Hey Johdo, Can you change Flat Land games on the initial posting to Tuesdays 6:00-close when you get a chance?
Also it looks like I won't be making it to RIW tomorrow, but I'm going to try.
Sure can....and you gotta make it tomorrow. I'll be there! ![]()

I am swinging by home to have dinner first tonight, so I might be a few minutes late, but I'm hoping to get out of work by 4ish so that shouldn't be a problem. But... I'm definitely going to remember to bring alcohol this time!
Also, don't forget i-96 is closed now. So you'll have to find an alternate route.
Yup, although it won't affect me until i'm heading home.
We have added a Tournament for X-Wing on the 12th. Since folk seemed to think we were having one, why not have one.
1pm, April 12th
$5.00 Entry Fee
Prizes based on attendance.
100 Point lists, bring 2 copies.
Look forward to seeing folk.
Will Imperial Aces be legal?
I think this should be stated so players don't show up with a certain list, only to find it isn't allowed. I know they weren't legal for store championships, because FFG hasn't released FAQ for the new pilots and upgrades.
Flat land games hasn't specifically said anything on the matter. Feel free to contact them (none of us are actually hosting/running it) and ask them...
They will be legal for the Escalation tourney on the 13th.
I contacted Flatland and they said Aces are legal.
How did the tourney at RIW go yesterday?
Not too bad, some really good close games played, and several momentum swings. Attendance wasn't as great as I'd hope, but I suppose that's what I get for setting it on the same weekend as Flat Land.
I came in 1st, Eric from Lansing came in 2nd, MrHello came in 3rd, and Alex from Lansing came in 4th.
All that said, I think my opinion that 100pt is the most balanced was just reinforced this weekend. On the 150pt match to determine the winner between MrHello and myself, I had a great opening salvo, knocking out Garven and a Rookie... And he left my Red at 1 hull. And there was no coming back from that... 4v6 quickly became 3v5, which it wasn't long then until it was 0v5. And it's not that I particularly outplayed MrHello... I just had good shots at the beginning, and then average the rest of the time, just twice as many average shots that he had.
I feel like at 100pts, you can't decimate enough of the force to make it completely unrecoverable (yeah, you can kill an extra ship if you do really well on the opening turn, but you can "easily" come back from that with good flying"... Down ~40 points is hard to come back from regardless of how well you fly). So, I guess go go FFG on setting 100pts for the standard tourney format.
Edited by KhyrosI can agree with that assessment, Khyros. I racked my brain coming up with what sort of meta to beat, and concluded that with so many ships on the table, focus fire will result in many ships dead, no matter what. That means having a PS advantage makes a HUGE difference.
Wish I coulda made it out! I was gonna run Kath, a Swarm Tactics based swarm, and a Buzzsaw shuttle for the 150pt game. High PS and some Heavy Hitters was the plan of attack!
I was REALLY excited about the 60pt round as well. You really get to pull some fun dog fighting tactics at that low of points ![]()
Did anyone bring a Falcon or a Firespray to the event?
Sorry I missed it. I was planning to go but a few things got in the way.
Anyone want to play this week at either GOB or Eternal Games? Wednesday maybe?

