Andor!

By whafrog, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I had no idea this was in the works. 12 episodes about Cassian Andor. While I thought Rogue One was a flawed movie, I did like the premise, and the potential of the characters in it. I also enjoyed the darker and grittier tone...I kind of like my Stars Wars with a hint of Bladerunner, Firefly, and film noir mixed in. So I'm looking forward to this:

I'm thinking more along the lines of James Bond. Andor wasn't a detective or petty criminal. He was an intelligence agent.

That's not a genre Star Wars tries it hand at very often, and I'm all there for it.

While I thought Rogue One was one of the better Star Wars movies to come out in the last couple decades, I heard about Disney's push to roll out a lot more Star Wars shows, but I worry about explaining what doesn't need to be explained. Cassian was a great character who served his purpose. More detail needs to be something real special. But hey if it's half as good as the Mandalorian I'm all in.

It was easily the second best of the post-Lucas films, and I love its dedication to bad 70s hairdos and mustaches.

Rogue One is my favorite of all the movies, it barely edged out ESB for me. Which is huge.

I am so excited for this.

I’ve been looking forward to this since they first announced it sometime a year or so ago. I didn’t see Alan Tudyk in the footage though...he is a must for this series for me.

I have the same sentiment about creating something to explain the past of a character whose fate is already known. (e.g. the cringe-fest that, IMO, was Solo). We already know where it is going and we know what the end result of character development is. We don't know how the Mandalorian is going to turn out or what decisions he'll make. Half as good as The Mandalorian? YEAH!!! All in on that one!!!

I hope it is just about the stand-alone exploits of Cassian Andor in his own series and not an endeavor to "weave" him into every possible plot that went on in that timeframe. I'm not a big fan of the "weave" format of Cassian in the shadows of everything the comics or novels have to offer. (Disclosure: I do not have knowledge of what Cassian has been in either novels or comics.) The worst would be explaining how Cassian got his last name (a la Solo). Do you want the credits AND a blaster, or credits OR a blaster? "And"-"Or"??? Andor!!! There you go, Cassian! We have a last name for you!! {{cringe}} Such is the material we've gotten out of some Disney endeavors.

Since we know Cassian will do what needs to be done, I think it might be likely to start him off as someone completely different than the character we already know. However, that's a tough transition to pull off.

I'm looking forward to this, Rogue One already had way more gray-tones and I loved that, so hoping it will be more of that, showing that some people in the rebellion need to get their hands dirty so that mon mothma and co can maintain their moral highground 😃

Rogue One was a breath of fresh air for me, showing as it did a different side of the Star Wars universe. (Not that I don't like the main line of films to one extent or another.) So I'm looking forward to this.

I wonder if they will begin with how Cassian joins the Rebellion/Alliance, or if that will be dealt with in flashbacks. Will we see more of the CIS side of things before everything went "Empire"? I'm pretty sure that we'll see how he gains K-2SO as a companion.

Things like this (and the Loki series!) might get me to suscribe to Disney+, instead of just viewing The Mandalorian at some one else's house.

RO is an ok film, but this series looks really cool. More spy-stuff and moral ambiguity is always good - having looked more into Cypers and Masks lately due to some decision my players made, I'm quite excited about more of this kind of stuff.

With all these new series and things, I'm hopeful for Edge to push out more cool stuff. Perhaps taking a cue from WEG with galaxy guides, more sectors, and topics (like a follow-up to Nexus of Power, Strongholds, Suns of Fortune, Lords of Nal Hutta, etc), but also more new careers/specialisations, perhaps a new kind of exotic specialisation taking inspiration from the Jedi career with requirements, (even) more focused abilites, and perhaps somewhat increased XP cost (i.e. out of career cost for everyone).

Rogue one was one third convoluted mess, one third horrible and one third the best thing Star Wars has brought to the big screen. They were lucky to end it at that amazing part!

But this show seems to take what I liked about the movie and build on it so I am onboard!

Agreed. K2SO was my favorite part.

But I can’t imagine Alan Tudyk in a sci-fi TV series...

😎

For the briefest of moments, I had hope that we would be seeing a Star Trek series focused on the homeworld of the blue-skinned dudes with antennae. Instead we get...a prequel story to another dead character.

I’d watch a series with Shran as the main character. He was my favorite on Enterprise , I think the most complex character in the whole series.

The live-action offerings includes Rangers of the New Republic , a new series from Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni set during the timeline of The Mandalorian . The duo will also create a series focusing on Jedi Ahsoka Tano .

Next up is a new Lando Calrissian event series, Lando , from Dear White People creator Justin Simien. Russian Doll creator Leslye Headland’s mysterious Star Wars series gets a name: The Acolyte , which will be a mystery-thriller set in the last days of a new era: The High Republic .

That's what happens when you send a Vorta back in time and away from his shapeshifting gods.

But did Enterprise really set that high a bar for character complexity?

I thknk with them only having started production 3 weeks ago, there's a strong possibility he just hasn't been needed on set yet.

Oh, I’m sure it’s something like that, since he was announced as part of the show way back. At the same time, it seemed odd that they wouldn’t show or even mention a fan favorite actor and character who brings his own loyal viewers with him from other projects.

Does a voice-only actor ever need to be on set? Seems like he could put his work in after everything is shot.

If they follow what they did on Rogue One , he’ll be on set for mocap, as well.

Maybe not, but even compared to other Trek series he stands out to me. I struggle to think of a comparable character in any of the other shows.

Star Trek characters tend to follow certain archetypes and stick with them. Shran is harder to define.

Has anyone heard any news or speculation about the Cara Dune character being in the Rangers show?
