Arkham Horror Statistics Reports

By Tibs, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

How would you guys indicate using Act cards (from Miskatonic Horror)? I don't have KiY yet, but I've incorporated them into the game. They happen to make the game significantly harder sometimes, so they kind of act like a herald in their own right. Do you just check KiY in the expansions field (even when you only use the mentioned cards specifically)?

That's a very nuanced question…I use KiY, along with every other expansion…sometimes I get caught, often times I don't I've had one game end with the curtain closing on the Investigators. It was a very tough loss.

One of my friends was certainly outraged by it. We drew about 3 mystic environments over the course of a few rounds, so it was understandable. :-) It also made me think about it as a quasi-herald. Since then, it's not permanent part of the game for us, rather an optional element for when we want to make the game harder. But then again, relationships and the special gates could be considered the same gameplay-altering mechanisms as well. Which might not be Tib's intention, it would only make the database more complicated.

So, since the KiY expansion's only permanent, gameplay-altering part is the Act deck, guess I'll just go with checking it every time it's in the game. After all, even when you don't use the expansion boards, the investigator and AH location cards are still in play. Same logic could be applied here.

It's tough to say. The calculation for frequency of losing by Act Cards assumes you're using KiY. But it's not a big deal, to be honest.

On my last game--entry number 9975 in the submissions tab, I believe--We had 5 players & one devoured character. After I submitted it, I noticed that I neglected to check Lola Hayes, my daughter's character. Thus, only 5 characters are selected (rather than 6, as there should be.) If you can fix it, great. If not, it's probably not a huge deal.

Thanks for your work in keeping this up! I very much enjoy the statistics and entering my game results (for posterity!).

Aaand it's 10000! Thank you Tibs for this amazing database. Big H offered a reasonable challenge. :-)

Ah! 10000. I've had something special planned for that.

Unfortunately, the internet has completely crapped out from Indiana to West Virginia, so I won't be able to update the site until I return here to the lab tomorrow.

Thanks everyone!

All right. How's it going everyone?

So we've reached 10,000 games! Awesome! Thank you everyone for your help on this project.

But we're not done yet. Keeping the speed of the report and the limitations of Google Docs in mind, I've been thinking about what to do when we hit 10k games. I think I've got the solution.

I spent all day on the site, but I've updated its code to the point where I can put in baseline values for each cell and have it calculate new stats on top. This means that I can remove the 10,000 games from the database and put them into backup!

Have a look for yourself:

Stats report

The old games are not completely lost: they've been archived in this spreadsheet .

So what's new? If I did my job correctly, you shouldn't notice much of a difference in the stats report. Two things to note: I've been miscalculating the frequency of succumbing to the Innsmouth Look: it's 7% , not 35%. Another thing to look out for is that, at a loss for more practical options, I'm trying a rather desparate technique to compile the "Contributors" section. I'm not sure if this will work correctly until some more games have been logged. Of course, I'm hoping it works--otherwise I might have to do away with that section altogether.

Looking at the latest submissions, a couple of crazy things happened - someone got the blessing of Bast and bloody hell Tibs, Bokrug departed and changed in the same game! Oh, and I managed to call down Ghatanothoa on my head. You wouldnt guess which investigator shined that game - Amanda! At least half of the doom tokens were removed (not counting Kate's CtAO cast) by her.

The Changed/Departed game was mine! The students I'm interning with have gotten really into Arkham Horror, and that game was Chapter 9 of my Introductory Scenarios.

In a previous game with Kingsport, I told them all that you could get Changed, but refused to say what it did…

In this last game they were so curious that someone went up there to do it (could've used those trophies to placate the Beings of Ib but they were too **** curious).

They only removed one Being, making the battle essentially hopeless. Bokrug toyed with them, and, on the very last possible turn… he departed! Obviously, nobody else knew it was possible.

Tibs,

When you get a chance, would you please convey access to the gmail docs so I can view the archived spreadsheet.

Cheers, Joe

Oh. Once again I have forgotten to modify the link so that anyone can view. Sorry, sorry.

Thanks, Tibs!

By the way, I can see the Submissions but not the Contributors sheet…the reason I ask is because over the past few years I believe that I've used two different Nicknames 'the Professor' and 'The Professor" ~ I don't know if the Excel spreadsheet has combined all similar nicknames or I may have a group of games under "the Professor" nickname and then the 68 or so games under "The Professor" name.

Let me know if these can be combined or if you can tell me how many games were played under both nicknames.

Cheers, Joe

Tibs,

Happy Birthday!

Cheers, Joe

Thanks for the sentiment!

I've gone ahead and replaced all your entries with "The Professor." There were a total of 69 entries.

Thank you, sir!

Tibs,

I just finished a game and mistakently seleced the wrong AO ~ we defeated Glaaki , not Yibb-Tstll - please change on the spreadsheet.

Thanks, Joe

Lovely to see the thread is not pinned any longer. Even if the site is quicker to navigate, I think we didn't change for the better. Fingers crossed, I really hope to be wrong

The only thing I like thus far...the ability to Edit your post.

Holy Floating Nightgaunts, stop them from dragging this thread through the Gate!

Hey, dj, long time no see in the forum! Hope you're well!

Indeed, I'd love to have the threads that once were pinned, pinned again

Hi! Yes I have been away in absolute darkness - my mother died from pancreatic cancer and I had to spend a year easing her last months. It took an awful toll on me as you can imagine but I am beginning to come back to life myself. When I sit down in front of my pet Arkham at this point though, it looks at me differently. I have seen a horror it can never match. So I am trying to cheer it up a bit by pretending to be scared. Don't tell!

Sorry for your loss, Dj. Indeed, sometimes life is a storm of difficult situations and pain. I'm glad you're back, though, we miss'd ya :)

dj,

I'm terribly sorry to hear of your loss. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Joe

Thanks to both of you :) A great comfort to me to hear and know such things. Also a comfort that despite a horrendous journey there, the end was in peaceful sleep.
I'm really glad to be back too - I ducked out just as the fabled FAQ landed. I was terribly disappointed with it but I expected to be. I had hoped we would get printed answers to a lot of those questions we harvested down the years, but many were omitted. What did you guys reckon on it here? And did I miss anything major being announced? It doesn't seem so.
