Any SE Michigan games?

By Johdo, in X-Wing Organized Play

Hey everyone!

I am in Ann Arbor, about 30 mins from RIW. I had been playing X-Wing at my place with a friend/co-worker of mine, but he's lost interest in the game and I'm looking to find a group to start playing with. My fleet is modest (1 core set + 1 of each Wave 1 + 1 of each Wave 2, no Wave 3 ships yet), but I'd like to start joining you guys on Thursdays when I have the time.

On the RIW website the X-Wing event is listed for 6pm-11pm. What time do you guys usually get there and how long do you usually play?

We usually arrive around 6, and play until whenever. There isn't usually a hard stop time. Place closes at 11, and we didn't leave until just after 11:30.

Hope you can make it!

Just so you know, there is a Tournament this Sunday (22nd) @ RIW. I would arrive by 12:30 to check in and get squad organized.

I learned something first hand last night! A Y wing w/ Ion vs. Soontir w/ PTL is not a very fair match. Soontir can run circles around a Y wing, grabbing a few R3 shots in and then ducking out of range. And even when he's in range, 3 attack dice (with TL+F) vs. 3-5 defense (stealth, obstruction) with Evade and Focus is next to impossible to get a hit through. Though once that first hit gets through and Soontir is stressed and ionized, it becomes much easier!

I have a feeling that if we wanted, and let the game go on for hours, I would eventually kill myself due to navigating through the asteroids while Soontir flew around the outside.

Agreed. Soontir vs. Y-wing isn't exactly an ideal matchup, but you ultimately had me so there was no point in dragging out the match.

Having not played for a while was definitely displayed in my maneuvering. I hope my head is on straight come Sunday.

All in all good matches. I am DEFINITELY going to need to play with the shuttle more if i want to be effective with it. Bomber isn't too bad, provided you keep him in the back. But that was my own fault again to due poor flying.

Hi! I'm in Ypsilanti. There is another Ypsi player, and another in Ann Arbor. I'm also just starting to build interest with the EMU campus gaming group. You should join the MI Facebook group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/628108733880477/ We have started using it for the local A2/Ypsi people, and other groups throughout the state are using it as well.

You guys are machines! Do you even stop to eat?!

Thanks for letting me know! I hope to be there on Sunday but I have a lot of work to do this weekend, so I'm doubtful that I will be able to go; it will depend on how much I get done tomorrow. Anyway, I haven't played in a few months so I am probably a bit rusty on the rules and even rustier on the maneuvers...

Hey all,

I've been buying a few of the ships down here in Monroe (normally hit up Our House Games) with occasional trips to Shenanigans in Taylor and Pandemonium over Garden City. Any word on games/tournaments over there?

Has Shenanigans started selling X-Wing? Last time i was in there, it was mostly warhammer, malifaux, and hordes.

Pandemonium sells X-Wing, but when i asked about weekly events, the guy in there was "I don't know. Everyone just plays at their kitchen tables i guess". I was like, uhh ok really? Well are you going to sponsor or schedule something to attract players?

I tried to get something going at Pandemonium, but the people there weren't exactly "helpful" in organizing something. It sounds like they have the Season kits, but are just sitting in their stockroom i would imagine. I would not be opposed to playing at Pandemonium. If you know that more people would be in and show up then i'd be interested.

Nothing at Shenanigans that isn't special ordered. Can't blame them, to be honest.

Yeah, Pandemonium is more into Magic, Warhammer, and the other minis. Plus taking a half hour/hour to get there from where I live isn't very attractive. And that's not counting finding table space when the card players come in.

In addition, I have classes on Thursday til nine and work at 730 on Friday so that means that RIW is a no go on Thursdays.

Wednesdays at Pandemonium usually aren't bad. Weekends...forget about it. On the weekend it seems that place fills up with smelly teenagers looking to show off all the magic cards their mommy bought them.

If i had to pick (distance wise from my house), it would be Shenanigans, then Pandemonium, then RIW. RIW is nice on Thursdays because i just go there right after work ( i work 6 miles away from the place ). Thursdays at RIW is also dubbed "StarWars night", so they play the SW RPG, and the SW LCG as well as X-Wing (although just this past Thursday our table kept getting bumped up because there was some huge 2 x 2 40k game going on...that end up getting pretty heated).

Next time i run into Pandemonium, i'll post something up on their peg board by the door and see if there is any further interest. Any night i'm playing X-Wing is a good one...

I was super-productive today and I think I will be able to make it out to the tournament after all. I will be the guy wearing the ridiculous Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles T-shirt, so if any of you sees me tomorrow please introduce yourself!

Sounds good. I'll be the fat guy in a Tigers hat. ;)

I'll be wearing my "Han Shot FIrst" T-shirt.

Is that a prelude of things to come?

We shall see! ;)

hello fellow Michigan x-wingers.....Flat Land Games in Wixom has set up a x-wing night for every other Friday night.. the next meeting will be Oct. 4th... if you are interested look them up on facebook... flat land games.... hope to see some of you there..

Wow, I had no idea there was a games store in Wixom. I live in Novi but I pass through "down town" Wixom every day on the way to work. It looks like it is just north of I96? I might check it out this week and if I can I'll stop by on the 4th for some X-Wing.

On another note I had fun at the torment today. Would have had more fun if my ships would stop suiciding themselves into asteroids. Really going to have to rethink my squad for Thursday but now that I have the Lamda I'm going to want to try that out.

So what were the final rankings for the tournament? How did it turn out? I enjoyed meeting other X-wing players that I never knew before, but I wish I could have gotten to play them instead of Khyros and Johdo, since I have played them several time before. Not that I don't enjoy playing them--they always give a good match. ;)

I ended up winning, and a4rino came in 2nd. From there, i'm not sure how it stacks up.

Congrats, Johdo! Did that clumsy TIE bomber pilot start earning his keep in your squad? :)

Thanks!

In the last match he did. One-shotted one of his ships, and stripped the shields off of the YT on another. Man that bomber is pure love/hate. I did a poor attempt at a tourny recap over in the Battle Reports section, so if there are sections in there that need to be updated, please let me know. By the time i got home, i started forgetting stuff...

Good games to everyone on Sunday, and especially to Johdo for winning! I'm really glad I got to come out and play with you guys and hopefully I will be joining you all for more games soon.

Also thanks to Khyros for putting on the event and for letting me borrow your A-Wing!

No problem. I'm glad all ya'll came out and had a good time. I'll have to put something else together at some point, maybe in November. They have another S2 kit and are obviously ordering S3 kits (though I have no clue when those are coming out).

Next time I'll be better prepared to fly against those **** B wings!

Agree...those B-Wings should have annihilated me. Thank me lucky stars...

Is everyone going to be taking the week off due to the tournament, or will there be a gathering this Thursday?
