Now that's a step up in quality. And the return of an unexpected favourite character.

Episode 3 spoilers in its own thread, please.

Why? Episode 1 and 2 were both discussed in this thread, which is clearly tagged for spoilers.

I guess Death Watch is not the only way.

Where are people getting Death Watch from? They were a terrorist faction based on Mandalore's moon. I know they were the faction that got screen time in the Clone Wars but did I miss something tying them to the Mandalorian?

The Mandalorians who saved young Din were Death Watch. In the long flashback scene in the final episode if season 1, you can see the DW symbols on their armor.

So, Din was taken in by DW and grew up immersed in their culture.

I missed the Death Watch symbols. But from this episode it seems like maybe the symbols might be Watch symbols rather than Death Watch. No?

The man Mandalorian says something like "he's with the Watch" or something like that. (I've only watched it once so far. I'll watch it again after work and probably once or twice more before next Friday.) He's probably just shortening Death Watch to the Watch.

Another speculatory clue from first season is the Armorer's helmet. The spikey bits on top are in emulation of Maul's horns.

I love how he's facing three Mandalorians who just saved him and baby notYoda and he's like, "gimme that armor."

That doesn't tally with her lack of knowledge of the jedi. Maul's leadership of Mandalore was very clear about who his enemies were.

I thought he said "He's one of the Children of the Watch"

I'm fairly sure all will become clear. Bo Katan never had a problem removing her helmet and she was Death Watch ditto Saxon.

Bo Katan was Death Watch, and the other two were likely born to members of Death Watch.

"Children of the Watch" may be a splinter group of a splinter group, or else something else entirely that uses the same word.

The Armorer's helmet wasn't the Maul variety. If it was, it'd look more like a Zabrak rather than just being a line across the top.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!

That's all.

This is the way. :D

Excellent episode, and far better than the last one. I was quite relieved that Baby Yoda didn't eat their offspring.

Yes, as stated earlier, I am somewhat disappointed that they brought back Bo Katan, even though I love the character. I need to know more before I issue a verdict, but I'm enjoying her presence so far. I just need the backstory. I needs alll the informationz.
I would have preferred it if it was an all-new character, but we'll have to see how it goes. Bo's son/daughter would have been interesting, but isn't an option because Rebels happened between CW and now so they can't as easily insert something like that.

As soon as I heard "no more than a squad" I was like "a whole platoon of elite Imperial shocktroops, fanatically loyal to Moff Gideon and on a mission to trap the Mandos."
I wasn't far off. Awesome sequence though. It was nice to see Mando's allies actually pulling their weight for once.

I was very happy to see the Gozanti, and the Star Wars take on a cyanide pill was quite interesting.

It was also interesting to see a non-Mon Cal water world populated by Quarren and Mon Calamari. I wonder what the story is there. Again, I neeedzzz all the informashunzz.

And of course, the helmet thing. As my friend pointed out (not sure how it didn't occur to me or anyone else here), the timeline is screwy for it to have been something that changed after the Empire "shattered" Mandalore because Din was 13 well before Rebels. Looking forwards to learning more details about "Children of the Watch." It could be that there is some significance to the word "Watch" and so Death Watch and the Children of the Watch are both branches of the same tree.

Excellent episode, can't wait to see more.

I have spoken.

I tend to geek out over new vehicles and gadgets, so:

  • Loved seeing the Gozanti live action!
  • Were the blasters in the crates E22's? Something completely new?
  • Was the walker crane that picked up the Razorcrest scavenger work from an AT-AT or something original? I didn't get a good enough look. If original, I'm calling it an AT-CP for now - All Terrain Crane Platform. 😁

Need to rewatch and pause.

2. Yes, pretty sure they are.

3. I don't think so. The structure of the body was so radically different, and a walker crane is such an obvious thing to have that I am pretty certain it's something entirely new.

Karma works fast in the Star Wars universe: baby Yoda gets eaten himself.

I'm really curious who mystery lady in the cloak is.

Nevermind, it's just Mandalorian #3.

I'm... not sure what happened here. I'm going to blame it on misfiring neurons due to me not being 100% awake yet.

It's probably just a Mon Cal colony.

Probably, but my questions are largely as regards when and the political reasons behind it. For example, were they fleeing the Empire? Was it a group of Mon Cals and Quarren who were fed up with the inter-species squabbles on Mon Cal/Dac? Etc.

I'm so glad we got the zealot thing out in the open. That the helmet thing was a weird old fashioned thang.

And I love his pragmatism in dealing with them. How he accepts it all and moves on.

And you know... "You changed the deal..."

Bo Katan was just awesome.

And Tanoooohohohohohohohooooo!

Can't wait till next week....

Considering that it seems to be a well established world, it's likely been around since long before the Clone Wars.

Colonies tend to have just one story: this place has nice stuff nobody (or at least nobody we consider people) is using, let's take it. Could be a former penal colony: Space-Australia.

Probably so, yes. But considering the inter-species conflicts between the Mon Cal and Quarren, it was interesting to see both together, and made me wonder if there was something more to it. I would have expected to see one species or the other, but not both.

Considering that we didn't see much Mon Cal/Quarren interaction, I'm not willing to take it as a given that they get along swimmingly, pun not intended.

And on the other side, this whole Mon Cal/Quarren animosity sounds to me like something that tends to get exagerrated whenever they pop in stories. It's not as if they live in a permanent state of civil war on the homeworld.

But they are both present, which means that the planet was likely colonized by a mixed group, rather than one species or the other.

Once on another planet, divorced from the political conflicts of Mon Calamari/Dac, I imagine that most of the resentment would die down if the world is truly independent. Much of the conflict had to do with the political environment of the world, and once away from it long enough they don't have anything to reopen wounds.

Now, there is also the possibility that the rift is passed down through the generations with no one really knowing why things are the way they are, just that the other is bad, but I find the first situation more likely as I believe it was political more than racial.

Exaggerated, because the story is generally about someone flaring up the resentments in a quest for their own ends, or resentments flaring up in the absence of someone tamping them down.

Sure, there are lots of major puzzle pieces missing.

The AT-crane thingy was first seen in Solo. I was thrilled to see it here too.

Ah man! The whole Mandalorian thing is so cool! Zealouts, orthodoxy --- this is the way! AHAHAHAHAAHA!

The bigger clue that Mando's tribe were Deathwatch is that the big guy with the minigun was called Paz Viszla.