Sorry I couldn't make it, would have loved to do both tourneys.
Sounds like it was still a fun event though.
Aye... Eric brought Super Han (Chewy, Nien, PTL, MF, EU)... 59pts of goodness! Sadly, due to the low turn out, he ended up with the bye on the 150pt match... But Han did solo Jonus, Scimitar and an Academy.
And then Alex ended up adding Krassis w/ HLC to his bomber list... at least by the 120pt window (when I played him)... at 150 he added Jendon w/ ST321.
I ended up drawing the bye on R1, so I didn't get to try out my Red w/ R2D2 + Dagger w/ HLC + FCS. But the other 60pt lists were a red/blue/prototype, and a Luke+Biggs with some goodies.
The 90pt game I lost to Luke/Wedge/Biggs trio vs my Rookie, Red, Blue, Dagger... But I'll blame that on the silly dice. Sadly, I almost pulled off the modified win... with 5 minutes to play, I basically one shotted Luke and Biggs, and I'd lost my Red, but both B wings were at 1 hull remaining, but we managed to play 3 rounds in those 5 minutes, which had Wedge killing off the two remaining B wings, leaving it a damaged Wedge (shields down) vs. untouched Rookie. Johdo got the modified win, and likely would have gotten the full win, but it was close enough that one bad/good roll would swing the end result.
The 120pt game my dice hated me. At least 4 R1 shots w/ TL produced no damage. And Alex's evade dice were on fire (attack were about average) so the rare time I would roll 2-3 hits, he would just roll 2+ evades and that was that. He was running to Scimitars, Jonus, and Krassis vs. Rookie, Red, Blue, Dagger w/ AdvS, Dagger w/ AdvS... I set up rather uniformly across the entire playmat (he had 2 assault missiles), but due to the asteroid arrangement, I tried to pull all of my ships to my left side, forcing him to go through the worst of the asteroids with his bombers and firespray... but my Red on the right side of the board, slow rolled it (hoping to get the flank after he turned to chase my force)... but he sent his entire force after the red... His bombers were behind Krassis, and I knew if he went straight, only one would clear, so I figured he was going to bank, so I k turned right in front of him, so I'd be able to give chase the next turn... But he decided that the 1 shot was better than no shot... and my poor Red died before getting a single shot off...
But now he was pointing at the side of the board, with a dense asteroid field separating him from me... so he ended up breaking formation, allowing individual ships to maneuver through the field... Over 2 rounds, I took Krassis down to 3 hull remaining, putting on a -1 attack and -1agi crit on him... and then I chased him for 2 turns without doing any damage as I took scattered non-focus fired shots on the rest of his squad. Meanwhile, my ships kept dwendling. I finally broke off pursuit as Krassis had to 4k out of range, and finally got a good roll on Jonus. From there, all of his ships were <4 hull remaining, but I was down to 2-3 ships myself. Jonus had a PS0 crit, which messed up his maneuvers because he forgot about it, and then he wasn't long for the world. I re-engaged Krassis (he still did have the HLC afterall) and managed to get all 3 damage through in one shot, and then slowly sniped off his other ships, dodging arcs/range based on who he TL'd and what range his ordnance was... He did end up shooting my B with an assault missile, doing 2 damage to my ship, and splashing 2 damage to his ships
. It left the B with 1 hull, so I think the goal was that it would be worth it if it killed the B. Note, some of this is out of order...
On to the final match against MrHello, he was running Wedge, Garven, Dutch w/ ICT, Green w/ PTL, Blue and a Rookie. Or at least I think he was. I had built up to Luke w/ ST, Dagger w/ AdvS, Dagger w/ AdvS, Red, Green w/ PTL + HU, and Prototype. His blue/rookie set up across from my prototype, who was joined by my green. Dutch, Garven, and Wedge (who apparently forgot to grab ST) setup in the middle across from my Bs and Xs. His green was setup to attack me from the right by himself. I slow rolled the Bs and pushed the Xs ahead, both As did 5 straight, but the green boosted + focused as I knew there the prototype would boost into range of his rookie but I wouldn't have any tokens. His A came in as suspected on my right flank, but didn't have a shot yet. His rookie and my Green exchanged harmless shots.
The next turn, both my As came in on the left flank, protected by the X+B, but held their own, doing 1-2 damage themselves. The Bs did 2 banks to protect my right flank, and did some damage but didn't kill his green. My Xs (swarmed to PS8) left Garven at 1 hull while only taking 1 dmg on the red. I believe Wedge was slightly out of range of the engagement, and Dutch only had R3 shots.
The next turn started a string of my Green running into my prototype due to failures on my part. Most of the time it was because when I selected my maneuver for the prototype, I intended to boost, but by the time I moved him, 5 minutes later, I had forgotten my intention to boost. One of my daggers did a 1 turn to re-engage the X wing force, while the other did a 2K to keep pressure on the A wing. Everyone else on both sides just kinda continue to roll into each other, though I believe Wedge broke off and decided to go after the prototype, which he knocked out the shields on one attack. Garven quickly died, but Dutch managed to Ion one of my Daggers who was stressed from a 1 turn... this continued for multiple turns, taking him out of the fight until the very last turn. I believe my A wings finally took out the rookie, but the 4k kept everyone from having a shot on my Red, so I was still at full strength.
This round started the furball... Pretty much all of the X wings bumped into something... and my A wings had now also joined the fight. They managed to block Wedge's 4k, which meant that he didn't have a shot on anything, and wouldn't for several turns. There was no focus fire this turn, but I did manage to lose the Red (after swarming him though), and I believe his Blue died to my Green right before he got off a sweet R1 shot on my prototype. Dutch continued to ion the first dagger out of the fight.
At this point, it was Dutch, Wedge, and his Green, vs my full squad less my Red (herm... apparently my Red died first in all of my matches)... Up to this point, we'd both played decently, probably making 2 maneuver mistakes each, which ain't too bad if you ask me. But the dice just completely favored me, and from here, he was down 2 ships and really didn't stand much of a chance for a comeback. My dice did cool off and returned to more average results (though my little Green A wing continued to be awesome, as he always is... and you found out on Saturday). Wedge cleared his stress, but was still facing away from the fight, so I let him go, and instead focused on Dutch and the A wing. Dutch managed to ionize my second dagger, who had just pulled a 2k. Dutch then proceeded to escort him out of the fight for the rest of the game basically. I killed the A wing before it could get off a shot.
Next turn Wedge does his 4k, and takes a shot at my green A wing w/ a TL, managing to only strip 1 shield. Dutch continues to escort my Dagger #2 out of the fight, and I don't have many shots on anyone. The final turn of the game had my first dagger coming back into the fray to put the kill shot on Wedge, while Luke and the Prototype chased down Dutch to kill him off. Wedge was chasing this one, and managed to bring him down to 1 hull before he died.
End result was that I only had 1 shield remaining, on my Green Squadron, one B wing had 1 hull, while the other had all 3 remaining, Luke and the prototype had 2 hull. While it sounds like he could have focus fired a bit more, I did a good job of forcing his hand on who he could shoot at, spreading the love around. The only target selection I questioned was choosing not to go after the Red at 1 hull w/ the ICT, but I think MrHello ended up making the right call because it took my Dagger out of the fight completely. The other target selection I questioned was Wedge's R2 shot on my prototype early in the game. Wedge had his choice of targets, but chose a TL on the prototype. I suppose he was going for the 1 shot? But seeing as he didn't follow the attack up with any others, ever, I don't agree with that choice. And FYI, the prototype was in the fray from then on as my main blocker, so he had opportunities to attack it, but the rest of the time he chose a larger threat target, which I agree with, so it was only the one shot from Wedge that made me raise an eyebrow.
That sounds about right. If i can remember how my various matches went, i'll put something up in the battle report area.
Stupid tourney rules. Go 2-2 and finish in last. ![]()
Conclusion: More sleep and more beer!

