[UPDATE 15/12/19] Heroes On Both Sides - An unofficial Clone Wars supplement feat. 300+ NPCs, new playable species and more!

By Kualan, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Yeah, I'd suggest adding adding Skako Minor and some Skakoan/Poletec NPCs to the mix, since it'll be appearing in the final season of TCW. Would be interesting to have stats for the Skakoan Combat Engineers/Commandos, hovering octuptarra magna tri-droids, and maybe the Poletec's flying mounts.

I think there's potential for an ostensibly neutral world (that's totally Separatist-leaning) where one of the planet's native species oppresses the other, but the Jedi can't legally intervene without violating their neutrality. Plus, in Legends, the Skakoans have a weird religion of their own that would be fun to delve into.

FWI, Skako Minor and Legends Skako are the same thing.

Kualan.. I doff my hat to ay Hoffiser and a Jentlebum 😉

Worth noting, from the Collapse of Republic deep dive on the Order 66 podcast. The Nightsister and Nightbrother enchanted blade and enchanted spear should be damage 5 rather than 3. They didn't take into account the brawn of the NPC. This also could impact your other Dathomir characters.

Thanks for the head's up, I will update accordingly.

Wow! That was awesome. Appreciate all your hard work. You covered so much and it is great. I especially appreciate your suggestions on where the characters could be encountered and how to work them in. Any chance you'd ever consider a small supplement to this with characters from the Republic Commando game and novels? The 2 squads and some supporting characters like Skirta.

Never say never, but I admit I'm not very familiar with the Republic Commando series outside the basic game (and I covered the Deltas through the Clone Commando's "Squad Role" special ability).

Actually, that's a good point. Really that covers delta or omega.

Squad Role and a unique name and it really is all I'd need. Thanks!

Unrelated.. I apologize if it's been touched on somewhere and I missed it. Do you use InDesign to put the pages together? Photoshop for the cards? I have a photoshop template for the cards but for more complicated characters its to much info squeezing into a small space for my eyes.

I would really like to be able to put together a page that looks pretty decent where i can list some bio info, a picture and stats with explanations of abilities so i don't always have to look them up to see what they do. I'm pulling more and more material from the WEG stuff for my players. I'm planning on getting my party to some of the locations In Platt's Smuggling Guide and would like to have some conversions ready on characters.

This is awesome! Thanks for all the hard work.

Sorry for the late reply, I could have sworn I already had posted. To answer your question, I use Photoshop for everything - mainly because I've been familiar with it for many years whereas InDesign would be a whole new program to me. I'm led to believe InDesign is the superior software for this sort of thing however.

Fair warning on the cards - they are very outdated now, and many (if not most) have been changed during the stats' full write-ups for Heroes On Both Sides. I intend to go through them and update everything at some point, but given the scale I may start over using a tweaked template to better accommodate larger text and other improvements (such as outlined dice symbols).

It is superior for what you want to do. Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign were built to work together. Photoshop is primarily for photo and image manipulation. Illustrator is for vector-graphic drawing and logo design. InDesign is for page layout, typesetting, and prepress, bringing all of the art done in the other programs together with text to create posters, books, magazine spreads, etc.

Noticed an error in the statblock for the Separatist Commander: You listed Cunning as 4 and Deception as 2, but the dice pool for Deception is listed as YYG.

Thank you - this will be fixed.

Minor update on things:

A few weeks ago I had an actual physical copy of this book printed for my own private collection. With the exception of one very silly oversight on my part that meant all the odd and even numbered pages were on the wrong side of the book (d'oh!) I was generally happy with how it turned out. This was done with a separate file to the one available to download (which has not been adjusted for physical printing), and I'm going to do some more tweaks to the dimensions at some point, but will then make that available to those who want it for their own personal use.

