Any SE Michigan games?

By Johdo, in X-Wing Organized Play

lol, show up for once...that's funny.

Hmmm...because we have never played against each other yet?

I'm usually willing to make the drive for kit swag and glory :P but not on short notice! With the local Store Championships complete, some more events need to be scheduled! I'm getting antsy.

Fun game last night. That was the first time I've played that large of a game. And since I know the question is going to pop up, it was 3v2 300pts on each side. IIRC, it was something along the lines of

297 imps vs. 299 rebels, Imps have init.
We played on a 3x6 with 3 sets of asteroids, which crowded the left half of the field and left the right rather open (FYI, directions are from the rebel perspective). The A wings set up on the right side. The B wings setup in the middle, while the X wings and HWKs setup on the left side. Meanwhile, all 10 TIEs setup pretty much across from the B wings, and the Bombers/Jendon setup on the left side angled towards the center.
The first turn went as expected, except the B wings turned scare and BR left and then turn left to stay away from the TIEs. Second turn started a few R3 shots, I think rebels lost 1 shield while doing 4 damage back. Turn 3 left the Red dead to rights in front of all 3 bombers and the shuttle, but survived two missiles with only 1-2 damage, and then I believe the shuttle shot elsewhere. FCS was forgotten pretty much every turn =/, as were Jonus' rerolls. There was enough other stuff going on that it was hard to keep track. One bomber was brought down to 1 hull, but then all of the TIEs started their streak of amazing rolls. Over the next few turns, the Blues and A wings engage the TIEs, which the TIEs manage to only take 1-2 damage (in part due to 3 triple evade rolls...........), while rolling double hits every time. Biggs got taken out rather easily with ordnance, and Wedge was severely crippled, but not before 2 of the bombers died. A proton bomb ended up hitting the Red and Ibby, giving the red blinded pilot when he had a nice R1 TL+F shot on a TIE. I would like to point out that thus far, the two crits that the imps drew were both ignore pilot ability on unnamed grunts...
The B wings continue to duke it out with the TIEs... the Blacks were both taken out, and Jan, Tycho and Ibby all tried to take out NB, but failed... setting up a R1 F+TL shot on my 1 hull B wing. And yet, Night beast whiffs, getting only 1 hit! But the silly B wing rolls a blank and blows up. The prototype pilot has no problem finishing NB off though, go figure. After a bit more of shooting, its basically down to the 4 academies, Jonus, DC, and Jendon (who's in the middle of running through all of the asteroids in an attempt to turn around) vs. a Blue, Prototype, Tycho, Ibby, and Kyle. Kyle and Ibby take out Jonus, and the Bs and As stay on TIE clean up duty, but there were lots of collisions, so focused fire ended up not existing on either side.
The last few rounds end with Jendon lining up a beautiful R1 F+TL shot on Kyle, but just barely landing on the asteroid, so he can't shoot. The TIEs have been weeded down to just DC, and the rebels are left with the two As and two Bs. Neither A has a shot, so Ibby shoots (unsuccessfully) at DC, while the Blue continues the assault on the shuttle, blowing it off the board. And about this time we realize that Tycho still has a missile in the tube, so he grabs a K turn (wtf, Tycho had no stress on him??? He spent too many turns running into people and being action denied that it all cleared off) and picks up a TL on DC and blows him out of the sky, ending the game. Rebels win, killing 297 points to 186.
It was much easier to keep everything straight once we wrote down (by PS category) everyone that had to move/shoot and crossed them out as they died. Someone has some pictures somewhere.

Good session report, Khyros. It was a fun game, with some high moments and some low moments. Biggest game I've ever played in. :)

The last few rounds end with Jendon lining up a beautiful R1 F+TL shot on Kyle, but just barely landing on the asteroid, so he can't shoot.

One thing I would like to clarify here is that it was an Academy TIE pilot that flew inexplicably away from the heat of the battle and blocked Jendon, which is what caused the asteroid collision. No worries, Mr. Hello; it was a funny moment. :D

No big thing. We played a pretty solid game otherwise, things could have gone either way there.

Things my pilots would have said if they could talk:

Biggs: "3 target locks, is that all you Imps got? Pfftt, two missles, is that all you Imps got? Ohh... I guess you've also got torpedos and lasers and --- (Biggs dies)."

Wedge: "I'm scared of the Bomber's torpedos, missiles, and bombs so I'm going to fly around the most convoluted path imaginable... what's that you say... the bombers are out of bombs and I'm running away like a little girl for nothing... Umm... well I'm really just trying to flank Beast anyways."

Kyle: "Pffttt... Wedge, you can run, but I'm too slow and unmanuverable, so I'm just gonna stay here and shoot at the TIES and do your job for you. (mutters) Pansy..."

BTW, MVP of the night should totally go to Red Squadron pilot, how did he survive looking 4 Bombers in the face and strafing runs from the TIE swarm?

I had fun, thanks for having me guys.

A friend of mine and I are going to meet up at Guild of Blades next wednesday 4/2 around 7pm if anyone wants to join us for a game.

I'll try and make it. I'll have. Better idea next week if I'm a definite yes.

I'll try to make it that night. Does anybody know if they have any other events going on at GOB?

I don't know, I'll call and ask. I know fridays is MTG and Saturdays is Warhammer. The rest of the week is open gaming.

Gosh darly! It's almost Thursday again! I'm in for tomorrow, Johdo I'm assuming you're out? What about everyone else? Though for the record, tomorrow I want to run 100 point games, that 300pt game was a bit much to do back to back weeks.

Also, I'm thinking that I should organize a weekend tourney here in April. I'm thinking about running it as an escalation tourney (fyi, as usual, if anyone needs to borrow something, just let me know)! But before I talk about setting up a date with RIW, what weekends work well for ya'll?

I should be there tomorrow.

Tomorrow for me is still a possibility, but it would be a last minute decision. So while i don't want to officially commit, there is a chance i may get there. Here's hoping baby is in a good mood tomorrow!

As for the tourney, if i know in advance when and where, i have a good chance of making that.

Here's to hoping on getting some flying in tomorrow. My Imperial Aces are getting antsy...

Sweet! Is there anything in particular you want to fly against? Seeing as you haven't played in a month, and won't play for another month (=P) I figured I'd offer to run any list you want to fly against.

As a wise man once said, " I don't know, fly casual. "

Good luck guys, I won't be there tonight. I hope you have a great time.

Game on bytches! See you in a few

MrHello... Can you please post details regarding Flat Land Games tourney? I looked at their calendar, and nothing is showing up for April, and nothing is posted to their FB.

Hi guys,

We just opened a store in Warren, MI and we're looking to start X-Wing tournaments. We have about 2400 sq.ft of play area so there's more than enough room to play comfortably. We're mainly a Magic: The Gathering store but are trying to hold tournaments for X-Wing, Netrunner, A Game of Thrones and Heroclix. Check us out at https://www.facebook.com/eternalgamesmi

Our address and contact information is:

We look forward to seeing you!

On FB they're saying game day, though I thought I heard tourney when I called. I'm meeting with them on Monday about running a demo, and I'll post the details then. What I'm sure of for "game day" is it's $5 entry with a kit as the prize.

Is Wednesday happening at GOB this week?

Do you have an "official" day for X-wing play? If you do, i can update the first post in this thread that has all of the other locations listed.

Is Wednesday happening at GOB this week?

Can anyone provide the particulars for GOB? i would like to add it to the first page.

Thanks.
