Found some time to finish off another ARC, just one to go! Also got my BX's primed and ready to go.

This is beautiful, you truly have mastered the clean crisp aesthetic and I am immensely jealous!

Cheers! It's all just putting the hours in and refining technique.

Below is one of my first Imperial Assault stormtroopers from 2016, the tediousness of hours of layering white on these guys and not being overly thrilled with the finish made me seek out a better way! 😁

Untitled-1.jpg

These look incredible! How did you do the white for these ones?

My recipe has remained the same since my first lot of clones, basically, I stopped layering white (I was never happy with results and it takes too long), and just use primer for my white base...

Recipe: Decent smooth white primer, add all details, blacks areas, weapons, colours etc.

Wash with 50/50 nuln oil / lahmian medium (secret ingredient).

It dries brighter than regular nuln oil, and speeds things up (just make sure to soak up any pooling to prevent tidemarks when dry).

First/tester BX droid done.

Almost went with GW Retributor Armour for the accents, but after laying down a coat, the metallic looked way too "bling".

Went with Balor Brown in the end, thought it gave a much more subtle look.

The BX's are done!

First clone AT-RT is up next.

How much time do you usually spend on each mini?

The ARCs were around 6-8. The BXs 4-6. Painted them one at a time to avoid batch painting fatigue

First Clone AT-RT done.

After seeing the spare rider in the Rep AT-RT box, I picked up a cheap Rebel version to make a second. Don't like the spare P1 ARF helmet, so I thought I'd use the spare pilot / engineer helmet from my Saber Tank spares.

Figured I'd build the simple one first to get used to the model before building the multi part clone version.

Quick break from clones to paint up my Star Corps General from Dark Fire Designs.

Gave her a yellow saber (instead of her canon blue) as I thought it would contrast well, plus the fact that the last 2 sabers I painted were also blue! So I wanted to try a new colour.

Some of the cleanest, most crisp miniatures paint jobs I’ve seen. Period. Superb job.

Bit of WIP on my droid STAPs...

You sir, are far and above one of the best artists out there. I 'copied with pride' your P2 Z6 backpack scheme (adapted for my blue clone army theme). Thanks for sharing and being so open with your recipes and paint schemes.

I think your best work so far, however, are your BX Commandos. I must know your scheme, especially the grey base armor.

Thanks in advance for sharing. - Andrew

Thanks man, much appreciated. 🤘 😁 🤘

ok, BXs: (I thought I had put it up, but that was on facebook). Really simple, for speed I make primer do most of the work (like my clones)...

- Grey primer (I used Humbrol Sea Grey (no.27) spray, but GW Mechanicus Grey spray would prob work just as well, its nearly identical). But Humbrol has a much nicer finish.
- Accents in GW Balor Brown, weapons etc
- Mechanicus Grey for touch ups / fixing mistakes
- All-over wash of pure nuln oil.
(optional: light layered drybrush of mechanics grey to cover any problem tidemarks, rough wash dry areas).
- Grey highlights in GW Dawnstone.
- Balor highlights in Balor+GW Screaming skull (at about 2:1)

And do you, or do you not seal the deal with varnish on top of your work? Otherwise, what would you say to be the key to your breathtaking matte finish?