Yeah, I don't really get how you ended up in last.
You beat me and MrHello, (1st and 3rd) but lost to 2nd and 4th... Go figure =P To be fair, if you had a full win against me, you would have come in 3rd due to you having a higher SoS than the other two at 10pts.
Yup. Oh well. My first escalation tourney, and my first "official" time playing Rebels. I don't think i did too bad honestly for never playing as Rebels...well except when i turned my brain off in the 60pt round.
It kind of felt more like a Sunday BBQ than a tourney. We just need a grill for some Burgers next time, and we'll be set.

I did just clean up my grill and set it out on the patio on Saturday. Heh, maybe next time we'll play at a park or something and play like this:

OMG i wanna play that way!
I have a FineMolds 1:72 Y wing 95% complete, and an X wing just waiting for me to stop playing with XWM and start on it. I think I also have 2 AMT/ERTL TIE Fighters I did when I was like 10. I'd be down for finishing up a few more models to give this a go... Not the Falcon (seeing as the 1:72 is like 500 bucks)... so sadly the rebel choices would be X or Y wing...
But the imps can have /ln, /x1, /in, and the Slave 1 (only $55 bucks) all from fine molds... Though if you're just wanting 1:72 ships, you can go with AMT/ertl and find them on ebay for pretty much any ship (i could pick up an A and B wing that way) for cheaps.
FYI - the standard 3x3 playfield at 1:270 would be 11' 4'' x 11' 4''... And the range ruler would be 44.29'' long!
Edit for the actual range ruler range. 1 base = 40mm not 1 inch (which I used to calculate it to begin with)... 5 straight = range 2, so the range ruler is 7.5 straight, which is 40mm * 7.5 = 300mm... which is 11.81'' at 1:270... Or in MrHello's case, it's probably an even 12'' ![]()
Sorry I missed it. I was planning to go but a few things got in the way.
Anyone want to play this week at either GOB or Eternal Games? Wednesday maybe?
I'm going to try and make Thursday at RIW this week, that's my only free day right now.
So... good thing we did the (old) escalation tourney last week before the new escalation rules hit! Not like I have anything against them, but they're completely different. I think it's funny that you're not allowed more than 8 of any 1 ship... Can someone say "this rule was specifically to prevent the 12 tie swarm" ... yeaaahhhhh...
Interestingly, as it currently sits, the TIE is the only ship that fits more than 8 at 150... Though the A wing will be able to fit 10 once the Chaardan Refit hits. I don't know what would be more scary to see... 12 TIEs (inc HR) or 10 A wings. HR would die real quick, so I'm not too concerned about her (especially against any non-mirror match where most ships would have shot before the PS1 Academies)... But that's still a lot of guns, even if they're easily killed.
The A wing would be a bit harder to kill, quite a bit actually, and with the boost can often block you, denying you shots and actions...
Oh well, never have to worry about THAT anymore.
12 Z-95s when they are released would be rather interesting...
I'll need to re-read the Tournament rules again. At the time i was focused on the FAQ.
I'll be there tonight, but I have to leave early. I'm aiming to be at the momso's by 9:00, so looks like 1 or 2 games and I'm out.

Same schedule for me, one longer game or two quick ones but I'll be there around 6.
