It's not SE Michigan, but it is close:

Toledo, OH Store Championship at Checkmate Games on Saturday, 1/31/2015 at noon.

Also a newcomer -- I'm in Shelby.

Also new - Novi

Hoping to get to a game night soon after the holidays.

I'm in Westland as well, have played for about a year and have lots of ships. Maybe we can set something up sometime and get you some experience. My fiancée and I both play. There's a few stores in the area we can play at.

That would be great! I live about 5 minutes from both Pandemonium and Warriors Three.

Anyone going to RIW tonight?

I am also in Westland. A group of us play at Warriors 3 on the 2nd Sunday of each month from 2-6pm. So January 11th we will be playing hope to see you there.

For the Newbie's there is also a Facebook group called X-Wing Michigan that alot of us belong too.

Looks like i have a good chance of making the Jan 11 @ W3. Hope to see ya there.

From the FB group, it sounds like there'll be a good showing at RIW tonight, myself included.

It went well, there were 6 of us. RIW was busy in general, so we got kicked out to the tourney room.

Ditto for the Lansing area and playing with Skins1924. Friday or Sat nights are best for me. Can't make week night games work due to work. :-)