Before that though, I need to complete the final bonus update. This is the list of bonus NPCs I plan to include - either alternatives to characters available in the main sections of the supplement or brand new stats for characters who are prequel-era but not quite Clone Wars:

Anakin Skywalker (Child)
Barriss Offee (Dark Side)
Clone Trooper (Rival) - intended to be used for regular troopers who are a little more plot-significant; e.g. Waxer, Boil, etc.
Jango Fett
Qui-Gon Jinn
Obi-Wan Kenobi (Padawan)
Rune Haako
Savage Opress (Nightbrother)
Sebulba
Shmi Skywalker
Watto
Zam Wesell

Any suggestions for additions or tweaks before I move forward?

Jedi council as of phantom menace? Naboo soldier? Panaka? Ric Olie? Naboo pilot? Generic pod racer pilot?

Maybe set piece locations like Naboo hanger, palace corridor, naboo throne room?

Naboo Royal Captain, Naboo Guard and Naboo Pilot stats are already in the Naboo section of the People & Planets section. I did consider doing individual stats for Panaka and/or Typho but decided there wasn't really enough to distinguish them that couldn't be combined into a single generic block.

Perhaps a generic podracer pilot though - would go well since we'll be having Kid Anakin and Sebulba.

It also opens up the possibility for doing actual podracers (at least ones not featured in Endless Vigil) should vehicles be added to the book.

I forgot there's actually already a generic podracer pilot in Allies & Adversaries!

Maybe do a different level one. Like nemesis instead of rival (i havent look to see what is in allies) you could do the same with any adversaries that exist i N other books.

I'm thinking of doing that with my own products, as well, and I was hoping to maybe talk to you offline about what all I need to prepare to get the cover/binding file ready and what pitfalls I can avoid.

For the Clone Commando, you have the sniper rifle configuration of the DC-17 as using Gunnery, but sniper rifles use Heavy, don't they?

Also, shouldn't Yoda have Protect as a Force Power since he absorbs Dooku's lightning in Attack of the Clones?

The website I used for physical printing was Lulu.com. In terms of preparing files you can find all the exact dimensions you need in their tutorials/guides, and they also give you a template you can use for your covers. Rule of thumb seems to be to make your pages about 1/4 inch wider/taller than the official dimensions to ensure you have the right "bleed" area to avoid white or black marks on the edges of the pages.

Thank you for the catch on the Clone Commando - I will correct that.

As for Yoda, he is based on his Allies & Adversaries stats where he does not have Protect but I'm inclined to agree with you that he should have it - if I can find a way to carve out room for it on his page 😧

How rude of me to forget someone from the bonus NPC list...

Valorum is already in the Coruscant section. I will certainly consider Sifo Dyas and Good!Dooku though.

Here we go!

Anakin: You list his Agility as 2 and his Piloting (Planetary) as 4, but you give him YYYY.
Barriss Offee: Should she have a Cool rating?
(Normal) Savage Oppress: Doesn't he seem a little bit overstatted? I was expecting little more than a buffed Nightbrother, but that seems like quite a lot. He also wasn't force sensitive until he was... "modified" by the nightsisters (unless I'm mistaken?), so I don't think he should have a Force Rating or force powers. You also gave him a Cool rating, something the base statblock was lacking.

Other than that, looks great! Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback!

Check Anakin's special ability for the explanation behind the YYYY.

I'm not opposed to giving Barriss a Cool rating - what is your reasoning for picking that stat out, may I ask?

Savage proved himself to be fairly capable in the "trials" Ventress ran on Dathomir, holding his own against a very talented assassin. I would say his variant profile reflects that, whilst still clearly being outclassed when you compare it to statblocks like Ventress or his base version.

Unless I'm mistaken, I believe it is implied that he has a latent Force Sensitivity - like with the child Anakin profile, the intention is that his basic powers (Enhance and Sense) would be played as if they are instinctive reactions rather than conscious uses of the Force. The addition of a Cool rating is intentional, as I wanted him to have some stats that he would "lose" as the price for his increased strength and deadliness upon "upgrading" to the base profile.

EDIT: Just caught a mistake I left in by accident. Plagueis should have Force Rating 6, not Force Rating 8.
