[UPDATE 15/12/19] Heroes On Both Sides - An unofficial Clone Wars supplement feat. 300+ NPCs, new playable species and more!

By Kualan, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Just to add to the more Separatist aligned species, if you have time, how would you stat (with abilities) the Faust, Phindians, and Kerkoidens? There seems to be little info on the former two but the Kerkoidens run the Retail Caucus which is a similar (if smaller) operation as other CIS corporate organizations. Also, the only other Faust other than Vindi is also a doctor, indicating a species wide interest in bio sciences, if that helps.

I realize these won't make the book, just interested in your ideas.

All three were on my list of potentials when I was drawing up a short list for the player species, but to be honest it was the lack of detail on the species that led me to pass them over. For Faust and Kerkoidens in particular, we only have one significant example of their species to draw from so can't extrapolate what is typical of the species and what is unique to that individual.

Phindians at least have a little more background to them - my first thought would be to give them 3 in Brawn, 1 in Presence, 2 in everything else. Would need to think a little more on potential starting XP, abilities/talents.

As an aside, with the latest season of the clone wars it might be worth revisiting some adversaries and adding some new ones, such as Echo, the Martez sisters etc.

Just a suggestion!

Something I'm going to consider, for sure. Waiting until the season is over before deciding on a list though.

Thank you for all the work you've done so far.

Inspired by @Nytwyng 's work in his Planets thread, I'm starting work on a few pages of my own to add to the book:

That's awesome! Again, thank you for the hard work you do.

Happy to do it (and it gives something to occupy lockdown time with...)

I'm looking to have about 24 planets added to the book in the next update - 18 pages done as of this post, should have the final 6 finished today.

These will include some worlds that appear in official books (e.g. Ryloth, Alderaan) but will have their details updated to reflect the Clone Wars time period. The major exclusions will be the planets that already feature in the two official CW-era books: Coruscant, Naboo, Tatooine, Felucia, Kamino, Kashyyyk, Mandalore, Dathomir, Utapau, Geonosis. These will not be included in the HoBS update.

The full list looks like it will be:

Alderaan, Anaxes, Cato Neimoidia, Christophsis, Florrum, Lola Sayu, Lotho Minor, Malastare, Mon Cala, Moraband, Mustafar, Mygeeto, Oba Diah, Onderon, Orto Plutonia & Pantora, Quarzite, Raxus, Ryloth, Saleucami, Scipio, Serenno, Skako Minor, Umbara, Zygerria.

I can't think of any other planets that might need separate representation for the Clone Wars era, but anyone can feel free to make suggestions.

The Mortis Monolith, it's one place that the book doesn't mention at all. In fact I'm surprised you didn't stat up the Mortis trio.

Iego was pretty interesting I feel with the field that you couldn't leave.

Nal Hutta, while it was covered in the main books, would be interesting to have a perspective on it with the context of the Clone Wars.

Raxus, the home of the separatist parliament?

It's also an out of left field suggestion, but Bracca that was seen in Fallen Order? It was apparently a campaign site during the Clone Wars and after that became a scrapper planet. It's closer to the Clone Wars than the GCW that I'd personally feel it was worth a mention.

Those are just my ideas, end of the idea it is your baby and project. 🙂

Mortis was actually on my original list, but I removed it for a number of practical reasons - namely it seemed pointless having most of the statistical information being either "Unknown" or "None", and also I couldn't find any decent high-resolution art of the monolith.

Iego might be a possibility. I will see if I can get enough information on it to fill out a page.

Nal Hutta can go on the list, there's definitely enough CW-specific information about the Hutts to fill that out (and it seems fitting since the Black Sun and the Pykes get their respective HQ worlds in the book).

Raxus is on my list already! It was in my original post, guessing you just overlooked it (easily done).

I don't think we know enough about a pre-Fallen Order Bracca to be able to include that one, I think.

Okay I finished the list for now (still considering whether to add Iego).

Since the next official HoBS update won't be until after Season 7 has finished, you can have a browse/proof-read through all 25 planet pages here:

Let me know if you think anything needs changing!

Well...they're certainly boneriffic.

Since I've decided to incorporate the upcoming Season 7 NPCs (the Martez Sisters, the Skako Minor droids and natives, etc) directly into the existing chapters rather than doing a separate "Season 7" chapter, it means I've resigned myself to the long, tedious task of manually updating all the page numbers and even/odd backgrounds in the existing 200+ pages (another reason to use InDesign in the future instead of Photoshop!).

But on the plus side, since I've already resigned myself to that, it gives me the opportunity to go back and update the existing sections too. For example, I was never particularly happy with the ARC trooper / commando page so I've split them up into two much better-looking pages.

Excuse me if that's been asked before, but is it possible to make the PDF text-based instead of all images? That way the file could be searched.

To the best of my knowledge (and via a quick Google search) I can't export a text-based PDF from Photoshop.

I will look into adding chapters/bookmarks to the next release though.

You can with Acrobat pro but it’s not 100% accurate.

You can export a text pdf if you don’t rasterize the text in the photoshop file.

Unfortunately the real solution for vector based PDFs is to use Photoshop for the graphics and Indesign for the layout (which are the programs FFG uses).

I use indesign. It is easy and pretty intuitive.

Hmm, well apparently they are cautious by nature and even ones with strong causes rarely risk their life for them. As well, they are known for chatting for the sake of it and dancing around core issues with sarcasm and segues. Might factor into abilities/talents.

Hi folks, hope this finds you safe and well.

I was putting together some tokens to use if I manage to run an online game during quarantine, then figured other folks might get use out of it too. So here you go! These should be ideal for formats such as Roll20 and other similar platforms.

This is the first of several Clone Wars-era token packs I intend to make available over the next week or so. They are based on NPC profiles available in "Rise of the Separatists", "Collapse of the Republic" and my "Heroes On Both Sides" fan sourcebook. It includes 220 tokens in all from the Jedi, Republic and Separatist factions.

The colour scheme of the borders are RED for Republic/Jedi and BLUE for Separatists, with the bold colours being the Nemesis-level characters and the more pale colours being the Minions/Rivals.

Future packs will feature the Scum & Villainy and Citizens of the Galaxy NPC profiles. I don't claim any credit for the art, I just did the tedious part of tracking it all down and putting it into token format.

Hope you enjoy, and happy gaming!

Thanks for the extra info! I might see if I can squeeze them in.

Is it possible to have the templates for the tokens so we can create custom tokens that match those that are part of the pack?

Just to add a little more context, other species tend to find these traits off putting, despite Phindians also having strong familial bonds and friendships.

If I find any more good info on Clone Wars species I'll let you know. Belugans are ones that may work.

Outstanding work!

About the Jedi temple guard talents, what if we change bodyguard talents for "resist disarm" and "armor master"?
