THE MANDALORIAN

By Imperial Advisor Arem Heshvaun, in X-Wing Off-Topic

It was not once they hit the child...but twice.

They have chosen death.

It was awesome until they tried to shoot the can... it was very much a *groan* moment to me. The gag is pretty worn out. What would have been much funnier is if he nails it on the first shot and say "Why do Stormtroopers make it look so hard?" Of course your average person would be like but aren't they Stormtroopers... Anyway I liked the scene but I didn't think the "we can't shoot a can 10 feet from us" bit landed.

Eh.... but I want to see it though. That's a major problem with Star Wars in general. The Empire does all this fighting and winning off screen most of the time. Maybe it took 200 Stormtroopers to kill the 30 or so Mandalorians, but I still want to see the Empire in action from time to time actually being big, bad, and scary. Probably my biggest gripe with the finale is the plot armor being incredibly thick, thicker than previously and IG-11 being too much of an "I-win" button. Almost makes it a plot hole for the entire franchise. If they can make droids this powerful and efficient at ground combat then why waste time training a platoon of troopers? Surely one droid is cheaper than a whole platoon to train and outfit. I am kind of glad he exploded, even if he was cool to watch on screen.

It was an okay episode but I did find it way too predictable. Make Death Troopers Great Again.

I think we all have a few tropes we love and a few tropes we despise that can immediately elevate or sink a scene or story.

One of the few tropes I hate is the mook. The Stormtrooper that can’t aim. And I don’t get why these directors and writers keep doing it either, because people love tough villains more then they do wimpy ones.

The Empire Strikes Back has an AT-AT do a trick shot on a snowspeeder, along with many other beats where villains win, and that film is considered by far the best in the franchise.

A New Hope has Ties cleaning the floor with Rebel Pilots and is also considered one of the best films.

Meanwhile Return of the Jedi has Stormtroopers getting beaten by teddy bears and is the most devisive film of the originals.

A hero is defined by their villains, so pushovers don’t make heroes look badass.

It’s confirmed that these two geniuses are played by Jason Sudeikis and Adam Pally.

The Mandalorian Crew Challenge Coin

Gosh, I sure do have a lot of questions now. Biggest one being around Moff Gideon, how he got THAT, how he avoided execution for war crimes, what he did to the last person who had THAT, the actual status of Mandalore now, whether Gideon is related to Mandalore/Mandalorians in a more direct way.

He is a (former?) Imperial Security Bureau member, which means he has access to a nearly unmatched amount of collected data. He probably made full use of information he had gathered in the chaos after the events of debacle/tragedy at Endor.*

Or he may very well have done this prior, which catapulted him to his position. I really wish we were given the Sector he was Moff, that would give us more to go on.

Here’s one more question @CaptainJaguarShark , is Gideon the de facto leader of Death Watch now?

*I like this character back story a lot. In the real world, Vladimir Putin was a Foriegn Intelligence Officer for the KGB and is now the leader of the Soviet State. And some would argue the de facto leader of a certain other world power.

There was an IG Series Droid on a speeder bike in concept art work for Shadows of Empire in 1995/1996.

I think it was implied that he operated in the Mandalor sector, thus how he knew Din Djarin's name. He likely helped with the purge of Mandalorians.

Based on how they reacted to Maul getting it, I don't think many will consider him the leader.

That is something that bugs me too. Rogue One troopers get surprised and messed about but once they get their act together it's only a matter of time and acceptable losses before the rebels go down. St the start of episode IV you see them clearly outclass the Tantive's crew despite the latter's defensive position.

And

I’m pretty sure he is not kidding.

I guess it was good to see The Mandalorian without his helmet.

It’s a pity we won’t get to see the Armourer take hers off.
