Any SE Michigan games?

By Johdo, in X-Wing Organized Play

Sounds like fun.

In related news, who all is going to RIW tonight? And do you want to try out epic games or continue with 100pt games? I'm fine either way, I have two lists I'm developing for my final (unless I decide to go to Chicago of course!) regional so I would be happy trying them out... But I also have all this new shiny bling in the form of huge ships that I want to play with...

Any idea if they are running Epic at Regionals going forward this year? I'm imagining it taking an entire weekend if they do.

The only scheduled FFG epic play is at Gencon right now, and they're beginner level games (you don't even need your own stuff or know how to play). Regionals are still on the 100pt dogfight tourney. If they do an epic tourney, it'll be a completely different setup, and my guess would make its debut at Worlds... Perhaps next year there could be a Nats level, but I can't really see regional level epic tourneys going over very well... 3hr games, gives you 5 max in a day (15hrs + 1hr for in between min... 9am - 12am) which means that it'll have to be a 2 day event (cut to top 8/16 on the second day). I think it's asking quite a bit to get a good sized group of people together to play 300pt games for the entire weekend at a regional level, but that's just me.

That said, I hope that escalation becomes a real thing.

Sounds like fun.

I assume you dig the escalation more as it adds variety each round right? I'll have to try to make the next escalation you guys do at RIW to see what it's all about.

I haven't played the new iteration of escalation, but if FFG is going to create new tourney play modes, I hope they support them with tourneys! And the Epic tourney just takes too much time to be viable for a regional... I could see store championships for them, but even then, it'd be kinda weird. So I'm hoping they just keep the Epic Tourneys epic and special, and only hold them for nats/worlds in the future...

Given I don't know how they'd do it - run it concurrently with the dogfight and make people choose / dedicate themselves to one or the other? Run it in series and potentially have the same elite folks dominate at both? Keep in mind there's also team epic that should also be supported. And escalation. And if they don't run tourneys at lower levels, the dogfighting tourney will be considered the premier event, and the others will remain a side show. They almost need to break up them up into seasons... Jan-June is dogfighting season, with escalation and death match, July-Dec is epic, with 1v1 and 2v2...

The reason I mentioned the love for escalation is because it's much easier to replace the dogfighting format with the escalation format. Though I honestly don't think it's as "competitive," and is more for a fun weekend thing... So I don't know....

Anybody coming out to Eternal tomorrow?

Anybody coming out to Eternal tomorrow?

Hmm... I could come out tomorrow or pretty much any night this week except Thursday.

Chances are no games for me this week.

I can go Monday/Wednesday around 8, Tuesday/Thursday I could be there around 6:30.

How about Tuesday at 6:30 then? If we start at 8 then I don't know how much we'll be able to get in based on how late we played last time. Is gminor available? Do you want to do another Epic, maybe with win conditions like flying from end of the board to the other or blowing up a specific ship?

I owe Dan a PTL from the AAIA! No one let me forget!

I remembered that on Tuesday, but no worries. I doubt I'll use more than 3 before the next tourney anyway.

Anybody going to be at Eternal tonight? If so what if anyformat do you guys play? Not sure I have enough for a 300 pt game. Also I'm a fairly new player(don't mind getting crushed, as long as I understand how the crushing works). Anyway trying to find groups near home and tripped across this thread.

I think we're going to try tomorrow at 6:30 PM.

I'm sure you'd be welcome to join us, if you're short on ships I'd be willing to loan some of mine out.

We can just run some 100 point matches tomorrow if Jaekat and Gminor7 show up.

And if we have an odd number I'm sure we could maybe do a 2 on 1 200 point game or something.

I'm in for tonight at 6:30. No worries about odd numbers, I have no issues sitting out watching and shooting the **** with others. Plus I'm sure I could talk John or one of the guys into some dicemasters whilst waiting.

Good games last night. We had 3 new people. :)

So it's looking like I'll be able to make it out to RIW tomorrow for the first time in many weeks.

What kind of squad should I bring (e.g., 100 pts, 200 pts, huge ships)?

This'll be my last time playing in person before my Canadian regional, so I wouldn't mind a few 100pt games... Though at some point I would like to use those big shiny things that I spent lots of $$ on and haven't touched yet.

I might be able to come out and play tomorrow, depending on how my software patch release at work plays out. I haven't yet played my transport yet, but haven't really sat down to read all of the rules. If I can make it, I'd be up for good old fashioned 100 pt games.

Actually... Belay that. I don't think I'm going to be able to make tomorrow, it's the girlfriend's birthday, so I'm going to either have to cook her dinner or take her out. Either way, no X wing.

Because it rained yesterday, and I'm in the process of redoing the patio at my mother's place, chances are I'm not going to make it tonight since I need to catch up.

So is there anyone who can for sure make it out to RIW tonight? It takes me about 30 minutes to get there so I don't want to show up and find the place empty!

I guess I am NOT going to be able to make it out tonight after all.

I tried to make it, but wife and child had other ideas. Next week maybe?

Sorry Guys, looks like I won't be able to make it to RIW this week or next week...so I will see you guys in two weeks...
