I am just starting out with X-wing and looking for a place to learn to play in the Grand Rapids area. Is there any groups or stores with a casual play time or beginners type night at all?

You happen to be in luck! Big Kidz Games in Grand Rapids supports X wing. I believe they play every other Saturday, this week being one of them. They also post in the X Wing Michigan facebook group whenever they have a tourney coming up. From what I understand, all of the owners play and like X wing.

We have some really odd stuff planned for tonight. We're running the escalation league first, then are going to be doing a BIG game. 3 foot by 12 foot probably over 600 a side big, until the store closes.

Oooh... I'm totally down for trying out the escalation. How are you planning on running it? I've never really understood the details of it.

Round 1 is 60 points. That's easy to understand

Round 2 is 90 points, 30 of which must be the same as the 60 point list.

So, if my round 1 list is... lets say Wedge w/ PTL+R2 and Dagger w/ AdvS. Now I'm going up to 90 points, can I drop Wedge down to a Rookie and count that as 21 of the 30 points required? And then lets say I upgrade the Dagger to Ibby and put PTL AdvS, Ion, and EU on her. Does she count at 24 (dagger) + 3 (AdvS) + 3 (PTL) points of the "same" or what?

So, if my round 2 list was... Rookie, Ibby w/ PTL AdvS Ion EU, and Dutch w/ ICT... how many points would be considered the same?

The guy running the escalation is using his own set up. Started with 22 points then you got more points to build your fleet with depending on how you did with you objectives you picked for your game. I do know once someone is in your fleet you cannot drop them, or take things away from them. You can however add upgrades to slots not used.

Yeah, I bailed out. I thought you meant FFG escalation - 60 points round 1, 90 points round 2, 120 round 3 and 150 round 4. But I got there and they're talking about doing missions and not even killing stuff. Not my preferred way to spend a night. Sounds cool though.

No worries. We tend to run a lot of non tournament themed stuff. As for the killing in that escalation it's all on how you want to run it. I personally smoked the heck out of a B-wing last week with my Interceptor. I didn't get to play this week as I was late with my wifes 40th birthday dinner.

We totally hit the jackpot on regionals! Ohio is only 3.5hrs away, Chicago is only 4, and Pittsburgh is 4.5. Not to mention, the St Catharines Ontario one is only 4.5hrs away too. Sooo many options.

I'm definitely going to the Pittsburgh and Ohio one. I might be able to convince my dad to let one or two people stay at his place for the Pittsburgh one. And I'd definitely be up for a carpool, and potentially sharing a hotel room depending on the day schedule for the Ohio one. I'm still up in the air about Chicago... on the one hand, I hear it's going to be an excellent group of players, but I feel like two is probably enough, and the Chicago one is the hardest for me to go to, and it's the latest. So I don't know what I'm feeling about that, it might come down to how I do at the first two.

This may sound stupid, but anyone can participate in regionals right? If so, what was the perk you got for winning a store championship?

If i can make any of them, it'll be the Chicago one. Easy for me to get to, and i can stay with my friend that lives right around the block from The Dojo (where it's being held).

All the events are open (even Worlds). The perk from store championships is a first round bye in a regional. It's a first round win, but its not a qualifier or anything.

Yup. What toggle said. Though I wouldn't mind if worlds was closed and you had to be top 4 regionals or top 8 nats or something. At some point. But iirc, there were only 84 people last year at worlds, so it's not like it's too big, and most people there should be there I would expect since it is a large $$ to go there.

So, I may or may not be showing up tonight. And I was originally planning on playing LCG, but I forgot all of my stuff this morning. If my day continues the way it looks like it's going to, I'm either going to skip out, or maybe I'll swing by and play some X wing borrowing some of ya'lls stuff

FYI, it was pointed out the B&N in Royal Oak is closing and all of their X wing stuff was 40% off for anyone interested. That puts small ships at $9 and large at $18, cheaper than MiniMarket, and no shipping. Plus, if you have their membership, you should get another 10% on top of that, to make them $8.10 and $16.20. Not bad =P

Is that it? Wow, my source told me that on Wednesday they have several big ships and about half a dozen expansions.

I think it's just been picked over. They had one YT-1300 left, which I grabbed along with a core set.

They had plenty of empty shelf space, probably just a couple days late.
